What if the clover in the hint isn't green mage but...

It's just part of the hinted treasure hunt that it looks like the Warrior of light and the scions will be journeying on.

Could be a red herring, and everyone fell for it, even though the green mage is a really cool idea. Colored mages are fun in the series, and that is the least developed one. Though knowing how the fanbase is, there is no not getting peoples hopes up if it turns out to be a red herring.

It's inherently a bit of a red herring (green herring?) because even if it is called green mage it might have nothing to do with any previous installments of green mage. Especially the prediction that it will be heavily debuff/dot oriented is strange because job design has been going away from dots at every corner.

Dots do make sense. I also wonder if this job had been planned a lot longer than people realized, whether it is green mage or not due to plot relevance. A heavy plot relevant job would be refreshing, because it feels like Samurai, and other jobs of past story hype didn't have as much relevance in their expansions until recently. Warrior of light was never as much of a Samurai in the media as much as they made us believe.. I really enjoyed the hints at reaper, and how they eventually played out with Zenos. Would be cool if there are some job hints we will see in part 2. Even if one of the jobs is already revealed, it would be cool to see it in game as a preview like they did with Gosetsu.

Green magic in FF is usually buffs...like protect and shell its the opposite of Oracle/RDM. It would be pointless. I think the three leaf clover represents Luck which points to corsair, as in Dice rolls.

Dots are not a sensible prediction with how the job changes went this expansion. It would be a full turn around in job design. SMN lost the dots completely, BRD had them massively reduced in importance. No other job has gained significant dots outside of BLU which is completely outside of regular job design and does not count for this prediction.

Don't forget about the fact there's a hard limit on Debuffs/Buffs on players and enemies in total (More so noticible in extreme content and ultimates where some people can't use certain buffs on the party because their own personal buffs can 'miss). People are asking SE to change the limitation on it, but..

Absolutely. Although they seemingly increased the buff limit slightly according to some people in the thread dedicated to this issue.

You're thinking of the four leafed clover. Three leaves are the common variety and not considered especially remarkable or lucky.

It could be for a Druid job class that make it another healer class. 3 leaf clover was a sacred plant to Druids.

We already know that the new unseen job is a ranged caster dps, so I don’t imagine it’d be Green Mage. I mean, for one thing, it’d be kinda weird to have a job with ‘Green’ in its name but it’s in the red role section (dps) instead of, well, the green one lol. Plus, ‘Green Mage’ as others have pointed out is a buff/debuff class traditionally in FF, which literally cannot exist in ffxiv under any circumstances (which makes AST seem like a bit of a joke but that’s for another thread lol)

Let alone the fact that Green Mage has historically NEVER been a dot job ever. Not even poison, which is the foundation of DoTs.
It's just wishful thinking that Bio and Miasma will be given to Green Mage.

Pretty much to be honest. Green Mage has really only been in two FF games, and anything else has been Green Magic without the Mage. Plus Green Mage has never been in any mainline title as far as I can see, only side games associated with the main games. Green Mage, as far as FFXIV is concerned, is practically a brand new Job. Or at worst, another Sage situation where it exists in other games but will have it's own identity in FFXIV.

Personally I don't really mind, being too strict about how jobs play in other games would mean they're either dead in the water or never even considered. Sage was a bit out there for me at first but I kind of enjoy seeing the "classic" jobs implemented even if the similarities end up being minimal.

Maybe it’s the job icon for the next job?

Black Mage is in red section. White Mage is in green section. Blue Mage is in red section.

This feels like if people had seen the gunblade on Thancred's back in the ShB teaser trailer and started arguing that it wasn't GNB.

Sure. It could not be GRM. They don't have to associate the three-leaf clover (a GRM motif btw) with GRM just like they didn't have to associate a gunblade with a Squall-job. But as of right now, there is no argument to be had for any other jobs but GRM and COR (and picto even though I personally disagree).
In fact, we have more proof of GRM than COR - t-shirt and NOW the clover - but everyone seems to unanimously agree on the COR idea, but not GRM.

I leaning more toward it being a reference to green mages. The connection between the three leaf clover and greenmage has already been established.

Furthermore, the lead into Dawntrail is about

a viera returning to his homeland. Greenmages were a viera exclusive unit

in prior additions of Final Fantasy.

The job is not going to be anything like the support class it used to be. We know it'll be a ranged damage dealer instead. It'll be interesting to see how Square Enix will make greenmages unique from the other casters

That would seriously be my dream come true! Would instantly be my new main. I think it's already been stated the new jobs will both be DPS though -- specifically a melee and a caster.

Okay, crazy not-serious new theory: new job is "Gambler" similar to the "Lady Luck" job in FFX-2. That's not a three leaf clover, it's a club symbol, like in cards. The TMNT shirt was hinting at the four suits of playing cards, since there are four turtles.
