I'm looking for tips of gear for armor to wear at endgame better than the AF. Currently I'm wearing the Flame Sergeant's Tabard and working on getting Flame Sergeant's Hose. Any other good pieces of equipment I should know about?

I use:
Ifrit's Claws
Temple Gloves
Darklight Caligae
Darklight Eyepatch
Darklight Corslet
Felt Trousers 2x meld 13 str 15 vit
Boarskin Belt 1x melt 13 crit
Explorer earing
Electrum Gorget +1
Rubellite Bracelets +1
2x Rubellite Ring +1
I parse 100-110dps on MM with all abilities on cooldown using this set.
(this is from our under 17 min AV runs where I change to monk after we spawn MM)
^ Don't pay attention to what she said. It's all extremely rare gear that you have to give your life up just to get.
Anything that boosts a MNK's primary stats (INT and STR) and gives attack power, crit attack power, etc is good.
Rainmaker's Tunic
Felt Khecks
Felt Trousers
Fingerless raptorskin gloves of slaying
Caligea
...You get the picture lol. Just if you use crafted gear, apply some materia. And the gear from the Grand Company's is really good for what it's worth and the extra stats you get. Plus the new GC weapons we will be getting next patch will be almost just as good as primal weapons.
Holy balls! 100-110 DPS in a Corslet? You're making me ashamed to be a monk. I pull 120 in sub-par gear.Quote:

What DeadRiser said is pretty solid advice. Aim to get STR around 350, and INT 310 then go Attk/Crit Attk. where able.
Legs/Gloves are easy places to stack STR materias, and head is probably your best source of INT (AF head is a pretty good piece there, TBH) for entry into endgame.
Pick up a pair of Flame Sergeant's Patas, providing you can keep Sanction up, they're better then Ifrits and will activate the (3) set bonus on your body, which is pretty nice for UD.
I like how people are told to ignore the best gear because it's rare.
No, usually people ask this question because they are at, or close to our current endgame. Why would they bring themselves in one of these dungeons to get the best gear (even though it's a lifelong grind) with nothing on?
Do you people think about what you say? Just because YOU have the time to farm these dungeons, doesn't mean everyone else does and telling them all your rare drops isn't going to do much.
I also like how poorly geared players try and justify why they won't try to get darklight.
So I guess I'll take that as a personal attack? I'm a full time college student with a part time job. I do what I can with the time I have. I like to think my grand company gear and my primal weapons are pretty damn good. Also have a couple of double melded gear that I made myself with the little gil that I had.
I'm not justifying why she shouldn't try to get darklight, I'm saying that there's no point since few people even have a peice of darklight, let a lone a full set. So instead of attacking me, why don't you contribute to the thread?
This is what you wrote. You basically called him no lifers for having darklight pieces. That statement is very ignorant and dumb.
Also to stay on thread, OP you may want to work on stuff like below if you thinks Darklight Pieces are not worth the effort (they are still one of the best though),
Double/Triple STR gloves,
Double STR Legs,
Double/Triple Crit attack body piece,
AF head is decent i guess, INT doesn't do all that much but double/triple INT you can strive for it but definitely in the lowest priority,
Not much choice in feet, AF feet is ok until you get Darklight Caligae.
No, but it's fact that you have to spend every minute you can farming the dungeons for a retarded drop rate... So in essense I did say he had no life. But it's the truth and y'all know it lol. Just because I don't have the stupid rare equipment doesn't make me poorly geared.
I've seen the kinda gear you use. I stand by my statement.
Thanks for the replies people. Perhaps I wasn't clear in my request, I'm looking for short-term gear so I can do dungeons for the long-term one so I appreciate all responses.
Good information. I use a lot of the Storm GC gear at the moment as it provides some nice stats with set bonus for people who don't have Darklight like myself. As for the Darklight gear, it'd be nice to have but since it's like winning the lottery to get.
In addition, like 95% of the people playing who go for Darklight are the type who want optimal, as easy as possible runs with no room for taking people like myself who dislike playing ranged/magic classes and don't want to be forced to play a class for a speed run. I want the gear for the class I enjoy playing (Monk), yet to get it you have to basically devote yourself to being a BLM/WHM/BRD or a tank for "speed runs".
So I accept that I'll probably never have it. Because playing classes I hate isn't fun to me. And I'm playing the game for the expressed purpose of having fun. :/
My group used Monk as the primary DD for Mistress.
Actually, it's the best way to sub 17 AV is to burn with monks.
Dated Leather Espadrilles.
As a person who only has darklight hands, never seen the other pieces ever drop before (Done dungeons 450+ times), I disagree with you. What Amanda put in is a goal you need to aim for, because it is technically the best rare/ex. gear in the game, and what you need to make a top of the line Monk. Even with a tight schedule, making room for 1-2 dungeon runs still gets you the chance of the gear.
What you mostly refer to is a starter setup or an alternative gear set if you do not own Darklight.
Blah Blah Blah is all i'm reading pretty much , the game's algorithm is so screwed up at the moment you'll get pretty much the same results no matter how much of the "best" gear you have, i've sometimes pulled in on a crit on moogles over 1k on the king (i use mnk af+ GC weapons) , meanwhile another mnk using avengers triple melded str tier IV + 3 pieces of darklight crited under 1k , then sometimes i'd crit under 1k and he'd crit over 1k , so really all this back n forth yippy yapping is pretty much pointless till 2.0, when the code is greatly improved and stats actually do what they're supposed to do, so basically if you can go for darklight stuff by all means go ahead and go for it , and if you cant or wont go after darklight for whatever the reason, mnk af or melded gear works too. As long as you aren't butt naked and you are using 45+ gear i dont see a problem. (if any of you feel insulted by my comment please take that feeling and slap yourself with it , it wont do any good here)
of course but not by a lot , if the stats would work how they were meant to work then i agree melded + darklight would have a big advantage over avg gear , but you need either really deep pockets or a heck of a lot of time to get both i really dont see the need to after it, but thats just me, by all means feel free to drop 4-5 mil a piece or spend 4-5 months getting a single piece of gear.
yeah 80 DPS and 120 DPS is the same :)
While I don't main MNK, I have single slotted materia gear on it, good enough to take down MM (Going to improve it to get 17 minute speed run), a MNK I played with who did have double/triple melded gear on his Monk had dramatically higher DPS than me according to the parser.
If all MNK's were like him, Mizer would go down without phase 1 even ending. So yes, getting your stats in is a major thing.
Before then I could of semi-agreed with you before they fixed the Critical Rate/Attack, which really has an effect now when stacked. On my DRG, I have Critical Attack placed in many areas along with STR/PIE, and my DPS was dramatically higher. Pulling easy 1k+ Doomspikes on Princess in CC.
For jobs like DRG and WAR, it was hard to tell much DPS before because Crit wasn't working the way it should and they didn't base themselves off burst damage like MNK and BLM did. Maybe this is where you are coming from. But ever since the fix, it is pretty ignorant to say that gear doesn't matter.
I am using grand company flame belt body and wrist for 3way gear bonus. 42strength on gloves darklight eyepatch. Af boots.
I'm not interested in doing dungeons (speedruns) , primal fights or top tier gear at all at least until 2.0 comes out and everything works as it should besides why bother getting top tier gear now when its all going to be outdated come 2.0? , i'm more interested in getting everything to 50, and so what if some ppl carry my weight at one point or another i'll be carrying someone else's weight , nor will i have a problem with it like you do, what everyone seems to forget is that your own weight got carried by someone else at one point in your gaming life. :) /bows
You shouldn't be playing MMO's then if this is how you think, gear will always get outdated. The difference between us and you is we seek to improve ourselves so we are not considered a burden to the party. You seem pretty content on being the burden of the party and I feel sorry for those who have to carry your weight.
Also, haven't done any of that stuff? No wonder why you don't think gear is important.
Seriously? That is one of the worst philosophies a MMO player could have. You work to contribute the most to your team, not to carry them or be carried by them. That is what team is all about. If you really think you'll "owe" getting Darklight gear to the 7 other people in your party more than yourself then you got some major self-image problem or you realize you're not pulling your own weight. Probably not worth saying much more than that at this point.
Some of the darklight is pretty sweet for monk though the corselet remains a distant dream for me. I use the eyepatch and calligae but don't wear the gloves. Having a friendly crafter make things go kaboom for a while until you get the gear you want is pretty much the best way to go now. Unless you have that spiffy +120 crit att body from grid. Double melded gloves and felt trousers are obvious choices. For the bodypiece I was using the storm sergeants tabard but I've switched to the gryphonskin tunic double melded with crit attack now. It's a relatively inexpensive piece to have made and melded, mine cost me 360k in mats so having one or two go kaboom before success shouldn't be too painful.
Lol you people don't understand what i'm saying, what i'm saying is that i dont see a point in getting gear until 2.0 and beyond , any gear that you get now is going to get outdated m and so what if you think that my way of playing is the worst i play my own way you don't like it too bad by all means come and comment on how bad my play style is you're just making me lol more with each one of your comments :) and looks like i hit a little nerve with my last comment if i did that proves my point that you did get carried at one point in your gaming life.
Velhart , reread my comment and stop seeing it as an insult and try to make sense of it , my message is in just half the message the top half right up to 2.0? , the bottom half is just filler because its a fact that everyone at their gaming life got carried by someone else to not acknowledge that is ignorant , its not like you started a character on here with all garuda, moogle and ifrit weapons and full darklight.
then whats the point in playing, just wait 2.0 lol
