Remember when we had 4 eureka zones for relic steps and everyone complained and hated it and said they wanted the old tomestone grinds back from Heavensward?
Remember when we had to do 15 DR and people just wanted their old content crystal tower farms back?
So now SE is letting people do whatever content they want as long as it gives the tomestones.
Tbh people asked for boring old content and they got it. It’s the people attacking eureka as a concept that got us here so I hope they enjoy it.
Relic steps have always been boring to the point where it seems to be the design intent. ARR books made me wish to never do an ARR relic ever again. 15 times circus tower? Not exactly the most exciting. 18 times each rabanastre and void ark? Oof. 15 times delubrum? Literal hell.
Is it causality or astronomy?

But frankly speaking, people have complained ceaselessly about the method by which you need to do the relic.
- They complained about books in ARR
- They complained about FATEs in HW
- They complained about Eureka in SB, granted it was mostly a you have to do Eureka, and Eureka alone if you wanted it.
- They complained about needing to do CLL, DR, and Dalriada, and complain you needed to do them especially to progress relic. They also complained that we had FATEs still, and complained about the one-time only 24-man raid farms.
As far as they're concerned, the best way to address this was to simply attach it to tomestones, which doesn't care about the 'how' - Again, I personally don't like it, but historically the community has only complained, and complained about the 'how'.
I'll personally take grinding tomestones over the hell that was ShB. ShB relics were the first relics I did. And after completing every jobs relics (which took til EW), I was so burnt out of the game I took a year off.
Maybe some people liked having to farm 60 fates, 32 alliance raids, 15 delubrums, finishing both bozja zones and farming the end game raid for both of those countless times. But I didn't.
They had to nerf the ShB relics so many times from complaints, I'm not at all surprised they said "meh, whatever" this time.
The sad thing is that it introduced no new content to the game.
People like myself wanted a grind, a reason to actually log in before the next savage tier.
And we got.. 3 quests and a tomestone hand in. Where we would normally get a nice little time sink grind.
Its just lazy development.
Honestly, the playerbase asked for this, and the devs obliged.
I love Eureka as a zone, and genuinely believe Bozja was a step down in quality in most places. The ARR and HW relics were a boring grind, so the devs likely decided "Not worth it, just do tomestones, that way everyone's happy", and considered it a day.
Anyone know the new ilvl for the new "relic"?
That being said though, these relics will act as poetics sinks after Endwalker, and if you spend any noticeable time in Eureka, you'll earn those by the thousands. Once you've done all the Anima relics and gotten the Powder for the Shb relics, there isn't really that much worth getting with them.
Not that I disagree, but in the same vein, this 'newer' content does equally need to innovate in some way, shape, or form. Otherwise, it's just the same mundane thing. Personally, I would have preferred a shift in the older direction of ARR for the relics, simply because it had me doing a vast amount of content in the game, sure the books were a pain in the neck, but they were still pretty diverse.
If I'm honest, I wouldn't have liked to have seen a third expansion with exploratory content if they weren't going to be able to innovate on it, I've already done all the relics from the past 2 expansions of this, and I certainly don't want it to be the third, if it is just the same. I also do think it would have been nice to have these relics tie into the criterion dungeons in some way, shape, or form.
I do sympathize with some people in here, I genuinely do, but again, this is what happens when all iterations of the relics get tears and salt, ceaselessly. -> This is a 'grind' wherein it gets reduced to the most basic form possible so that people can just effectively do what they want to obtain the tomes.
It's a shame that this is the next step. I mean the instant fight was fun and I normally hate playing another class/character. Would it hurt to create a new trial and kill it X times for an item at the very least.
Next step will be a grid just wait and see.
Welp going back to sleep this was deff not worth the wait. Never in final fantasy history have i seen a relic weapon that took 10 mins to do. Should honestly do away with the title of relic just call these tome stone weapons atp
I'm glad they aren't going with grinding Fates or gather X items. I hoped for being the EW relics more like HW. So it's fine for me. I just don't get why the relic quest is always soooo late in the XPac. The new deep dungeon comes pretty late too.
Uhm and why we are getting just one dungeon per patch cycle? For quests like that?
Does anyone have pictures from the relics already? I'm mostly interested in reaper and sage.
So, we're literally just repeating the same step? Really? We've gotten to this level of making things as simple as possible that we're just doing the exact same thing we did in the first step? I'd rather have CT spam.
This actually makes me a little irritated and I question what the devs have been doing. It's fair to blame it on 16 taking up dev time but then personally they should be trying to hire more people to pick up the slack because it's not really fair to those of us who want a deeper experience with the game. Endwalker so far has been a disappointment and it upsets me to say that because I genuinely love this game. Lately though, it just feels like nothing really has much purpose to it and I don't get that same sense of achievement that I used to when completing content. It all just feels very surface and barebones and sad compared to previous expansions.
I was honestly excited to log in early and start doing the new content but now that it can be completed in literally 30m-1h (doing the deep dungeon in the afternoon with my quartet), I don't see a point.

And here I was thinking they'd force us to run like 15 Variant dungeons or something in some desperate attempt to keep them relevant.
Really sad. I finished my first ARR Relic last weekend, and it was actually a lot of fun being forced to do a wide variety of content.
It was a bit uncomfortable at the time, but that was just because I felt rushed due to having a busy week ahead of me and knowing that a lot of new content was coming out.
Whole expansion gives WoW vibes. Classes suck and have turned full braindead, relic grind is now complete braindead, its just insane. What are the devs doing with all those millions they are swimming in?
