Hair contest winners

So i may be picky but i didnt like majority of the hairstyles. I wanted longer hairs and some good hair without bangs. (Dont like bangs on my char)

However the template is male, does anyone know if all the hairs will be unisex?? If so then im super happy:))

Really not feeling all the short Kpop boy hairstyles but the longer ones are great and it's good that we are getting more actual curly/wavy styles in place of "straight hair with random braids"

I adore the majority of the hairstyles. For the most part, I think they did a good job of choosing ones that are different than what we already have in game.
I love the focus on wavy hairstyles, the amount of intricate up-dos, and I'm very surprised and happy there is 3 Black hairstyles. I love the one that is pulled up cuz it reminds me of Medarda from Arcane. I also enjoy that a good chunk of the short hairstyles aren't designed with the intent to be unisex. They may be a little too K-pop for some, but they are a distinctly male style.

As for long hair - they clearly have no intent to make long hairstyles because of clip city. This is definitely them doubling down and silently saying "no".

From looking at Western submissions, it seems that very few people followed the submission rules with the template. It's kinda crappy that they allowed non-template submissions last time and not this time, but they wrote it in the rules so... *shrug*.

Our rules page was worded really confusing, it said we needed to show 3 angles of the hair but SE only provided the two 3/4 templates. People drew their own because when you say you "need 3 angles" it usually means front, back, and profile not 3/4 + 3/4 ^^;

The rest are honestly far and away better than the stuff we have now, imo.

It's in CBU3's hands at this point. The community has literally handed them free concept art during a content drought where they're lucky to even have subscribers. It's wild to me that instead of just implementing the winners as soon as possible, they're gonna pull this "Well ackshually we might not implement all the winners and uhm ackshually we might not implement any lmao and uhhh btw we have 0 timeline for when we'll implement anything at all, if we even do" like are you for real lmao. I don't expect this stuff tomorrow obviously, but I remember getting a gold saucer hair in the game and people were like "oh yeah that's from the hair contest two years ago" and if that's the timeline then I guess we'd better buckle up and pray they don't make us wait that long just for them to implement the worst of the winners in a way that's scaled badly for every race but hyur or something.

I hope someone looked at my crude ponytail submission because hooooly moly I want one with the lyse "tail" length but with actual good bangs that doesn't look like trash on my race

Admittedly, I've avoided looking at entries, because I know no matter what, I'm probably going to be disappointed in whichever one(s) they decide to implement. It just seems to be the pattern now. The one I like probably won't get added, the added one will come 1-2 years late, get locked behind some piece of heavily time-gated content, have weird scaling with on femRoes and make my head look tiny, have underwhelming highlight patterns, get murdered by hats, have some undyeable accessory, etc., etc....

I remember years ago reading/hearing Yoshi P somewhere saying they eventually wanted to give every race access to every other race-exclusive hair style, and I'm still miffed, not only because it never happened, but because I know it isn't going to. Outside of doing the m-word, there will just be hairstyles I'll never get to use. I've seen some of the male Viera hair styles on non-Viera and they just look so good...

It's similar but not a copy. Though Artoria's hairstyle does vary slightly depending on the specific manga/anima/game she appears in.

They also ignored the sentence that says "if it does not fit on the template...". Not saying that the wording was stellar (and was probably not great for ESL), but it was clear enough that some Western folks followed it.

Every single hairstyle added since the 6.0 patch has worked on Viera immediately. They said they fixed the problem that was preventing them from adding new styles to Viera when they made male Viera and there's no reason to think this was a lie. It's been 2 years since a new hairstyle didn't function on Viera from the get-go.

They REALLY love this K-pop idol style, don't they? They look distinct here because the artwork itself does... but it's almost the same cut, I fear they'll look very similar ingame.

But regardless of those, overall I think I liked this contest more than the previous one, because here we can see a much wider array of shapes, styles and hair textures! I hope some of the curled/wavy ones are the first in the line because we really lack that kind of thing.

Big important thing to know is that at present CBU3 has made no promises that any of these will be implemented in the actual game. As it says at the bottom of the Lodestone post:

Guess still the bias from so many existing styles not added to the races, but you make a fair point here. I can't think of any new styles added I couldn't immediately use.

I assume that's just some extra legalese to cover in case they happen to not use them. It also says they can use runners up that didn't win, which they did a lot last time. Pretty much every hairstyle they've added since 2015 was a winner or runner up from that contest.

If you're going to have a contest with winners then choose the 4 that you WANT to put in the game and do it. Have a list of honorable mentions after the four. At least then we can look forward to specific hairstyles. As it is, it's just "Hey, look at the cool art our Japanese players made" ,which is just straight up insulting.

No need to go full conspiracy. Its just legalese to protect them in case any don't get added. The last contest saw every winner and even some runners-up get added.

I'm looking at places like reddit, and I'm seeing a lot of people who unsurprisingly didn't follow the guideline rules for the contest entries. Tsumdere summed-it up well enough:

So this time I'm not surprised that majority of the winning entries are from Japanese players.

What's more likely:

A) 90% of non-Japanese players (in the ENTIRE WORLD) just happen to not follow the directions and miraculously 80% the winners were Japanese because of this

Or

B) The devs are biased towards Japanese player's ideas/culture and consciously or sub-consciously picked Japanese winners.

Unless Japanese players make up 80% of the playerbase, then no, it's not cool, and it is insulting, and not conspiratorial.

Also, most of the winning styles are just so..safe.

You probably just answered yourself with your impromptu choice C). Time and time again, these devs have demonstrated that they aren't going to stray from their comfort zone, in all things gameplay and content. Easy-to-incorporate, less-complex things to fit under a hat is going to appeal to them more.


...And I dunno about 90%, but just skimming down people sharing their entries on reddit; a lot actually did just happen to not follow directions, which is a shame, because some of them probably would have ended up as winners/runners-up.

Based on the number of publicly posted losing entries, yes, the majority of western entries that lost did not use the required template.



No other data exists. Also, I like how you ignored the "all winning entries used the template" part. Its not like JP entries who didn't use it won. We also have no data on JP entries who didn't win because they didn't use the template, because they don't use reddit like the western audience does.

I'll go a step forward and say they increased the number of winners from 30 to 40 only because they had to scavange for a handful of non-JP players that followed the guidelines so not all winners are JP. That said, it still feels ...idk, disingenuous? to essentially disqualify two whole regions for their own bad wording.

The hairstyles are really nice ! Love the fact that there aren't too many "long hair with AGAIN a little cute bow in it". I love shorter hair.

The only thing that bugs me a little is the fact that I enjoy it cause I play a female. For male, the choice seems to be a little more problematic : all the winners scream "K-pop" or "girly".

There are some promising options in there. Including some nice updos, which the game is sorely lacking right now. I hope they get implemented.

Entrants must create the image(s) using digital graphics software or by capturing a photo of the artwork using the template provided. (Required)

So yeah. I retract my earlier statement about poor wording. People just flat out did not read or follow instructions.

I hope they make a lot of these all at once like they have done in the past. It would be really nice to have a ton of new hairstyles to choose from going into DT. I know it's not likely considering the timeframe, but a girl can dream.

I recall wanting to do a Hrothgar as a second entry and the only reason I ended up using the template was because I drew and submitted only one mere minutes before the deadline lol. Is there a chance it was edited at some point or am I just wildly misremembering ._."

The template was required but it also said you needed three angles (front, back and side) and the template only provided front and back 3/4 views, so that confused a lot of people.
