Giving up your plot should be easy and not be too restrictive

I just relinqused my (17 mil) house today because i wanted to unsub and take a break from the game. my options of getting rid of my house was:

• Give up 80% of the plot and keep furniture.

• Wait 45 days for it to auto demo and resub to log in within 35 days after that to get 80% of the plot back + my furniture.

• Don't log in let it auto demolish and don't claim anything within that time window.

I don't understand why all these options have to suck that much when people still want houses and they encourage people to take breaks from the game.

It feels bad! But I've come to terms with it but I hope this changes going forward and I don't want to see these conditions going into other aspects of the game.

Was this plot owned by your character on Moogle...?

You can remove all the furniture before quitting and just leave the house empty. If you happen to resub soon after it's auto-demolished, you get some money back. If you don't, you lose the money you would have lost anyway by manually demolishing.

To sell your plot so you can get 80% of the plot value back

Having to wait 45 days and sub seem excessive no?

That's something I've brought up in the distant past. SE should give players an incentive to voluntarily relinquish a house they are no longer interested in owning to free the plots up for players who are still trying to get a house.

At the time, the typical response was "that would just make things even more profitable for the house flippers" since this was when there was no lottery and relocation bypassed the purchase timer.

Now that the lottery prevents that sort of activity (other than selling FC with house outright), it may be a good time for SE to revisit whether someone voluntarily relinquishing a house should get the same 80% back as those who have their house auto-demolished. The current policy of no refund encourages players to hold onto plots they don't want because they've already paid for it, or at the very least hold onto it for the additional 45 days to get the refund instead of getting it back into the supply for the next lottery period.

On the other hand, making it too cheap to buy and demolish a house could lead to people buying one just because it costs them nearly nothing in the end. People get 50% of the cost back if they win the lottery without finalizing, which is a bigger loss than taking the house and waiting 45 days for 80%. In my opinion 50% would be a fair amount for both auto-demolish and manual demolish. Then people wouldn't benefit from buying a house or keeping it for 45 days, but they would still get something back for giving up the house.

Also, Hondurez, if your house was on the Moogle server like your forum avatar is, there is no auto-demolish on EU servers right now.

Already got rid of it and wikis for housing I read had nothing about auto demo not being enabled for my server either way would be annoying having to have that in the back of my head that it might be enabled at some time.

Im actually curious how they can make housing feels so good but getting one and selling one feel so toxic.

they enabled it then paused it a few weeks ago because the Turkey Earthquake. Unfortunately it sucks because you could have unsubscribed for a year or more and it would have been fine /o\

Players are already buying houses because it costs them nearly nothing. It's not going to make things even worse.

If the supply was adequate in the first place, players wouldn't be afraid to give up a house because they could get another later without problem. They also wouldn't be in a rush to buy.

It wouldn't be a gil sink if you could get your gil back...

It hasn't been much of a gil sink since 2017 at the latest.

Yet SE gives players some of the gil back when a house is demo'd, or when the player transfers to a New world, or from a Congested world to a Preferred world, or discounts the purchase price when relocating...

Decorating ends up a far more effective gil sink. So many items that tend to be used as base decorating components like the partitions but can only be purchased from vendors. A lot of times we have to vendor the ones we were using but no longer need to make room for new items just to have to rebuy them later when we redecorate yet again.

I would hope that improving player access to content is more of a concern to SE than gil sinks. If they're really worried about gil sinks, they should remove some of the ways players have to avoid them (like the Aetheryte tickets) or increase prices on higher level items.

If SE wanted it to be a gil sink, they'd make the lottery tickets non-refundable. Charge maybe 10-15% of the cost of the plot for a ticket, but non-refundable.

All it does is let players who are going to wait on auto-demo to just do it earlier and let the house be put back on the market earlier. It's the same outcome but happens 45 days sooner so I don't see why it shouldn't be an option to just manually demo the house and get back the same things as if you were going to wait on it to auto-demo.

Well the 45 days isn't the problem but if you think about it auto demo has not be on for almost a year. How do you let a house auto demolish in that case? Demolishing willfully should give you the same benefits as an auto demolish given it's off more than it's on..

You could just maybe give Tenant Rights to a friend or someone within your FC who needs or was looking for a house to stay in. And take a break. Keep your plot. And cancel your sub. That way the house does not get Auto Demolished so long as they are active and using something within the plot of land and inside the house. Sounds like a Win win solution if your looking for more options that are not super restrictive.

A tenant entering a private house does not reset the demo timer. Only the owner entering will do it.

Yes... having to buy a handful of 1000 Gil vendor items is surely a better Gil sink than losing 80% of your 3/17/40 Million Gil house.....

20% is not refunded when you allow your house to auto-demo. You get 80% back.

Small amounts paid frequently add up over time. Keep in mind that it doesn't just affect characters that own a house. It affects every character that owns a FC room or apartment as well. Some characters own all three. Players that considers themselves poor are more likely to lean heavily on the vendor for furnishings than go to the marketboard where items are generally going to cost 10-50 times as much.

Is what a single player will spend over time equal to what it costs to buy a mansion? No. But certainly it doesn't take long to exceed the cost of a small house, which is the best most players will ever get because of the much smaller supply of mediums and larges.

If small amounts spent frequently weren't effective at getting people to spend money, F2P games with cash shop microtransactions wouldn't be a thing. Gaming would have kept to pay by the hour or monthly subscriptions.
