Ifrit is pretty much useless trash now. I'd edit that out of your list if I were you.
I'm personally running with the GC (Limsa too!) spear right now, using the Tunic, Earrings, Bracelet, Belt and Trident itself for the 5 set piece bonus for +30atk.
I don't have Garuda's Beak, yet if I did I would probably alternate between the two of those depending on the mobs/situation.
The thumb rule is to pick the weapon with the highest DPS, which for LNC/DRG is Garuda's Beak if relics are not included. Second Place goes to the highest ranking GC weapon.
Gae Bolg > Storm Lieutenant's Trident > Garuda Beak >
Looking at DPS and Base Damage (influences auto-attack, does more damage to end-game fights than you think ^_~), the Ifrit's Harpoon is bested by the Sergeant Spear if you have the Atk Power Sanction, and the Lieutenant's Spears are above those, *assuming* you have the 5-piece bonus or the Flame Spear which has the attack power pre-bonus.
Factoring in Auto-attack and jump damage:
Lieutenant's Spear > Garuda > Sergeant/Ifrit
Sergeant offered up a 21.75% increase in WS damage, but add auto-attack and jump into that equation, and Ifrit's is 22% more damage output. I was too lazy to get exactly 7.8%, but I feel 7.1 is close enough for me xD.
My Studies
"(unless you are a Flamer and your lieutenant spear has Attack Power and a higher Base Damage on it by default…YOU [assholes] have the best spear in-game next to Garuda/Relic)"
lol dont know why that line made me lol so much but it did >< we may have the better spear but our lieutenants armor is mage heavy :(
Hmm. Being Gridanian I don't think there is a set combination that actually merits the loss of stats required to get the added bonus on the high rank spear, any tips in that department?
I should ask, what constitutes a piece that meets that requirement, any Grand Company equipment or only one with a set passive?
You're kidding?
Lieutenant Overcoat, Lieutenant Hat, Choker and one random piece. I would say Bracelet because you might lose -4 STR OR PIE (assume you use HQ Bracelet) but in return you get +45 Hp and +25 ATK from the spear. That's the set I'm running with and the Crit damage is HUGE. Any piece from Grand Company (Green) will meet the requirement.
The weapon is largely dependent on your clothes. If you got full DL, use Garuda. If you got plenty of good GC pieces along with good melded pieces, use Lieutenant.
I'll lend you my experience on this as i bought the spear tabard bracelets choker and the belt only to find when i bought the Gridanian Officer's Cap that i could have not wasted my seals on the belt because it counts towards the 5 piece requirement. So i guess any gear bought with seals at the adders nest thats unique/untradeable counts as serpent gear even if it isnt there in the name.
Head, Earring, Neck, Bracer will likely be the best combo I can get, as it won't screw up the 32 PIE I have on my body, and I still wind up with a net gain on Accuracy and Piety that way.
Trident
Storm Sergeant's Hose
Storm Segeant's Belt
Storm Sergeant's Earring
Storm Sergeant's Bracelet
Would be a pretty good selection I think to meet the 5 piece requirement.
I'd rather not mess with my head/hands because i have darklight for both of those. The only real loss here is the pants. and I suppose the belt as well, but I've been using the Veteran's Field Belt, but i think company bonuses more than make up for the loss of both.
What are you using for your neck that makes it worth preserving?
Hat and Overcoat gives 25PIE and 10STR...losing 10STR and 36PIE :/ For one focusing more on caps, this does not end well without DL Caligae :3
It's still a net loss of 16 Piety with the loss of a bracelet, which, considering that I'm still under cap, will be a painful loss.
To compensate, I'd have to sacrifice a STR ring, so yes, the result is a loss in STR. About 10 STR to be exact. Doing it without the coat results in a Piety gain for a loss of about 2 STR. It's the Critical Attak Power I'll miss.
Depends on whether you have crit rating in your build or not, +120 Crit ATK is nearly triple meld grade IV while +36 PIE is still double meld grade IV. It's probably the biggest sell point for the Lieutenant set actually.

It makes Impulse Drive crit as much as Talon.
P.S: that was done without Power Surge.
my gear right now for 50 will be:
hart guisarme +1
drachen headgear
cobalt haubergeon: pie +11 x2
cobalt mitt gauntlets: str +12 x2
accuracy necklace
rubelite ring x2
drachen pants
storm sergeant earring
storm sergeant bracelet
and explorer's moccasins
should cap my str, considering lieutenant trident for best bet right now.
I would say get Mog Fork, dump acc necklace (it's terrible) for a Gorget HQ. Yes, Lieutenant Trident is better, but it may require more grinding so it's all depend on you. Your current setup doesn't have much STR/PIE to tap in high DPS stat, so don't worry about it much. I use Explorer Moccasins (with Explorer Tool Belt as well) in my build mainly because I focus on Crit ATK as much as STR (343 STR 290 PIE +135 Crit Atk), but for your build just use AF feet.
i do cap my str with that stuff :v
I'm no math nut, but I'm pretty sure the sheer DPS increase (a 5% gain) still trumps whatever you throw on a double-melded crafted weapon. I can tell you with great certainty that it's not "plenty stronger" than Ifrit's.
Here's the comparison, since I had to look it up.
Hart Guisarme +1 : DMG140 Delay3.7 (DPS:37.84) Acc+7 Atk+15 (+whatever meld)
vs
Ifrit's Harpoon : DMG151 Delay3.8 (DPS:39.74) Atk+30
"DPS" is the stat you wanna look at since base damage and delay both factor in for a weapons damage. It's not that far off and +30 or more STR and +7 ACC will do a lot more to add on to your weapon skills than a 1.9 DPS and a +15 Attack Power difference.
Completely, and utterly false. Especially considering STR is so incredibly easy to cap. When are you going to stop posting information that is not accurate? Do you just like to increase your post count? Ifrit's Harpoon is going to get you miles farther than a Hart Guisarme, just based off the fact that your stat caps will be higher. This is like the time you said PIE was a terrible stat for DRG.
Sorry, but Ifrit's is better, and not just because of "str vs. attack".
Holy shit since when did people who think something else is better incite so much hatred?
Oh wait this is the FFXIV forum. Instead of ad hominem attacks on my IQ why don't you come back with a better reason than "because I said you're stupid". Until then, have fun.
Holy shi... and you people call me stupid. Auto attack damage is not comparable to weapon skill damage, period. STR increases your WS damage by a considerable amount while damage adds to your auto attack damage how are you not getting this? If you pick which weapon alone is stronger then the winner goes to the +1 crafted with decent double STR materia.
As far as my other post about Pie vs Crit Attack that was already covered earlier in this thread.

Read later in the thread about testing on damage and dps of a weapon etc.
Oh man those Garuda weapons. Suck low base damage must really hurt your stat caps. They are terrible aren't they?
/sarcasm
There could in all honesty just be a flaw in his formula. I haven't looked at that post since he first made it and his sample size was pretty small. I wouldn't really take that thread as solid fact unless it's been peer reviewed or cross referenced.
