Inventory is blowing my brain! SE, make it stop! To the rest of you, help me out!

I need some pro advice. I know some of you have figured out ways around the inventory limitations. Hit me with the ideas. Everything I think of just makes me want to quit the game over how frustrating it would be.

I know I can sell items from my retainer, create another character, trade gil to a friendly player, receive gil from the friendly player on my other character, buy the item for 1 gil off my retainer, then click that item and offer to buy it for 1 gil on my extra character's retainer, then relog, then go to that retainer in another city's wards, unload my inventory on it x10, relog, and repeat the process all over again until I've transfered what I want to transfer. Just typing that makes me want to kill myself. I don't know if I can go through with it. I feel like I'd be paying Square Enix $3 for making me quit the game in frustration.

My retainers are 150/150 with 10 items in bazaar. I am 199/200. I have a lot of gear from AF, alternate sets, rings for every occassion, food for my 3 main jobs, dark matter, some moogle unmarked keystones, and a quest item in my main inventory, along with about 20 slots filled from farming on Botanist.

On my retainers I have gear waiting to be sold, crafting mats for wvr, ltw, seasonal items that can't be stored, and stacks of items gathered in mining and botany, along with items like keeper's hymn, primal totems, primal stones, primal seals, beastcoins, and maybe about 50-60 materia from spiritbonding, and other items gained from farming in various stack sizes. A lot of it has piled up because the wards menus are so slow most of the time I don't bother with it every day because if I were to do so I would want to throw my computer off a very tall building and watch with delight as it exploded on the pavement below.

Is there anything else? Some little trick anyone has learned? No, I can't dual box.

I was awaiting some masochistic suggestion like waiting for a punch in the stomach to land.. and your suggestion was very unexpected.. brought a smile to my face. Lol.

NPC everything that isn't HQ and/or you won't be using right away, store AFs and event items for good and be happy with your 350 slots because 2.0 might be cutting inventory by half. ^^:

Dont worry in 2.0 there will be a delivry system like in FFXI. so my idea is just take a look at what is really useful, keep only +1 Craft material (unless Really Needed) or if you really dont want to wait 2.0, buy ur self a laptop a new FFXIV account so you can directly buy/trade ur stuff with a mule made on ur laptop just for that purpose.

You don't need 2 stacks of moko grass and a +1 marmot meat.

Almost everything is easy to get from at least 1 specific source, get rid of whatever you aren't using in the near future.

Gear takes the longest to sell unless it's some 2x meld stuff. If you need inv space sell mats like ores and logs at a lower price. Throw junk away to the nPC or just to the floor, and turn your spirit bonded gear to materia and sell it that way.

lol I just have nightmares of scouring the wards around launch time looking for gear and running across Retainers named "Magearmor" "Clothgear" "Weavermule" selling nothing but freaking marmot meat and moko grass.

I'm sure you can purge a lot of stuff, lol.

Do you really need rings for every occasion?

If you are holding onto all these mats, why not just go through them? If they have been sitting on a retainer for like 3 months, are they really worth holding onto?

I spring clean on a daily basis.

for af sets and event items you can store them in the armoire in your inn room (they need to be 100%), that will free up some space. And as others have said, a lot of the crap that builds up is easy to obtain if and when you need it, so just npc it or sell it at a good price on the wards.

Third Retainer for Legacy Members Yes PLEASE!

Yea I am guna cry when they half the inventory space in 2.0, I pray that mannequins will remove gear from the inventory.

Not sure if this has been said but you can store AF and Event equipment in your hotel.

According to one of the PDFs that SE put out a good while ago, yes they will.

Also to the OP: Believe me, only store materials that you plan to use for grinding crafts (And even then, store in your own personal inventory so you remember to get to them ASAP) and +1 materials relevant to your interests. Otherwise NPC all of that junk, it's not worth it.
You can also throw your AF armor sets in the Armoire (they need to be at 100%) in your Inn room, also seasonal gear.
Pick and choose your materia, keep for you only what you REALLY plan on using and sell the rest of explode some old gear. Also attempt to have gear that overlaps through your classes, like for example I have only one gearset for all of my DoW as they level.

ya even if you have 99 of mats it doesn't mean they are exactly useful, so just set a threshold for what you find useful.

use www.mooglebox.com to help you out with this, just input the name of the item, see what you can make with it and determine if it's worth holding onto it to make and sell or if it's worth holding onto for a skillup synth. Those are the two basic standards I set myself to when determining what I hold onto it. If I can't use it for skillup or the items it make are useless I'll most likely NPC the materials rather then sell it on the MW. However with the new MW search function I would recommend searching before NPCing to see if you can get a decent amount of gil for it.

While I know this isn't a "popular" method of selling items in terms of other Sellers but when it comes to clearing space if you just want to get rid of the items then undercut and have it leave your hands quicker then selling it for a normal price, but always compare it to the NPC price before doing it. And by compare I mean look at an item if you can NPC for 20k but sell it for 40k then consider if it's worth the time to sell it through the MW to make that extra 20k or if you really need that space.

Storage limitations are why our already full wards are full of retainers with all their items listed at a $999,999,999 sale price.

But to be honest we have more storage than alot of games, but also on that note alot of game dont require so many synth items, main/off hand tools and gear to make anything and equipped gear is removed from your inventory.

I find this lame tho. At start i was so excited in having additional retainers options...i had 7 mules when i played FFXI...being able to access them all w/o having to log in/out and deliver items was priceless IMO. In the end a retainer for 1 buck would be way more useful than a mule (a character and 2 retainers) for 3 bucks.

I wish the plan was kept...but instead i can smell "temporary inventory expander" cash items coming soon... :/

honestly to me the problem with inventory is we get too much junk dumped on us. There are a lot of things enemies drop that don't even have a use anymore.

Getting rid of the +2/3 items was a good start but I still get bogged down with crap too often.

legacy accounts can get free characters and we'll have a mail box looks like im getting 40 mules 2.0 since there cutting inventory down per character.

Cash shop is a matter of time. Both Yoshida and Wada already said at interviews they will add microtransation system (cash shop) to FFXIV so yep, F2P/cash shop approach might be the one used here. It prolly won't be as heavy as at F2P games, but it still will happen.

every mmo p2p or f2p all have cash shops(and i do mean EVERY mmo)

people just tend to ignore that fact


f2p ones are the ones who have the REALLY obvious ones with hundreds of things though

I would take one day and dedicate it to sorting all of your items.

What I did to help me (because I'm a pack rat), was I made my 2 retainers, one of them is dedicated to holding ONLY gear, while the other is dedicated to holding ONLY items.

Then I think "What am I leveling right now?"

I am currently leveling armorer and warrior. Therefor, Any gear item that I do not need (such as mage gear) is either:

- Repaired and sold from my gear retainer, or

- Is stored on my gear retainer for a future use, or

- Is NPC'd if it's low level crap that I can just make or buy again later.

- Seasonal gear is usually stored on my gear retainer, unless I'm feeling particularly goof that day. Because you can always go back and get it.

- Because I have 3 jobs at level 50, I also keep the gear that they wear on my personal inventory. But I plan to repair my drg af and store it in my inn thingy.

As for Items:

- any crap item such as moko grass or food ingredients are immediately npc'd. (If I have large stacks of something, I'll usually check the market wards for that item first just to be safe.

- Or, if I have plans for the items, I'll store whatever my armorer wont be using on my Item retainer.

- Items that my armorer uses is kept in my personal inventory should my desire to craft arises.

- Or, I'll sell whatever I don't need for armorer or a crafting job I plan to level in the future.

- If a linkshell member is crafting something else, and needs what I don't currently need but have, I'll either give it to them free of charge, or at a discounted price. Because I love my ls mates.

Hope that helps if even a little.

One little thing I would like to mention. We are actually given a lot of inventory space, but as stated before, it's the drop rate of crap items that seems to be a problem. I'm just glad it's not like XI where you had to basically buy expansions on your inventory which I was only able to max out at around 85 slots. (I think it got bigger, but it's been a rather long time since I've played).

Oh, you'll only be able to have 7 mules, because although they did say you'll be able to have a total of 40 characters. It's limited to 8 characters per server. So you'll have your main + 7 mules ;p

Level all crafts and gathers at the same time so you can use the same gear on all of them. Store AF pieces in favor of materia melded stuff that's useful for multiple classes. Keep one weapon per class on you. Don't bother with off hand tools. I usually sit around 140 on retainers and 170 on myself.
