Announcement of another limited job filled me with dread

We get to find out on january 7th what section of the playerbase were utter fools to ever want their favorite weird class to actually, say, participate in story (in the dramatic story-driven rpg that happens to be an mmo--who would ever want that, right), or play any up to date content, or *any decent content at all* without a party of similarly skilled, geared, experienced, and (most importantly) *willing* people of the same unfortunate situation?

I wonder what content they'll be arbitrarily banned from (like deep dungeons, eureka, etc), and what aspect of the game has been specifically tuned to render them ineffective (blu has resistance buildup and outright mass immunity for it's supposedly "broken" spells, and a completely vestigial element system), aside from a bare hanful of problematic skills propped up as the reason it's "too powerful" to ever be playable in any real content or capacity (that with the same amount of dev resources could have been tuned properly and allowed to exist with the real classes)

For further feedback/question: must it really, *really* be a limited job?

Is there absolutely no recourse for whatever class is unfortunate enough to be chosen, that the devs haven't willingly chosen to make that way?

After BLU, I was hoping they wouldn't go down that route again, but not only does it sound like BLU is going to be lvl 90 eventually(I wish they just wouldnt touch it anymore honestly), but were getting yet another one. Only decent thing is it'll probably not start out like 50 BLU with learning stuff I guess..? But the ultimate question is just; why.

If the job has to be limited for whatever reason, then don't put it into the game until it's ready to be put in. I guess well see what it is though, but I'm a bit worried myself.

I'd have less of an issue with limited jobs if I could at least use them with dedicated solo content like trusts, duty support, squadrons and the like, even if you had to level cap them first. As it stands I like Blue Mage conceptually but it's more hassle than it's worth, especially when it could easily be retooled to work in normal content.

I'm also preemptively angry because I am fairly certain it's going to be one of the pet jobs I want so bad. It'll be the replacement for summoner except extremely limited.

I desperately, DESPERATELY hope I get to eat those words.

I just about screamed 'NO!' at my screen the second Yoship said puppetmaster to prompt the audience. God what an utter disappointment. I've hated limited jobs since the beginning because he immediately threw any chance of a puppet job under the bus thanks to this absurd logic that it can only ever exist like it did in XI. I love puppetry as a theme and it is almost never represented in gaming. To hear that a job that fits my dream theme could be added, but only with the following limits is heartbreaking:

You can never use it to play any story, even in NG+
You can never use it to do roulettes, even with friends
You can never use it in any relevant, current content
You can never use it in PvP
You can never use it in any evergreen content (deep dungeon, ultimate, exploratory)
You only get an update once every 2 years

Even in the 2 week period where updates happen its still a meme compared to any real job with access to relevant content. We're six months past 6.4 and I still have access to dozens and dozens of PFs open every night for savage (not to mention ex and ultimate). Even the most dedicated niche community can't get close to that level of opportunity for content, to say nothing of the random stuff I could also be doing thanks to duty finder. Not in the least bit excited about this. If anything it just soured the entire keynote for me.

I feel the same way. I love that blu mage has the carnival though. But it does make me sad that it can't do anything else really with the story or players who are not also playing blu. I'd love if they just rebalanced blu, tuned it for cap level, and got rid of the limited job system entirely and then just have the carnival available for all the other classes. Kind of like the mage tower from wow!

I want something that's its own unique system and not this mixed system that BLU has.

Like make the job Morpher (class from earlier games without being too tied down by expectation). It would function like Monstrosity from FFXI where you can morph into different monster types (each monster family has its own level progress such as wavekin, seedkin, etc.).
Then the endgame for it would be centered in Halatali where you have PVE and PVP as monsters.

I kinda wouldn't mind if it was Beastmaster and included a full bestiary to complete. But I don't feel like a whole limited job needs to be made for that.

I have no issue with limited jobs, the concept would work fine if given effort. That being said Blue mage has been horribly neglected (No adjustments to the horrific moon flute meta, clunky tank skills, no roulette or incentive to help lower players learn skills, partying up just being painful to sit through) and it doesn't fill me with confidence for their next attempt.

I don't see puppet master or beastmaster if only because they have nothing to do outside of collect crap, like atleast BLU has a niche for savage content, doing it with AI companions is a recipe for suffering and endless fan backlash. I'm still doubling down on freelancer as a limited solo tank since it would fit into the limited job framework while also giving a different experience to BLU.

Just when I thought they weren't going to add any more limited jobs... When Blue Mage appeared on the slide, for a brief moment, there was hope that they would announce that we would be getting a "normal" version of BLU. The news that followed was the opposite of what I wanted to hear.

The best I can hope for now is that future limited jobs won't be designed to be exclusively limited. I honestly don't have an issue with content like spell collecting, Blue Mage log, and Masked Carnival existing if BLU was provided a way to participate in normal content, even if it must be "toned down" specifically for said normal content. Although it isn't impossible for BLU to get an adjustment like that in the future, the fact that it was never designed with that flexibility in mind means it would take more work than the team has to spare currently. But for future limited jobs, they could create them from the ground up to function as both a normal and limited job. Wishful thinking, I know, but the wish for no more limited jobs has already been crushed.

Well as someone who actually plays Blue mage honestly I'm pretty hyped for this announcement. I mean currently blue mage is the single most fun class in the game. And now I get a second one? Heck yeah man I'm down. Now there's obvious downsides to being limited that flat out suck. Such as being forgotten about for 2+ years at a time or the fact they put way less effort into additions for the class such not getting boss weapons or the fact we can't do ultimates which is just so dumb . And honestly they could make blue limited and non limited by just giving the class a "default" loadout for queueable content and let us freely pick spells in pf. However even so the fact of the matter is blue mage is as fun as it is currently due to being limited not in spite of it. As such I hope the next limited job proves to just as worthwhile. Please give me Puppet master Yoshi P. Its been my most wanted class for XIV.

I hope the new limited job is not something that fits well in normal play if the idea was treated with respect.

By that I mean I could see Onion Knight as a limited job that can use abilities from other jobs and any weapon, as that job has a history of just being wack in general and not that useful, which means very few are going to go "AW MAN" meanwhile you could imagine it being very broken lol... (and still potentially interesting). Magitek Operator (G-Warrior / Xeno-gears) was another I suggested to give example of something that could be interesting yet not trample hopes and dreams people have for normal jobs.

But lets say Beast Master? Is the grand home run that you can capture a wide range of beasts and customize them some? Cause WoW does that, and it's a normal job. Some of Blue Mage's stuff is a bit wack for balance, but honestly most of it could easily fit into normal content given some extra pauses for thought. There is no reason you couldn't have a job learn spells and be normal, there are certainly some reasons why you can't have ultra vibration work though so I wont claim all skills could work (as they are now) lol, but you could definitely have Death do "huge damage, or kill a trash monster at X%" or Bad Breath be like "massive CC to trash or damage taken and given debuff for bosses".

What feels like WoW could make as additional content for a normal job is something FFXIV can't fathom, unfortunately, because it has too much 'character' :/

I think blue mage has improved since launch, and is semi-interesting, but I still wish it was normal and or alternatively I still believe they could have done better if it was going to be 'limited'. So I would say while I'm less afraid, where entire first world* disdain and upset is more of a dull soreness, I am definitely not looking forward to their new limited job announcement as I imagine it is just an opportunity lost due self imposed creative limitations in their normal space.

*First world as in, it's just a game- there are worse things to happen in the world lol, but in terms a gamer with "was I happy at launch?" the answer would have been the most resolute and profound moment of "I am insanely unimpressed with this, and this has actually impacted my confidence of the company". Which again the most extreme negative feeling are mostly gone now, I think they've done some neat things, I can see how some people are having fun, here and there I do too, though I do wish it was better as I feel they still have room to improve it at nearly every step (as a limited job).
