Experiencing what seems to be a memory leak due to 6.35 update

No issues with CPU usage prior to 6.35, but have been experiencing consistent spikes leading to crashes and/or incredible rubber-banding every time I participate in content. I uninstalled and reinstalled with no effect.

Have been doing things which won't inconvenience anyone if I crash because of this and the game seems to be doing fine, so whatever is happening seems to be limited to instanced content.

EDIT: It has happened during crafting now, so unfortunately that's not the case lol. However, just heard from people who updated their NVIDIA drivers and it helped them. Trying their hotfix apparently for this very issue released earlier today now.

EDIT: Drivers updated, game rubber-banded and CPU spiked while opening a menu so there's that. Didn't crash, though! Will try content in a moment.

EDIT, once more: Stuttery, freezes for about five seconds before resuming during CPU spikes.

EDIT, again: Still crashing after the hotfix.

I'd like to start off by confirming if there have been any updates or changes made recently to the PC? Also, have you tried playing the game in different modes such as full screen, borderless, or windowed? If you haven't, I would recommend trying out these three modes and seeing if the error persists or occurs more frequently on one or the other.

Additionally, could you please provide us with a System Report? You can locate your System Report within the FINAL FANTASY XIV launcher. Once there, click on the 'Config' option (with a gear symbol). To the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display' and it will then provide you with a System Report for your device.

There have not been any updates or changes made recently to the PC besides that mentioned above, the NVIDIA hotfix.

A correction to my earlier post. The memory is spiking, not the CPU. These spikes up to 100% of my memory are causing either, and this is revealing my lack of terminology knowledge, the ‘full’ crashes where I have no option but to close the game and the ‘partial’ crashes where the screen goes into the white ‘we have a problem’ mode and I wait and hope the world suddenly rubber-bands around me until I can start playing again.

I usually play in windowed mode. Trying other modes, the game ‘partially’ crashed during content in borderless as well as full-screen, both with similar levels of severity in which I couldn’t interact with the game for about 10 to 15 seconds at a time. This is consistent with what I experienced in windowed mode over the past few days.

EDIT: Just tried playing the game again and crashed to desktop. Doing anything instanced with other people seems to be impossible.

I am also having the exact same issue, huge memory leaks since 6.35.

Game launches and plays fine for variable amounts of time, then freezes and has a 50/50 chance of crashing.

I had recently updated my NVIDIA drivers, and have applied their latest hotfix as well, and am still experiencing the issue.

I have changed no other settings, my FPS has always been limited to 60. Seems to happen in all areas not just in well populated instances. Have had crashes in the Forgotten Knight inn room, my personal housing, and Radz-at-Han.

Edit to add: this does not happen with any other game. I regularly play high-resource games on my PC (TS4, raiding in WoW, GW2 etc) and have no problem with any of them, it only occurs in FFXIV.

I've had this issue as well. It started back in 6.3 and the first Hotfix maint resolved the issue. It reappeared again with 6.35 and has persisted since then. Both of these times Square decided to alter the way network stuff is done and it's caused FFXIV to needlessly hog all of my memory as the attached photo shows. There is ABSOLUTELY NO REASON for it to use 24.7GB of memory. I've also had periodic issues where it uses 99% of my memory and my game freezes for upwards of 30-45 seconds, if not longer. I've had my penalty count increase multiple times since the patch dropped because the game was frozen and crashing. This has happened in-content too where I'll just appear to be standing still for everyone else with no indication of something like a disconnect or the like and has made doing content a risk. I've lost more than one attempts of soloing the new deep dungeon due to this issue as well, making the game quite literally impossible to enjoy as there is no rhyme or reason for when the game decides to go haywire and do this. Not to mention the frequent random 90k's that this change has also brought. The fact that this hasn't been addressed at all is absurd and disappointing, alongside the insistence by Square to permit this to be re-introduced, and stand, after the drastic failure that occurred prior with 6.3's release. I plead Square to reverse this and never bring it back lest I cannot reasonably enjoy engaging with nearly any content in this game with the threat that I am rendered useless as at present I'm (even more) of a walking liability. Any amount of communication on this would be appreciated but the reversal of these changes are essentially requisite to ensure any sort of stability when attempting to enjoy this game.

I've been having this issue, too. The first time was with the last major patch, and now this. There's no rhyme or reason for it, and no warning that it will happen. Time seems to be a bit of a factor, as I mostly return from doing something else and find the game frozen and crashing, and I've crashed during several cutscenes, but none of these are guaranteed triggers. And unlike others here, there's no waiting for it. Once it starts, it's over.

I've been lulled into a false sense of security several times, and...well...eh. My "solution" has been to exit the game altogether after 45-60 minutes and logging back in.

With the last patch, I wasn't too bothered. It happens, ya know? But now, for the second time? And here with me making the last push in CC to get these rewards, too. I don't want to be known as a thrower. At least having to restart the game while in a dungeon, while potentially disastrous, isn't' usually too much of an issue.

With all that said, every other game on my PC works fine. I've had no major hardware or software updates. I only have this.


Edit: So, I decided to push my luck. Opened the game, logged in, immediately queue for CC. Crashed 20 seconds into the match. After waiting for the option to close the game, reopening the launcher, watching the title screens, logging on, and waiting in the queue, I loaded in to watch my team lose.

A crash for every duty. A crash for a certain duration of cutscenes watched. I have crafting to do, but I don't want to lose materials. I'm skipping raids this week again.

As I type this, the game is running in the background. I'm at my preferred loitering spot in Ul'dah. The game crashes.

I can't believe I'm going to say this unironically, but...this game? Literally Unplayable.*

Same issues for me since the patch dropped, the only other time I had the problem was on 6.3 Patch. And they went away once they reverted the network change introduced then.

I've sent a report in game, didn't get a real answer, just to try on weekdays with tech support, that I will do once I am able to.

I've reinstalled and tried different versions of my graphic drivers, restored game files, my computer doesn't show any kind of problems with any other game or program. My hardware or game files doesn't seem to be the problem. Yet there's not even an acknowledgement of these issues after almost a week since patch day. If you're looking into it would be nice to at least know instead of being left in the dark after losing a week of paid game time filled with frustration and lost progress due to constant client crashes.

I've been having the same issues as well, as I did back in 6.3 before the hotfix. I've done pretty much every quick fix that's been suggested, both in-game and out of it. The only common throughline I've noticed is that my game locks up significantly more on my home DC of Crystal, while it happens almost never when I'm visiting Primal to raid with my main static. It may lock-up and then recover maybe once or twice in a two hour raid session on Primal, while on Crystal in a 90m raid session my game would lock up or die once or twice a pull.
