I hope hollowing out FF14 to do that was worth it
When running a business, optimal profit is generated when your customers are complaining but still buying your products.
Considering I wont be playing FF16 for 6months to 2 years thanks to how SE chooses to release their games on PC, I'm not particularly thrilled.
Would be nice if we saw some pay off for EW's poor handling and quality before 7.0 releases. Not as if there is any justification for neglect of one game for the other, but would be nice if everyone, not just PS5 users, had opportunity to play another FF game while we wait for hopefully better expansion.
PC port won't be in 6 months, Yoshi already confirmed that, so I bet it will be roughly year - just in time to overlap with 7.0 release. And then there's also some chance it will be Ep*c exclusive, in which case I'll rather just pirate it.
Game looks nice, but deserves much more shit for being exclusive, just like any exclusive.
Honestly, I enjoyed 7.0. The patches afterward have not been particularly enjoyable though, for reasons many have been complaining about.
I'm so glad FFXIV brings in like 25-30 million a month from subs and game purchases alone just so Square can take all the money and have the FF team work on other games making the MMO overall worse
They make bank off of 14 and tbf it's normal to use some of that profit to fund other projects. IMO I do think 14 has been neglected by 16 not just because of the lack of funds but due to both games being under the control of CBU3 and SE wasting tens of millions on obvious flops.
Welcome to capitalism?
Legally, corporations who have public stock are required to make money for their shareholders. They only care about the customer as much as is required to keep them paying.
If you want real change, need to change the way the economy functions. As it is now, it's just a means to make investors money.
Yeah I think it's good that they can support their games as a whole, but not so fond of neglecting their flagship so to speak. It's maybe why this game is getting more casualized and the "go play other games" argument is a nice way to also tell people: "see this other Square Enix game, check it out". It is what it is?
Well, a lot of investors are idiots and only think about the money printer going brrrrrrrrrrr and are often enough to fucking stupid to invest in making sure that money printer still goes brrrr and SE is one of the best examples of this it's miracle the company is still here with its suicidal tendencies.
Yeah how dare SE, a company known for their multiple IPs as well as a franchise that strives to reinvent itself with every title not drop everything and only focus on their beloved cashcow that is FFXIV.
Im sure the majority of consumers who dont give a flying fuck about this game is going to like thay business decision.
Yeah I rather see new things coming out from SE rather than just stick to a single game like Blizzard does with WoW. I say this as a consumer that enjoys other games besides FFXIV.
Keep being salty folks.
I just hope I have enough popcorn when things don't change as drastically as people expect once FFXVI is out and the team is officially back on full FFXIV duty.
Its so funny about about you WoW Refugees that defend Square at every step all have thousands of posts in 2 years while everyone that has been here for almost 10 years doesnt come even close to that. Where do you find all the time to shill with the "huge amount of content in the game"?
The hardware level graphics team we know got released back to XIV last year and immediately put to work on the 7.0 graphical overhaul.
But you're right, most of the core team is going continue to be working on the PC port for the next year, as well as whatever events and updates they have planned.
OK, you don't seem to know how this works.
For a new project, companies raise external investments + funds raised from net profits that is specific to new projects.
Whats seems to be the case here is, no external investments applied for, funds and resources taken directly from concurrent projects i.e in this case FF14 as their other game releases have not done well.
So yes, the likeliness of SE actually grafting funds from FF14 that should of been for FF14 diverted, this is the bit you are missing and many others as well, the resources and funds for FF14 have been diverted for another game as opposed to specific investment for it.
You realise very few companies actually fund their projects without investments right and when they do, something has to give - this is FF14.
Do people like you that fall for clickbait articles realize the PVE was always going to be paid?
Ok then have fun paying monthly for a mediocre single player experience with a cashshop while all the revenue goes into failed NFT projects. You are so far down the white knight hole that you made up your own reality.
I'm interested in seeing what happens once FFXVI is out - especially if it does fairly well. FFXIV lost some core members of its original team who went to work on FFXVI and assuming they don't get assigned to a different project, perhaps they'll come back to work on FFXIV?
It's also interesting timing for the paused housing demolition timer to activate just a day before FFXVI releases...
All in all, FFXVI seems to be what I wanted FFXIV to be and what FFXIV initially implied it was going to be. Though if I had to choose, I'd have preferred the MMO that wasn't a 'one and done' game to be the one with the bulk of attention and focus. It is what it is, though.
I don't want to defend that SE shill, but OW2 is really garbage and insult to original players. OW2 is not doing good, people expected PvE to be paid, but devs canceled main part of PvE, and yet they still demand money for it. Just to put it in perspective, OW1 was making this Archives missions, which are just PvE and were for free. Now, without the features that they've promised, this part of the game will be pretty much same as those Archive missions, except that you will need to pay for it. Then there is plethora of other reasons why OW2 is so terrible, they're breaking original philosophy of the game, they keep reworking heroes, just to make them even worse, they have no clue how to balance things and so on.
And twitch metrics right now are inaccurate, OW2 has drops active, viewers are inflated by nearly 150% percent. OW2 in no universe has more twitch viewers than Fortnite:

I have fun playing Final Fantasy XIV.
I'm about to have fun playing Final Fantasy XVI.
Sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Majority of FF14 devs are working on 7.0, while small number of devs do get moved around. If anything is being hurt its patches and nothing beyond that. With the graphics upgrade and other changes their making not surprised things seem hindered or lacking. Has for funds, be it SE or Blizzard both companies invest a large chunk of what their mmo's pull in elsewhere. Got to pay the bills and keep the lights on...
I think people like you forget OW2 is a f2p game. PUBG, CS, Guild Wars - all went f2p in one way or another and stuff that you used to get showered in got more scarce in favour of monetization. Thats just the tradeoff for a larger playerbase. While yes the PVE isnt going to be as extensive as it was shown before release its also going to be cheaper and if you are a regular battlepass buyer you are essentially paying 5€ per season for additional PVE content.
Ill give you the Twitchtracker links, i only opened the twitch dictionary and looked at current numbers.
Yeah because them not doing an exploratory zone this expansion was because they lacked money and never was because of the team making those design decisions.
See this is my main problem with people throwing out the "FFXVI is taking away resources" excuse. Because its faulting the clear design choices away into something like money when really you c
Stupid phone. I didnt mean to hit reply and I cant delete that message on mobile somehow.
What I meant to say was that you can throw all the money in the world into a project and that still wont solve the problems people have with FFXIV. Anyone who actually pays attention to how this game delivers its content can see how they deliver just the bare minimum and expand on it within the patch cycles.
There definitely are some resources that were shifted from FFXIV to FFXVI, maybe not as much as a lot of people seem to think, but the basic way of companies working on new projects is shift some personnel over to the new project, rather than spending more money on new hires to work on the new project. It might not be why we don't have the exploratory zone, or it might very well be the reason since the resources they would have had to cover everything with that zone added just weren't there when people were moved to the new project.
