Why can’t there be housing plots in the open world area, near the Aetherytes? There are like 50+ Aetherytes now right, and maybe just 5-10 Smalls near each Aetheryte will provide like 500 new small plots, and will also solve another problem which is emptiness of the open world. This way we will build a lively community in each zone and players have a variety of locations to live.
Any downside to this? I think it would look beautiful. Of course maybe limit the exteriors to the theme of the zone so we dont get candyland houses in like Azim Steppe.

Now if they had gone with instanced housing instead of ward housing, it wouldn't have been a problem. Snapshot X area of a zone to be copied as an instanced location for players to use for their housing. That's what RIFT did. Outside of a handful of specialty Dimensions, each one was a copy of open world zone assets minus the objects and NPCs. -

I like the idea, but the devs had to move the lalafel tribe to another area because they ran out of memory on one of the maps.
Maybe if they made our apartments entrances at different forts to make it seam we live in those forts? Perhaps an instance entrance to our houses at those differ outposts? -

Star Wars Galaxies you could place houses anywhere with exception of some event planets and even create cities.
But you must take note of that todays games and areas is seriously small in comparison to SWG, which is also sad, if you broke your hoverbike (swoop) far out it was a seriously long walk back.. but again they could make huge areas 20 years ago, but not today.
Would love if they implented that housing system, also the housing system in SWG is some of the best I have ever seen... you can place items anywhere... lift them from the ground rotate in ANY angle and more... houses where built by crafters that then could get placed the entire thing to craft required logistics as well as factories to serie produce sub components.
I don't think something like that would ever happen again in an MMO... the system where players could build cities and elect mayors of them as well as having a city militia and built in tax systems as everythign required maintenance to keep running.
