Blue Mage - Goldor fight

Greetings all!

I don't usually post in these forums, but one thing here troubles me enough to make an exception. It is the final fight in Masked Carnivale, A Golden Opportunity.
As a player of Souls games, I'm used to losing to bosses, only to get back up, learn from my mistakes and do better, learning the mechanics in the process. However, I feel similar philosophy cannot apply here, as the battle seems to be dictated by RNG rather than any set of mechanics one could learn and master.

Exact thing I'm thinking of is the 2nd phase, where Goldor starts channeling the Quake and spamming Lightning at the same time. While I could be wrong, I feel the placement of AoEs is entirely random, and more often than not, I find myself in a place where I simply have no room to run to, as I am entirely blocked off by lightning left, right and forth, while quake is going on behind. With short cast time of those lightnings, I cannot run, I cannot loom, I genuinely have no idea how to deal with those. There are also times where lightnings hit entirely opposite side of the arena, but... those happen much rarer.

I know blue mage is considered a side thing, but it's a side thing I'm enjoying - or at least, would enjoy if I felt the fight was fair. This one mechanic however just feels cheap and, with no tools to respond, I just find myself redoing it time and time again, with no idea of how to do better.

A lot of this fight bugged me as I was going through it. Especially with having to redo part 1 15 damn times cos of a minor misstep in act 2, but that's par for the course with BLU content (Unfortunately)

But at least every mechanic, I could step away from and go "Okay... so to deal with That, I gotta do This.
Blob explodes and has too much health? Gotta Instakill with Freeze/Ultra.
Dolls hit entire arena, diamondback in a "Safe" spot. Quote-unquote.

But the Goldor Rush just seems so cheap. Lightning in phase 1 hits pretty randomly across the arena, if a bit clustered at times, but it didn't (Often) feel targetted, maybe the odd 1 or 2. Which is fine, at least the mechanic lets me adjust/adapt.
But with every single Goldor Rush, it felt like every single lightning blast was aimed within the exact same cone within 15y of me, always the way I was running and always overlapping between the 1st and 2nd quake pulses.
Add in barely being able to see where AoEs are falling because of the battle effects clouding the screen; every single wipe i got was from those damn lightning strikes and giving me 0 room to move. It felt targetted and cheap. 1/2, sure, but not 4/5.
I won Purely by the graces of fate and RNG actually giving me the room to run. No other reason, pure chance.
It didn't feel fun or good.

I'm assuming some here will chant "Skill issue", but it did feel very cheap and unfun, Especially for the Umbrella mode where being hit twice in a row was instakill.

The intended solution to not being able to sprint if you want the achievement, is to use moon flute.

Because it gives you a speed buff, and you outrun the lightening.

or turn on mighty guard and diamondback the whole thing

I did that just stopping dps altogether to focus on running. If you're running nonstop, you can avoid the AoEs in time even if they land on top of you. You just need to be wary of the bigger out/in aoes to make sure you're running into the safe areas.

I had the same issue!
Most of those YouTube videos made it look so easy anyway. But what happens to most of us is that if we get hit even ONCE in that final phase, we're done for. So when facing mechanics like the Goldor Rush or the Ogre + Lightning, even a tad bit of lag will ruin the day.

So I decided to NOT completely follow most YouTube videos... And I set up Mighty Guard & Goblin Punch:

I pop Mighty Guard in the final phase whenever Goldor start casting something big/unpredictable, and I use Goblin Punch for my major attacks since it makes up for Mighty Guard's attack reduction. Goblin Punch is a great attack since it has zero cast time as well. So it's very easy to execute while dodging stuff.

I turn off Mighty Guard to use my insta-cast Primal attacks & DoTs, when I feel safer between the big attacks from Goldor.

I almost always get hit ONCE whenever he does Goldor Rush or some combined lightning attacks. But Mighty Guard always keeps me alive. And the vulnerability debuff always goes away before he does another round of big attacks. (Note: I don't use Mighty Guard when he does the Ogre + Dolls + Brickman + rectangle AoE... That one is very standard in pattern, and totally predictable)

In the end, I beat him after about 19 min:

The video I posted showed him messing up in a few different ways.

He does it without moon flute once because he messed up and forgot.

He gets nearly killed in one of them as he gets hit a few times.

He makes mistakes, and manages anyway.

Don't need to use Moonflute or Diamondback.

When the big center Quake AoE disappears, use J-Kick and it dodges everything.

After more or less solving the first phase on my own, only to end up too tired to do the same for the 2nd i went looking for help. So i watched the video that ICountFrom0 shared(3 times actually because i kept falling asleep - i might have been tired). I didnt like the idea of not being able to attack, so i tossed out the moon flute idea. Instead, i was going to do the Mighty+Diamond combo. So i entered the fight, flew threw phase one, and started phase two. First Goldor Rush, i was a second too slow activating diamondback, and the pushback made me have to just run it out normally. Ok, no worries. Second time, i was slow again. Third time i forgot. I tried once or twice more, consistently being a second too slow, before i just decided to ignore it. I had mighty up, so i could tank a hit(along with healer mimic so i could heal back up with no problems) and like Caimie i just ended up with Mighty+Gob Punch(though unlike her, i was too lazy to toggle it off/on around my cooldown attacks). In the end, i finished the fight on that first pull after the vid and got my umbrella.

I do love, however, that we seem to have 4 viable strats(so far) to get through this. Moonflute, Diamondback, Mighty, and i love the j-kick idea. I wonder if we'll find any more ways to get past this using our current toolset.

After you interrupted His blizzard cast, He will just stand there for few seconds. That's when you need to heal and shield. Then addle And diamondback to tank through the damage. That's how l dealt with it. Yes, the rng can give you 7 stacks of vul, but hid auto attack doesn't hurt that much(about 3.7k each hit with 7 stacks of vul). Just heal through that. Usually you will only have 3 to 5 stacks. This is not that hard. I soloed tsukuyomi and hell's kier synced as blue mage. These trials Were way more hardcore than this masked carnival challenge.

What I remember doing is when Rush started I would run around the edge to safety, then wait for the inner quake to dissipate and hang in there, I made sure to bring exuviation in case I got clipped, and i dint worry about anything else other than just to not stop moving. What really helped me was to remember, I don't need to have a fast completion time and i can heal if need be, so i took healer mimic. J kick helps a lot and so does loom.

The achievement this time does not require that you avoid all dodgable attacks, meaning you can just tank the Goldor Rush mechanic, and eat the attacks. I did this by dodging the quake and initial line AOE then popping diamondback to just eat all the rest of the attacks. Being on healer mimicry you can pom cure yourself back up once diamondback expires and continue on with the fight. You'll have some vuln stacks, which might mean some extra healing after that phase, but you'll still get the trophy to get the umbrella.
