Reality check: players will continue to ask until every player can get any house they want without fighting some form of RNG.
Players should be demanding housing for all.. imo.
This game has failed when it comes to housing availability every year since it was introduced.
I am fortunate and have my home from the start, but the amount of players that are still waiting? Sickening + Shameful SE.
Housing idea: start begging for instanced instead! lol :D
Reality is if they realistically add enough wards and districts the game, every server WILL have enough for everyone to at least get one plot. It would take like three to four more additional residential areas though. I know people don't like the idea of it anymore as much, and want instanced housing. I'm not arguing against instanced housing, but they should absolutely use the system that already exists and add enough wards, and even new districts to accommodate all.
City States that would work which we have left:
- Doman Enclave has plenty of unfinished/unbuilt areas that could be repurposed into a housing ward off map.
- Ala Mhigo (would potentially revitalize the zones tbh, and give give Gyr Albania new life. IT NEEDS to happen.)
- Crystarium
- Sharlayan (would help extend the zone out a bit tbh Sharlayan lacks zones in the actual country proper.)
- Thavnair would work, because it has so much in the distance, even an area off at the end of Ratz-at-han that looks like a district entry way.
- Tuliyollal would be a breath of fresh air, and quite unique.
- Garlmald after it gets a restoration arc. Which may be awhile.
In the end I think it should be a goal for every city state to have a housing district for players. Even Mor Dohna, and Idyllshire would be dope.
Instanced Housing is what any smart game dev would do.
And honestly Island Sanctuary is ALMOST there. Outdoor furniture was a good touch, all it would really need is the ability to place down a house somewhere, and the inside is an instance anyway so....
Really just do that and be done with this. Leave wards to rot as a legacy feature and move forward with a solution that actually scales well.
"leave wards to rot as a legacy feature"
I sincerely hope that you are aware that even if instanced housing was out, a massive amount of people would still want ward housing, ward housing is just superior to any type of instanced system, for the simple fact that you actually are around players, and even if you dont "see" them, they still built their house, they are player owned houses, not an empty wasteland.
We can have both… it doesn’t have to be either or. Keep the existing wards for those who want them, add instanced so everyone can have a house.
Honestly, if they really want to keep the game going another decade, they need to modernize the housing system. While Island Sanctuary isn’t there yet, just look at the things we can do with outdoor furnishings there that we couldn’t do in a ward, just because it’s instanced.
Of course Battler would hate housing; he was stuck at his family's private island and manor during Beato's game, watching his friends, family, and self be murdered again and again. ((●≧艸≦●)
Shut uuuuuuup!!!! Shut up dammit!! I won't forgive you, ahh it's useless it's all useleeeeeess!!!!
Some worlds would have a plethora of mostly empty wards because they have half the active player population of Balmung and Mateus. That would be seen as a waste of server resources by those counting beans for SE and so probably would never get an okay unless they're able to redesign housing so worlds only get the number of wards needed for the population instead of every world getting the same number of wards.
It also wouldn't be enough for most players to get "a plot". They want their desired plot. Even now, players on Dynamis and the newest EU worlds are complaining about wards 25-30 still not being opened. They're not complaining about a lack of available plots. They're complaining about a lack of the more desirable medium and large plots. "Look, there are 7 mediums in Goblet!" "No one cares about Goblet, I want LB 11/41".
As I said, the complaints will not stop until every player can get the plot they want, not just any plot. That is never going to happen with a ward system.
Or the wards can be used as the portals into instanced housing, just as they're used to enter apartments. That would generate more foot traffic within the wards and give players the opportunity to pick what they want - having a house "on display" for anyone passing through the wards to easily see or an instanced home that is more private. Some players would prefer having their house in the middle of nowhere so they don't have to worry about a Paissa being next door or a Namazu effigy staring at them from across the street.
I didn't say remove it. So i don't see the point of this reply, just leave it to rot like Squadrons or the piles of other depreciated features in this game. I just think moving forward with an objective solution is long overdue.
Sure but its objectively a worse system to no benefit, you realize that right?
Also I've seen other games do this kind of system as well, its not as unique as you may think.
Wouldn’t they need a server farm the size of a small village to make instanced housing and communal housing districts exist simultaneously?
If they gated off instanced housing with something like high prices or whatever to reduce the amount of houses generated you’d just have people complaining ‘why did you implement housing for everyone that not everyone can get?!?!’
As is often the case the devs have basically programmed themselves into a corner with a cool idea (shared neighbourhoods) that was poorly implemented, and now it’s literally impossible for them to fix without dismantling the entire thing. Which would cost them a ton of resources that they (apparently) don’t have
In the long run, adding instanced would be less of a server drain than continually adding new wards. Wards need to be permanently loaded, instanced only loads when it’s in use.
There shouldn’t be any extra cost in-game for an instanced house, especially since if they manage to do it at all, it would probably be generic neighborhood themes at best, despite what many of us might hope for.
I really feel like (and hope!) that they’re experimenting with what their capabilities are with the Island. The way outdoor furnishings are handled, the see-through glass roof, the open balconies… just imagine what we could get out of an instanced system that isn’t currently possible in the wards!
There will always be those that prefer the wards though, so I’m sure they won’t be going anywhere. But moving forward, they need to explore better options, or they will need that village of servers! lol And honestly it’s the best way they can feasibly solve both the scarcity problem and the lack of larger house sizes for those that want them. Ward housing is limited to old code and layout design, instanced has the potential to fulfill both needs and wants, without being subject to an RNG lotto system.
Congrats, OP. You finally got people to take the bait.
