I know their presence can be rarely felt, but thank you to the board mods for removing two threads this morning.

I dont mind the odd thread here and there, like trolling will exist in any avenue of open forum...it was just the amount of alts posting stupid, bait driven topics and like communicating with themselves via the alts is where I was like oh come on this isn't healthy. At this point I'm inclined to think Aveyond is an alt because they have actually been true to their word at the moment and haven't been back since their departure XD. Im ever so sorry if me typing that name makes them come back to the forums post haste haha.

I can’t praise this Zephyr Im sorry :( I want to stay hopeful that this place will improve but honestly they deleted a thread that was made to name and shame and they still didn’t ban the user himself AND he continued to name and shame:

That account is probably still not banned even after this and even if, it wouldn’t matter because they have dozens alts.
At this point Im actually believing one of them is either a mod or they are awfully favoured because any active mod would see what is going on with all the alts and all the threads made to incite people for “fun” but nothing changes and it could be EASILY changed and it’s clear they are around, but choose to do nothing. Can’t be praised unless thanked for the bare minimum…honestly this matter should be taken out of the forums and talked about at this point for anything to change.

Removing a thread does nothing. 24 hours is usually when that thread is at it's busiest so they removed a thread that was winding down. Banning is where it's at. Even if it's an alt. One alt down means the next could follow right along with it.

They make like 6 a day now. So one every 24 hours is the barest of minimums.

Honestly I don’t think they care all too much about these forums at all. There’s 0 evidence that devs read anything posted here and there is 0 CM interaction.

I know this place clearly isn't the main source for new people to come voice their concerns, likings etc of the game. That clearly is reddit, discord and twitter. However just for the amount of people who do want to come here...the amount of nonsense troll posts and also said posters hijacking other threads to bring them down its just not a good look. I mean heck if we wanted to name or shame like he has there are plenty of alts they could banhammer in one go...but they're spending a good bit of money on these alts XD

I agree with you 100%. Things can and should be a lot better here! But I have seen 3 threads lately removed and a few comments here and there. It's a start and something I want to encourage.

I thought this was a sarcastic thread. The main reason the forum is in this state is the few dozen of people and their alts that continue trolling their ways. Everyone knows their names and the names of their alts, and roam free like mosquitoes on a hot summer day, but nothing is done. SE seems to be able to ban ingame without banning on the forum (or at least I've seen people coming and complain on the forum for their ingame ban), so they should be able to do the opposite. And if not, that should be implemented.

On topic: you're absolutely right Sassy, I think it's just nice to see SOMETHING done, even if it isn't even really a slap on the wrist. What's concerning is that he does seem to be escalating his behaviour, which makes everything nastier for sure. I'm not sure what we could ever do to get SE to notice or care. Maybe have a Japanese poster try to post something on our behalf in their forum? idk.

I can definitely see how you'd expect this to be sarcasm but I really was being sincere. This place has a LONG way to go, but I appreciate the effort to remove the absolute worst of it. It's a low standard for a community but it's definitely more than I've seen before.

I also agree with Sassy - It's a bit sad you have to be wary here due to the hostility. Other game communities have simple things like pet threads, cosplays, or just more openness talking about themselves. I wouldn't feel comfortable engaging in things like that here as you know some people would take the harassment too far. It's sad.

That honestly would be the right thing to do. No one person should be allowed to disrupt your game's official forums to the extent they do. I do hope even more action is taken for sure.

What disgusting behavior. I'm so sorry that happened to that poster and it should be unacceptable. One time someone posted a picture of their cat, and I was in the middle of replying with a picture of my cat when I thought, "What if X troll reverse-image searches this or something?" I then deleted my post. Was a bizarre moment for me and a thought process I haven't had on a gaming forum before.

I'm glad the moderators got rid of a thread naming and shaming people.

Now let's spend the next page and a half passive aggressively talking circles around talking about a specific person, now *that's* the FFXIV way. :rolleyes:

They can do the opposite. I got banned here before for some name I called someone (not a slur or anything, just like profanity) but didn't get banned from the game.

I participated in both threads, but all my comments in those threads are gone from my post history. One of the threads started just yesterday and it was unusually quick of them to take action.

Usually if all your comments are gone from your own post history they probably deleted the thread or a chain of comments. If you haven't posted, well...guess it's not so noticeable and the action would fly under the radar.

Oh and to the OP's post, I think we can and should praise moderation when we see it. It is appreciated. Thank you mods for getting rid of the naming and shaming content. We meme and troll each other and even get heated here sometimes and I appreciate that you let us mostly work things out, but that was a step too far.

This also doesn't mean that we don't think there is some room for improvement with it and mods if you're watching this, please see what you can do about the trolling. It was tolerable before but it's starting to completely take over the forums.

I would very much like anything thrown out of the window with these trolls but deleting threads doesn't do too much. The issue that is concerning here is if you are getting reports about these threads from this particular few people and this is abundant in being reported surely you must think hmmm maybe its best to ban the user now rather then let them cook.

If someone's reaction to people being annoyed that they consistently do their job poorly over a prolonged period of time... is to cross their arms, sit down, and say, "Fine! Then I won't do my job at all!" ... then, er... I can't say I have much sympathy.

That said, because this is Square-Enix, it's probably best to start with the assumption that the moderators "want" to do their job well, but are hamstrung by some combination of being understaffed, underpaid, operating under a ridiculous amount of bureaucratic overhead and regulations, or otherwise just being hampered by all the usual convolutions that service-level employees are subjected to in, or when employed by, large corporations... especially large Japanese corporations, where it probably requires an entire Shadowbringers-length questline just to ask a supervisor a question.

I agree. Someone said it was a dozen or so people causing problems but honestly I think its around four or five people total, who hate the game but refuse to stop playing it and/or paying for it and move on to a new hobby.

Its nice to see some action being taken, even if we really need much more direct action taken moderation. I get that trolling will always be a thing on forums like this, but it has turned very vicious and vindictive of late, from actively targeting users with sick insults, not to mention the constant use of LGBTQ+ issues as a shield to stoke the angry in almost ever viewpoint. Its sad because this could be a great community hub, but this just hurt everyone involved outside of a few immature edge lords.

For better or worse, y'all need to consider that making threads such as these only serve to encourage the behavior more than it does anything else,

The behavior honestly is already so out of control, I don't think this thread's presence will influence the types of threads being made by antagonistic posters. But it is nice to see how many people here have really just had enough, and it's encouraging to see at least some small steps to rectifying it.

I got a suspension from the forums because I told someone that no one gave a flying (rhymes with truck) about their ultimate clears. Yet that person kept on trolling, and calling people who didn't clear ultimates trash and insulting them non-stop, didn't get anything done to them.
