Begging people to not be rude, please. This has been a really rough time, I'm mostly just venting.
My friend owned house w10-plot14 in Excal Mist. They passed away a few months ago, and their fam was unable to log into his account. I'm trying to bid on it and redeco it the way they had it, for memory reasons. His fam also plays ff14 and we all shared the house.
This isn't to say I hope people don't take the house, I know there are already 40 entries on it, and I'm not going to be upset if I don't get it.
Their fam contacted squenix to ask if there was any protocol for claiming a deceased player's account, and it seems there just isn't one at all. Even with proof of death and relation to the person, SE won't allow account takeover. Part of me gets it, but it also sucks. There are some things both me and his fam members would love to have from his house, as one would keep mementos in real life of a passed friend/fam. I dunno, it just really sucks that Squenix doesn't have a way to deal with this.

Firstly, I'm so sorry for your loss.
My in-game family and I tragically lost a close friend ourselves over a year ago now (another close friend of mine made a thread in the Balmung forum), and we were in the same situation - trying to keep his house intact as a memorial, alas, SE gave us the same response. The GM was extremely sympathetic and compassionate, but sadly there was nothing they could do, and all they could suggest was to ask the development team to change it. Alas, housing demolition was turned back on, and his house was repossed a few months ago and reclaimed. ; ;

06-13-2023, 01:14 PMStormpeaksOnly advice I can give is to try and get the house and keep it intact, keep a random from taking it, ask as many of your friends that are able to relo there to try and do it, and then ask for tenancy if you manage to get it, you wont have the house "as it was", but at least you'll keep the spot as a memorial, you can always re-do the outside decorations as it used to be as well.Quote:

Lets be honest here, they are just lazy, there is no reason why they couldnt give their account to their family especially with actual proof that the person has passed. I never even considered something like this could happen. I've seen a few people make memorials in housing for people when have passed but this particular situation is heartbreaking. I really wish we had a better system in place for something like this. Even if you lose the original plot I would hope you find a new home to recreate the previous one. I would love it if people cared enough to try to hold on to my memory like that.

I too had a very close friend pass away years ago, he was like a brother to me :(
All my gaming has not felt as fun ever since..he remains on my friends list and a member of the free company (just because)....so incredibly sad. \

I really wish there was something you could do in-game when a player passes… if not their house, maybe let their friends create an instanced memorial spot or shrine of sorts that you could visit, maybe with a hologram of their character or something.
They really should add something… this is an older game and it’s players are getting older too… hell most of the people I play with are over 40… -

I'm so sorry to hear this. My recommendation, if you can't get that particular plot is to find a similar one, maybe on another server (on Dynamis even) and redecorate it just the way they had it. It may not be /the/ spot but similar enough for you guys to visit and remember your friend/family member.
This has been a sobering moment, and I highly recommend people think about their digital footprint after passing. I've made sure my fiancé has my credentials, and I have his in the event one of us passes. You never know. -

Thanks everyone, I really really appreciate all the ideas!! I didn't end up winning the plot, but I already have a medium that I didn't know how to decorate so I'll be adding some of his flair to it! In addition, I used a retainer fantasia so that, in a way, we can share a house again. Part of me feels weird, but my FC mates have all been very helpful reminding me that everyone grieves different.
It would really be wonderful if SQuenix could figure something out in the future. It sucks that a company that constantly goes on about caring for their players is still just a company in the end. It's a cruel reminder that everything will stay the same no matter what happens.

Yeah...this is the one way they should allow a player to player transfer of a house. Designate someone the house goes to if you permanently close your account. Account is gone forever. That's the condition to give your house to someone.

Did they happen to have an apartment or fc room? The apartments are forever and an fc room will stay as long as they don't get kicked and the fc remains housed (using the move feature will retain the rooms). If not, perhaps if someone had space for an alt, they could level it up and purchase either/or, decorate it to the departed's taste and leave a guestbook for people to sign & leave memories?

My condolances for your loss; but when people are gone we cannot just turn the housing wards into constant monuments to them - lots of people die and lose loved ones that play FF. If anything I would like maybe a graveyard if that came to it. -

I don't think you understand the significance of being required to show proof of death to SE; nor what SE would have to go through to verify actual authenticity. I did not imply is it a "massive" thing - only that you would be overtime only reduce what some believe is a already scarce supply of housing. I've already presented you with a way to provide a current persistent memorial for the deceased for your loved ones that is not a detriment to others. A situation arose and I was offering a solution that does not create another problem for multiple parties.
Otherwise...imagine if all the larges in wards were memorials?
