au ra headphones

Greetings again!
Today I saw what headphones look like on au ra. It looks alright, but to me it looks like they have pushed it away to listen to someone who tried getting their attention. So, I thought to try my hands on considering what headphones that work with their horns may look like.

so let's start from the top.
We have two unnamed au ra. Today they will demonstrate for us.

We can try lowering them for a more aesthetic appeal. But even then, would they hear anything? Their ears are their horns after all.

I do not know any real life examples of animals using their horns as ears. Horns usually aren't wholly hollow either- they usually have a sheath that covers the inner boney core. Birds have the closest thing to a hollow horn. Even then, part of if not all of the inside of the horn has a structure resembling a sponge. So, where does that leave us? I tried my hand at a very rough cross section. I'm sure I missed some details. Did you know au ra can feel when their horn is being touched? Does that mean they feel pain in their horns? Horns usually lack nerve endings. We can assume they can feel touch but likely not true pain with their horns. But that is another tangent-
So, what would au ra use to listen to music with? Bone headphones more than likely. They already exist so there is an easy design. Instead of plugging the canal, they would attach to a surface that has bone underneath. Most likely, for au ra, it would go around the base of their horns- however I have included a possible other placement. Au ra have multiple horn shapes, so it may differ based on individual. With some drastic modifications, classic headphones may be able to go on/around horns.

The headphones should go around their neck with the volume turned up.

All I know is that life as an Au Ra feels like it would be inconvenient and now I have “Au Ra headphones” to add to the list of things that keep me up at night along with “Au Ra pillow”, “Au Ra linkpearl”, “Au Ra helmet”, and “how do Au Ra put a shirt on?”.

If I lick their horns...is it the same as licking someone's ears?

Not asking for a friend. Asking for me. You all know what I'm about.

Technically they shouldnt need headphones in the first place considering theyre hearing is pretty good.

Instead they actually should wear in around their neck like an accessory. Same deal goes with Miqo, Viera and Hroth.

Headphones on head only look natural on Hyur and Roegadyn (now that I think about it, these are the only two races to have normal rounded ears)

Maybe their horns are sensitive enough to pick up on that type of headphones if you turn them up loud enough. Just go with it.

Special-shaped pillows seems like the necessary answer for that one.

Linkpearls could strap to the outside of the horn maybe, or as an earring.

Helmets would need to hinge open.

Realistically they would probably stick to clothing that either has a wide neck-hole or buttons up after you put it on.

They are not headphones they are Ear Guards. Like what you wear to protect you from loud noise on a construction side when you operate heavy Magitek.

I mean it's fine to imagine they are headphones. But this whole theory is moot.

But of course they are useless anyway.

Plenty of ear guards also contain headphones, though. Most of the guys I work with have them. (They're not supposed to, mind, but as long as the job gets done we're too short-staffed to actually do anything about it.)

Shirts use buttons and go around your neck, they have nothing to do with your head. If you mean a pullover or V-neck then you can just change how they are placed on the body.

Okay. Now I wanna know how those would actually need to look to work for Au Ra

How would you protect such horns from sound? You'd need to wrap pretty much the entire head, and then cut eyeslits. Given that bone conducts sound differently, it might take quite a BIT of padding...

i just assume they are like the "bone" conduction headphones you can get, where they utilise vibration to deploy sound. A lot of runners use them as they can listen to music and still hear.

As long as they have good Bluetooth, I don't care how they work.

my bad. I thought it would be a fun thought experiment to imagine what headphones that work with au ra horns would look like- though in all fairness I didn't spend longer than an hour thinking this up.
