Dualshock Edge on FFXIV

I am having major issues using the DualSense Edge (Playstations version of a Pro/Elite controller) on PC with FFXIV.

I am using the raw client, NOT going through Steam. However, Steam does recognize the controller and all inputs are as normal. (Even changing button profiles with the function keys, Steam will recognize the under-paddles as the inputs I set them on the PS5's setup.)

I've used controller for combat since playing this back in the PS3 days 9 years ago. My Xbox Elite Series 2 controller has seen better days and some of it's buttons aren't working the way they used to so I got an Edge, instead. I also now have a PS5 so, that was a must.

What is actually happening with FFXIV and this controller is... the game is NOT recognizing the right buttons at all. The X button is registering as Triangle. The O button is registering as X. Triangle is registering as O. Square is Square by some magic. The joysticks are proper, but you go to click in them to use L3 and R3, and they register as Start and Select. Funnily enough, Start and Select are registering as L3 and R3.

Going into Calibrate in System Config, I cannot go through the Calibrate steps. It won't let me. Physically remapping everything in button config would completely defeat the purpose of a 200 dollar controller just working properly in the first place.

And to note, a REGULAR DualShock PS5 controller works just fine on this game. I just want to be able to use my Edge so I can set trigger pull, stick sensitivity and under-paddle buttons. Ya know... what you pay premium money for in the first place.

Again, for whatever reason, FFXIV is the ONLY game on my PC that is doing this. FFXIV even recognizes this controller as an Edge. I have turned on PS5 button layouts and everything... and nothing properly allows me to use this controller as intended with FFXIV.

EDIT: So a fix was shared on Redit. Samaiya shared the post on Page 2. Essentially you have to go into your FFXIV Config file which you find in the "My Documents" files, not the actual game folder. Open the file in Notepad and adjust the Alias line.

Do note, that you must have most recently plugged the DualSense Edge in in order for the Alias portion to show up as the "messed up Alias." I had checked this file myself while having a regular DualSense in, and all the numbers were what they were supposed to be. Only while you have the game running and the DualSense Edge plugged in, will you see the bad Alias numbers that need to be corrected.

While this is not the answer you're likely to want to hear, it's about what you'd expect: Same problem here. My guess is that SE expected the button mappings to be identical, and Sony swapped them around for whatever reason when adding the back buttons.

Hopefully someone will see this and figure out an easy remap option. I've also heard there is a program on steam that will [for $5.00] let you remap the DS5e buttons. I have not confirmed.

I do apologize for this issue regarding the PlayStation 5 DualSense Edge controller not properly mapping in Final Fantasy XIV. Just to gather more information, is the controller fully synced via Bluetooth or wired cable? Has any other controller given you a problem for Final Fantasy XIV? I'd also like to ask if you are able to fully update the drivers for the controller in question? Lastly, have you tried recalibrating or adjusting the controller via Windows settings as well? Hello Eenkalzet. I'm not OP but I can answer these questions. The result is the same whether wired/wireless. The controller is up to date. The controller uses a different button mapping versus the original Dualsense. FFXIV does not recognize this controller as a Dualsense.
The controller would need to be mapped using the ini file as the game does not recognize the inputs when in the reconfiguration menu. Hope this answers and helps with possibly leading to an update to allow use of this controller on Windows with this game!

The Dualsense Edge requires an updated version of the library for PC games, SE have probably not updated it yet.

I just bought a new weird control its not a massviely expensive one just a GIOTECK VX4 i've used this brand before with no issues but this control has the same mapping and calibration problems as OP.... was there a solution?

I'm having the same problem with the DualSense Edge as op. I checked everything I could but I have noticed that for some reason in win11 the controller is listed under audio devices? Dunno what that's about but in game it works except for the buttons being wrong. Triangle is Circle, Circle is X, X is Triangle but Square is Square though. Also R3 is swapped with the options button and L3 is swapped with the share button. I checked in Steam and the buttons works correctly in Steam but I have the normal non steam client where it acts weird. Hope it gets fixed soon c:

Just got and edge and works perfect on PS5 but for ffxiv on PC I have the exact same issue as OP. Funny thing is that the game recognizes the edge by name yet you cant calibrate it at all. Just doesnt work. Hope they fix this soon.

I'm needing to get a new controller and considering getting an Edge, is anyone still experiencing any issues with it or have they been fixed?

I would like to bump this thread up again. Been a few months and still, there is no official support for the Dualsense Edge. Tried around today with all kinds of stuff (wireless and wired). Regular Dualsense controllers have this wonderful haptic feedback. But the Edge? Nothing of that kind.
Can we at some point expect the Dualsense and its counterpart the Dualsense Edge to support all the features it has via Wireless?
I would be more than happy to keep using a cable if the Dualsense Edge had all features enabled at least. Strangely enough, the touchpad also is considered a single button instead of two natively. There is just so much that feels wrong :(

And yes, I know for normal gameplay, I could just use Steam Input. But that is not the point of what I had in mind. Besides that for some reason, I get nearly 0 vibration from the controller as feedback, even with Steam Input.

My apologies. I honestly fell away from playing the game for quite some time due to in life reasons and whatnot.

When I use the Dualshock Edge, it is always plugged in via a wire. The same USB-C to USB-C cable that plugs in a regular Dualshock 5 Controller that works perfectly. The Dualshock Edge STILL, to this day, does not work on FFXIV. I would go through the trouble of mapping it properly on the PS5 then using the custom button layout, but some of the buttons that are wrong aren't re-mappable.

This is the ONLY game on my PC that I cannot use my $200 controller on. And this is an actual SONY Playstation Dualshock Edge controller... not a 3rd party Scuff. I have done everything in an attempt to get this to work for I really enjoyed having the underbuttons on my Xbox Elite Series 2 controller... but nothing works. I use controller for combat only, so having the extra buttons helps a lot. But I've been using a regular Dualshock 5 and holding it awkwardly just to do certain things. :/

Edit: To further demonstrate just how messed up this is... I can go into Calibrate Controller ingame... before actually hitting Calibrate, you can see all the button inputs are functioning with errors... but the moment you actually hit the Calibrate button, all input goes dead entirely. And it really is hilarious that FFXIV sees the controller BY NAME. It sees it as a DuelSense Edge Wirless Controller... I'm using it WIRED right now... but still. This is just really annoying.

EDIT 2: And using Samaiya's fix she posted from Redit has worked. As a side-note... you have to first plugin the DuelSense Edge controller before attempting to modify this Config. I had a regular DuelSense plugged in at first and the Alias was just fine... but the moment I plugged in the Edge, quite a few of the numbers were off and backwards. So this definitely fixed it. Amazing how this controller has been out a year and still isn't getting official fixes yet. But hey, that's above my paygrade.
