tried asking this in NN only to get attacked and accused of things left and right, nobody gave a really clear cut answer, somebody said yes, somebody said no, somebody said "yea but only if" so im wondering if you guys know for a fact.
They decided to report my account for breaking TOS rule "intentionally leaving a game" just before kicking me from said NN, and im wondering is it actually against TOS to leave a duty thats already started via taking a 30 minute penalty. Im not referring to Disconnecting, just to leaving after you get the item you need, or if you get a dungeon you dont enjoy, or if things arent going well after 20+ minutes.

Exiting the duty is fine: that's what the penalty is for. Disconnecting or just AFKing to fish for a kick to avoid the penalty would be considered an abuse of the system because it lets you avoid the punishment that you should be getting for leaving.

I think the answer is "it depends." The circumstances of when you leave the duty, and why (if a GM can determine that), do matter. However, they do say you can land in hot water if you leave right after entering a duty (ex: if you get a dungeon you don't enjoy). So, yeah. Try not to do that.

I'd say no, there's any number of reasons that someone could elect to leave, including just simply not enjoying the instance you got in roulette, and the penalty is punishment enough. I've had to leave instances without warning because of things that were happening IRL, but someone could very easily take that the wrong way and think that I deserved to be reported. In order for it to be reportable, there'd need to be something in the ToS about leaving an instance or you would have to argue for it being lethargic play, which inscribes intent that you may not even know about of the player leaving.

No it's not against the ToS to leave an instance and take the penalty. That doesn't mean someone won't report you for doing so, but a report does not inherently mean you will get punished beyond the 30min penalty. Assuming nothing was said in chat and you didn't just get gear, I'd say you have little chance of even being contacted by a GM. Unless of course you make a habit of leaving instances.

I think I remember a lodestone post clarifying that prohibited activity leaving was only about disconnecting to get kicked. The penality for using the ingame option to leave is already there to punish leaving in matchmade groups. No further action required.

Game already have implemented penalty for abandoning a duty.
Its only against ToS in match making PvP, coz team can't replace you. -

I can`t seem to find the source of where I saw this. I recall seeing at some point that if you leave dungeons as soon as you enter regularly, that doing too often can lead to actions being taken. but I`ve never heard of this actually being applied.
Dunno if that was just for mentor roulette or for all duties. But I do remember seeing that. -

TOS leaves it vague on purpose, I'm sure if you do it enough and it's blatant enough the GMs would probably do something. But like a lot of things in the TOS, you really have to build up a history and get reported with proof consistently for it to escalate to a ban.
Considering the OP mentions NN, this is probably about mentors instantly leaving Mentor Roulette the minute they get a duty they don't like. Which yeah, if you do that enough you might rack up enough reports and a GM might do something, but it's not a guarantee.
You're probably better off just not signing up for a roulette if you don't want to play something in the list that could pop up. -

If after 20 minutes things are not going well, it might be socially acceptable to quit. Although I think this is highly dependent on how much of an effort you made to teach and correct course. Sitting silent for 20 minutes and then rage quitting because you're not getting your clear is just kind of toxic. Leaving after getting the item you need, that's just a dick move. The only conceivable situation I can think this is okay is if you tell your intentions to the group upfront at the start of the run. Though, in all honesty, if you were willing to run 1/4 or 1/3 of a dungeon/raid minimum, they aren't that long to begin with to just finish out the run for a little extra gold/loot. In fact, regardless of whether the party was informed of the situation, just seems common courtesy to help them finish their run.
The last example was really what triggered my justice muscle and made me want to post here. It amazes me how online culture skews people's sense of social responsibility and normalizes people getting away with all kinds of toxic behavior. -
