So this is just a suggestion for a future FF game set in the same universe as the mmo but in this story it follows the adventures of Ardbert the Wol of the first that leads up to the events in the main story. I think a story like this would be wonderful because we already have some idea as to what is going to happen but to be able to explore the world of the first before the flood of light I think would be wonderful. On a side note a game set in the first far into the future as the world slowly recovers from the flood would be great as well. Maybe we as the MC could be one of Ryne's descendants.
Either way I think a separate game set in the same universe but in one of the reflections would be a wonderful idea and add to the already wonderful world that is ffxiv.

We do already know most of the events prior to The First becoming flooded though, but some of it will be a spoiler if you didn't do all the role quests or the Eden quests.
One of the chosen on the 13th (the contramemoria) was manipulated by the Ascians that to save the 13th, they could do as they asked in the 1st. They brought Ardbert and gang together and traveled with them so to influence them to turn the balance of the world light. When that was finally done and there was nobody to defeat, she turned on them and became The Shadowkeeper, which would lead to the flood of Light. Of course, that was never truly intended to save the 13th like she probably thought and now she regrets it.
We also play as them prior to the flood in each of the role quests.
If they did this it would most likely be in further flashback quests where we play as them. -

I would prefer XVII being an MMO, over XIV anything.
Trying to finally finish XIV's story, but at the same time....want SE to forget about the terrible trio (XIV, XV, and XVI). These games were part of SE when the company was perhaps at its' worst finacally.......SE revenue took a sharp dip around 2010 when XIV failed.....They never recovered imo....
XI had to bail them out with Seekers, which is an underrrated expansion by the XI community because it was their most profitably game, and Seekers helped bring their revenue back up in 2013.
XV may have been the least problematic out of the 3, but we all know about XVI by now......It was the straw which finally brought XIV to Xbox.
FF needs a new era imo, not a XIV-2.....XVI cameos, etc.......Milk as much as ya can from XIV, then move on.....
XIV isn't, and will not be fondly remembered. Look at its' faithful even bashing it. Even at its peak, those were WoW players.......lol..... -

You also have to remember that even if past titles didn’t do well, each title is an experiment in a way to test new or different gameplay methods. They've already given us the most meaningful story beats from the travels of Ardbert and Pals through flashbacks, both playable and cutscene. We already know what's going to happen. Personally, I don't think that's a great foundation for a story game to be built upon.
Also, Yoshi-Selch has already called his shot, and by the time 10 years have passed our WoL will definitely have traveled to all of the remaining reflections. -

Yeah the problem with prequels is that you already know the ending. Same reason having a FFX-3 follow Braska's story is a bad idea, we've already seen the interesting parts of that story and anything "new" will have to be shoehorned or retconned in, which can hurt the overall product retroactively.
I would rather a new FF MMO, if there ever was one, to be completely original and not just be a Memberberries Rollercoaster -

I have done all of the side quest and all of the role quests however there is still so much about the first from before the flood that we do not know about. I understand that we all know what is going to happen and we know most of the major events that happened. But to say a prequel would not be worth it or that they will need to retcon a lot of stuff for it is untrue. They can take all that we know already and delve deeper into the events that transpired. And even if a prequel is out of the question they could give us a game set 100 years later or a thousand or something to show us what happened to the first after the events of ffxiv.

They did it with ff7 crisis core so why not. Even if you know the end outcome, the journey can still be super entertaining.
That being said, it would probably make more sense for them to keep FFXIV stories within the MMO. I highly doubt Warcraft (the RTS games) would have been as successful if it did it backwards and started with WOW instead of the RTS games. -

Sounds nice enough, I would favor the setting in the future a la Final Fantasy X, in a post-apocalyptic story far, far away in the future.
I think Square-Enix is afraid to experiment with MMOs, this game (FFXIV) is getting very old and boring and needs a fresh restart, I would insta-jump to the new ship without abandoning this one.
Forgot to mention, they ought to keep Miqo'te and Hyur races at least if not all of them.
