Reasons why the new Scouting job is NOT Corsair

With the European fan fest two weeks away. I thought it was appropriate to bring back this topic.

First I decided to look at Corsair gameplay from ff11 and their general gameplay or rather...their unique trait is to gamble aka astro cards. This is extremely similar to astro in FFXIV and as yoshida said, he likes for each new job to feel very unique. So corsair core mechanic just wouldn't work and the jobs in FFXIV at least carry over a lot of unique traits from the original job.

Such as - Rdm using black and white magic, dragoon iconic jumps, blue mage learning monster spells. Sage being the only outlier as sage was never unique to begin with in the FF series as it was just an upgraded rdm.

So with Corsair main unique mechanic being similar to astro, that is one big reason it's not going to be added.

Second reason is Mch was created in response of Corsair. Back in HW yoshida said he created mch due to people wanting a gun job because of the relic that is 1.0 assests of the corsair sign still being around in lominsa. And we know that there are NPCs that are Corsair such as the city state leader... Corsair is a full ranged job. Proof of this? Because we seen her fight in the endwalker story to save lominsa, she was pure ranged along with her master.

Third reason is it makes no sense to be a melee fighter if the main weapon of Corsair is a gun. I know some people are going to bring up ninja ninjutsu being ranged by that makes more sense than shooting a pistol/hexgun or a musket/rifle in close range. It'll just look EXTREMELY silly and kills the whole point of it being a ranged weapon.

Corsair main weapon is their gun and their sword was secondary..and speaking of their sword. They use a cutless, the sword shown in the endwalker trailer was a short straight sword. Nothing a pirate uses, even in the game we see pirate enemies used cutless. Even in FF11 it says they use ranged attacks more for most of their damage. I don't see CBU3 completely changing the way corsair works when one...they already exist in the game as full ranged fighters and two they don't use any swords in FFXIV lore.

Just like geomancer, they're not going to make the job payable to players since it's already an established thing in the lore.

So that's pretty much all I have left to DISPROVE further it's not Corsair . With that said that's all this is speculation but the idea it's hard confirmed it's Corsair has made people VERY hostile if you say it's anything else which is surprising to me.

If there is one thing you should always do with non confirmed jobs..is raise your expectations so high you think it's confirmed. This happened before in stormblood when everybody thought lyse was a dancer... Then again when everybody thought dancer was going to be a healer but turned out to be a ranged DPS when it was first announced during ShB.

The same thing is happening with Corsair so no, Corsair isn't a HARD confirmation and we'll all see in two weeks.

I could see a FF14 version of corsair being a buffing melee job similar to dancer. Just have them do a dice roll buff that gives an AoE buff depending on what was rolled or something. We also have no idea what AST is gonna look like in DT since they are getting their biannual rework.

Your examples are more of the "Musketeer" job that was expected to come since there used to be a Musketeer guild in Limsa back in like 1.0 and there are still carryovers in the game from then.

I could very easily see SE having you use melee attacks to build up for using your hexgun as a burst attack of some sort or having a melee rotation and a ranged rotation you swap between depending on the weapon. I think hexguns and pistols would work much better in close range than at a distance so I think that would fit in with the melee archetype as well.

I don't take much stock in the teaser trailer as SE has changed things from the trailers before and the WoL's weapon was missing from the end of the trailer when he was resting his hand on... air. I wouldn't be shocked to see a bait and switch from them with the WoL's weapon in the full trailer in January.

All that being said, I am hopeful for a corsair/pirate type class and we may not even know until January as they could give us information on the caster with this fanfest as it didn't seem to be in the trailer at all.

But my money is still on a pirate-y class àla cannoneer or at the very least some nimble ff14 original dual wielding job since it shares DEX gear with Nin, having an off-hand gun would make sense thematically

seeing how sage in FF14 is absolutely nothing like any sage has been in final fantasy before it's highly possible to do.

get rid of the notion it matters how close to the orignal or another version was past the few main job staples we already have, the rest are going to be a new FF14 spin of any job made.

Nah it's like the 'soil rotation' farmers use, by delaying it not only do they get the original response of 'youre wrong it will definitely be corsair stop trolling', they also get this second response of 'this is a copypaste from the reddit'. If it were posted at the same time, it'd just be seen as that, a crosspost

Still don't get how the guy has so much disposable income, in this economic climate, to be faffing about with so many alts just to troll one specific online game's forums. Like, go start a business or something

Anyway, to the topic at hand:

Hardly. Look at SGE. The original was an advanced Red Mage with high level White and Black Magic but losing the melee weapons and armor. FFXIV's is a combination of generic Arcane Mage and Greek Doctor with a flair for Gundam-inspired attacks using it's array of modified magic wands (which are, in lore, what Nouliths are). It has basically nothing in common with the original Final Fantasy Job called Sage other than "uses magic". Unlike RDM, it's not even using White Magic for its heals, it's using Aetherology and probably a modified version of Arcanima combined with medical knowledge about the body to perform magical battlefield minor surgical procedures.

RDM, while inspired by prior Red Mages, doesn't have as much in common with them as you'd think. It doesn't wear medium armor (e.g. Scouting/Striking), its melee strikes are all magical other than the base 1-2-3 that you never use, but not imbued with elements like FF11's, and it doesn't use much traditional White Magic - there's no "Vercure 2", for example. Not to mention it doesn't get its actual White Magic healing spells until super late, level 54 and 64 respectively, but does get Holy (and a far more powerful version than WHM's, which isn't ever true in FF games) and Flare, which it normally doesn't get access to at all.

While they take inspiration from prior games, they can modify them pretty frequently.

Also, the guild from 1.0 you're talking about are Musketeers, not Corsairs.

They could still bring in corsair and not make it a direct copy of ff11 corsair and get rid of the dice/card system. I could also see them dual wielding a pistol and sword and have opposite gameplay of red mage where they build job gauge with melee then zoom out for a range combo. And they could bring some raid wide buffs but make a unique system thats different from the card and dice thing.

I don't think I would want "Red Mage, but backwards" as a job. I hope they are more creative than that.

I think they could still bring corsair and get creative and still make it unique compared to other final fantasy games it's been in. I don't know how they would design it but I would like having it in game. So far i think they done decent at keeping true to each jobs themes but also changing them to be somewhat more unique to ff14 with how they designed jobs.

Corsairs were pretty good Scouting units in StarCraft. Even better than Scouts themselves.
