It's not a priority thing, but I think it'd be nice to have an optional ♂ or ♀ next to players names, It'll stop the "It's a trap!" moments and won't confuse other players into thinking Manthra's are Mithra's etc.
Thoughts? ;)

Unfortunately it'd just cause honest folks a lot of harassing issues and eventually anyone not using it would get harassed. After all, we all know "there is no such thing as women on the internet" anyways.
And what if you put the female sign up when you are in reality a male?
Do you want SE to check each player individually? Do you want them to decide your gender based on the name on the credit card you pay with? If so, what if a 17 year old girl pays with her dad's CC?
Or what if someone has an unisex name (like Robin or Casey), how will SE know what your gender is, will they call you and decide based on your voice?
Yes, this seems entirely realistic. It probably won't cost more than a few cents per user!
On a serious note:
No, OP, this idea is ridiculous. Either assume all players to be male until proven female, or treat people as their in-game gender. It's your choice.
Personally, I treat female characters as females unless they ask me not to. That doesn't mean I give them free gear, however.
It's usually smart to just treat everyone equally, regardless of gender. That's what I do.
If you find it within your interests to get to know someone or faun over them, just verify their gender then.
For everyone else, it couldn't matter less whether that Miqo is a guy or a girl.
Isn't that why there are races with both gender? (at least in 2.0)
Err... whoa! I wasn't asking to oppress people, yikes...
I was thinking about the option for those that care, but I guess someone could lie about their gender, that's their choice, I suppose you can only trust in peoples honesty for whatever it's worth.
I'm sorry If I offended you. o.O
if you were in china a man can only make a male character & women can only make a female character, if you lied the government will punish you. and yeah there registered on the internet like a social security number when they log on.
be happy we have the freedom to do whatever we want.
You didn't offend me, I just see the idea as completely pointless :p. People who want to trick people into thinking they're the opposite gender will still do that, even with these characters behind their names :p. People who don't want to trick people like that would just tell people they're guys (or girls, if they play male characters).
So the way I see it, there's no point in adding it.
Completely useless feature. Why does it matter if you're male or female in an MMORPG? It doesn't. At all.
MMOs are used as a form of escapism, if people want to play other genders-so be it. I don't see why you would treat them any different.

Seriously though, while the idea is not without reason, i think it will have to go in the 'unnecessary and they should work on more important things' pile.
I am a gamer girl, don't hit on me silly boys!
Like you could enforce that.
I think it would be better if you just stop trying to chat people up ingame.
This goes against the online manners guideline Square Enix set out for each and every one of us to follow!
That means never letting anyone know that I'm actually a girl.Quote:
● Never share personal information about yourself or others.
By the way, can I have some free gil? :o
What if instead of the symbols you had a floating picture of the player's private parts?
That would be 100% accurate right?
Stop playing this game with your weiner and everything will be fine.
What does the real gender matter anyways? Unless you are trying online dating ingame ofc, but then again, it's not a dating site, it's a game where you play what you want and your gender for once doesn't really matter :D
I can see the rebuttal threads now.
"SE, just get rid of Gender please."
"Gender: Balance and you"
"BBP: Bouncing Balls Physics"
"OMG SE Y U NO LET PLAYERZ B TRANNY"
Will there be cake?
......Forget it, I'm not going.....
Tis' as Dragon said. Assume all players are male. Not only is it safer this way for both parties, it's also sexier.
Lol, such an amazing thread.
Just assume its male. If you're not sure, ask?
Stop hitting on every cat girl you see.
I treat people like the gender they play as.
If a guy doesn't want to be treated like a lady, he shoulda rolled something else.
God, has someone posted the popcorn gif in this thread yet? I can't be bothered to read the whole thing and I don't have the gif handy, but boy howdy.
1. Who could care less about what gender ppl are.
2. Some ppl don't like to tell others what gender they are anyway and rather just keep it secret.
yaaaaaaa no lol i dont know dont see point! people would still lie..
