Returning player! What should be my first order of business?

Other than maybe finding an LS and grabbing Gobbue. I'm level 32 and haven't played since it stopped going FREE.

Whats some fun stuff? I heard i have a room where I can watch cutscenes, but I tried to find it and apparently it's only the back door (in Udal) ;_; so no luck there.

Catch up on your Grand Company quests. Do XP parties. Take up a craft and play the market. Do sidequests. Unlock Monk.

The room you're hearing about is the Inn. Everyone can rest in the Inn in any of the major cities and accumulate a 50% xp bonus over time (offline time included if you log there). There's also a journal of your quests there called "The Unending Journey" that lets you replay cutscenes and a place to store one-time-only gear like AF armor.

First thing I did was catch on Grand Company quests so I could get my chocobo. They're easy but require travelling to far off places, and kill easy mobs. At least one of them require a duo through a dungeon I think.

Also i'd recommend trying to finish the Main story line (since it will be disappearing by 2.0) Including Grand company quests

And if you like achivements perhaps try to find some folks in your LS or a group to try and get all they Aetherytes and nodes so you can get that achivement before its no longer attainable in 2.0

Oh and per the news, Lvl to 30 and try and grab your Gobbue

Yoshi-P did mention we wanted to give us a list of disappearing achivements/obtainables for 1.XX version. I'd recommend keeping an eye out for that if you want to nab any of those.

TL;DR, Try and finish all the stuff that won't be there any longer while you can. Would be a shame to miss out on the story line

No, but seriously, figure out what job you inevitably want to play. Level up the matching classes and learn about the world. Let your adventure unravel from there.

As some may said already, first do the quest for inn rooms, catch up on main story quest, make an alliance, level up your favorite class to 50 and the sub classes that the respective job needs, check point allotment as it is now, if you didnt play at all you might have the option to customize from 0, do the low level ifrit quest, unlock toto rak, so you can farm gear for your level.

Get your mounts, the easiest is the gobbue and its limited, so get asap, you can find the guy in camp bloodshore in a tent, get your chocobo too, but to be honest theres too much stuff to do that you'll have a lot to do until 2.0 release.

Ok, I was in the same boat you are 3 weeks ago. There are loads of Noob friendly LS's recruiting and running end game content to boot. (Believe you me, when you come back you are more or less a noob again).

First, on crafting 90% of the mats you probably gathered before leaving are now only used to make "Dated" gear, and most of your gear is also probably dated as well. The upshot is that most of the "Dated" gear is Optimal level as opposed to the now more prevalent Required level and the stats are not much worse and some are better.

Second, run around the towns and gather lots of the little quests. Most reward with semi-level appropriate gear and an ok amount of gil. A lot of them are very easy to do but require a bit of a long run.

Third Grand Companies. This bit is the bread and butter right now. You are over level to start so this won't be an issue.
They are located at the Market Wards in each of the capitols. It doesn't matter which one you choose to start with because as it turns out you will have to do all of the starter quests and become a "Recruit" of each of them before you can enlist formally in one of them. The UPSHOT of this is that you get ~750 seals from each one, which is enough for a decent mid-level body piece. Which ever one you do pick to go ahead with will have a level 25 quest for you. Make sure you check some of the quest logs as they will /require/ a party to do them. Especially the ones with the capitol names in (). These babies are worth 1k seals.
Next upshot is save 2k-3k(?) (cannot remember the exact amount) seals for your chocobo license. Then you will have a mount to run around and it saves you a lot of time and the 800gil rental fee.

That right there should take you a bit and get you use to the game again.

oh and before i forget you can now hire a second retainer. Good info for all the old mats you have and anything else you want to sell.

Next Spirit Bond (SB) your gear will now "tune" to you. There is a quest you can look up on line (just google Materia quest FFXIV). It gets you the ability to turn SB items into materia. There are also 2 other quests there one for level 18+ Gathering classes, and level 18+ crafters. These allow you to bond materia onto gear. There are good guides for this on the loadstone and online.

And finally as i need to run atm.. there are Jobs now. These are unlocked by quest. They require the main class be 30 and a second be at least 15. There is a good guide for this also on the Lodestone.

I do have one question though. I heard you can now search through player's bazaars sorta like you would with an Auction House. How do I go about doing this? Do I have to be in the Market Wards?

When you go to the market area there will be "wards" named for the 3 cities. From there you can search an item from all retainers in that city market area. Unfortunately due to the current codeing they cant bundle all 3 into one, but its still helpful since you can access any/all of those 3 wards from any city.

of the 4 NPCs in there, 2 are for player markets. Talk to them an a search box will be located above the category list. ^^

Ah, good stuff, just what I was looking for. Thanks a lot! I guess I'll go check it out later.

My suggestions are as follows:

1) Get your room at the Inn:
Sleeping at the Inn will grant you a bonus to XP earned. This will help you a fair bit during your levelling. Also this quest can be done easily at low levels as there is no combat involved, nor do you even have to leave the city.

2) Progress through the Main Story line until you get to the Grand Company stage.
The main story line is interesting, fun, and gives you a LOT of XP which will help you level.

3) Progress through the Grand Company quests as you can:
They allow you to buy a Chocobo.
They unlock Ifrit, Moogle, and Garuda Battles.
The quests themselves are interesting and fun!

4) When you reach a stage in the quests that you can not progress further in you level, choose one class/job as your main and start levelling that. This will allow you enjoy more content.

5) When you reach the point you can start switching to a Job, do the AF quests.

If all goes well, when you reach level 50 you will have:
Full AF for that Job.
Baby Ifrit, Baby Garuda completed.
High rank in the GC (Maybe not lieutenant, but Sergeant).
Finished main story line.

You are now at a very good point to work on secondary jobs, or DoL/DoH or focus on end game content. Although many would suggest a DoL/DoH to help fill up your coffers.

Side Note: Levelling 0-30 with levequests is fast and should get you about 500-600k in Gil which is good ^.^

First order of business?

Buy A subligar and run around town wearing only that yelling about how Moogles have invaded your inn room and stolen all of your gear.

Then /dance near people who are crafting or gathered together for a group until they teleport away.

Wait till 2.0

Step 2. Wait for 2.0

Make ton of friends, don't be needy, whiney, and entitled or you will end up like alot of people in this forum whining they can't get a party and do nto have friends to do stuff with.

as much as you might hate few aspects of the game, it will be much more fun and suddenly become bearable with friends.

You'll need to make sure you've gotten past the first few main storyline quests, and then the inn quests will be available in the adventurer's guild. They're very short and easy.

Find a linkshell that is filled with people you enjoy playing with. You're in for a long and sometimes very boring ride, luckily friends make it bearable.
