Old skills you'd like to see returned in a new fashion.

With the launch of 6.0 and the recent PLD rework, we've learned that SE isn't averse to bringing back old skills. And with recent talks about the Goring Blade changes, it got me thinking about how other skills might change, specifically old removed ones.

My thought was about the Scholar spell Leeches, and how it could be re-implemented into the game. My thought was, since SCH got a skill similar to Thrill of Battle, maybe Leeches could act like Bloodbath.

Grants target 5 stacks of Leeches.
Leeches Affect: Restores HP with each Weaponskill or Spell successfully delivered.
Cure Potency: 400

This was my thought. But, I'm curious what others think. Is there an old skill you'd like to see brought back into the game, and would you give it a new twist?

Bulwark is a bit of an exception though, because it was always about blocking attacks, it's just that it only increased the chance of an RNG block rather than making it guaranteed.

If you look at what they did with Sheltron, which only guaranteed a block one time, what they actually did was merge Bulwark into Sheltron by simply making Sheltron guarantee all attacks get blocked for several seconds. They never truly got rid of it, just merged it to reduce button bloat.

Because in 6.3 they wanted to move away from blocks on PLD's short cooldown mitigation so it works better against dots, it was logical to reverse the decision and put the blocks back on Bulwark, so that the short cooldown mitigation was no longer about blocking but so that PLD is left with a class fantasy ability that blocks.

That was the context and I don't think this context applies to most other jobs, but they have tried to keep old abilities alive in a new form where they can. PLD still has Sword Oath as stacks for Atonement and DRK still has Darkside as a trait on their gauge, they still have Dark Arts when their shield is absorbed and they still have Delirium that gives them Bloodspiller stacks, which used to be a combo.

Kinda, it's still an old skill that was brought back though. The skill doesn't need to change per se. It could act like a "downgrade" for a current skill, kinda like the Monk changes. Or function the same but be slightly different. Like I'm sure people would love to see Wide Volley return on Bard, as an actual AoE version of Sidewinder.

Shell and Protect for WHM. Even if just in name only.
I think Protect should be a lower-level form of Divine Benison, and Shell should be a party-wide shield on a cooldown that upgrades to a better version in the 90-100 range.

Bring back the aggro combo attack animations for tanks

It's not so much skills, but rather animations I miss. Aero 3, Darkside, and Sustain just to name a few. I think these animations could replace the animations for Dia, Grit, and fairy commands respectively as the current ones are pretty lackluster.

This. Just give me the option to swap out Storm's Path for Butcher's Block and Soul Eater for Power Slash, the animations were by far superior to what they kept when they consolidated tank 1-2-3 combos.

As for Dark Arts, despite the "spam" complaints from Stormblood I think the ability deserved better than to be turned into this utterly bland TBN proc, even just for it's animation and VFX.

On all the various skills that gets upgraded over leveling, I would like the option to revert their visuals and animations back.

But for skills to come back...

Honestly, a lot of old skills end up off for good due to button bloat. I wouldn't mind seeing a "stance" option for MCH that swapped between a set of single target skills and a set of AOE ones- giving you the option to either be in "clear the dungeon pack" mode or a single-target "boss killer" one (but cooldown skills would share a timer with their stance-brother). A lot like how Drill and Bioblaster share the same cooldown- this way they'd be the same button with Bioblaster in AOE mode and Drill in single target mode.

That'd let things like Grenado Shot show up again because it'd be part of AOE mode, and let you plug in things like the MCH sniper rifle for single target (reconfiguration?) as swaps for, say Flamethrower.

Grenade Shot and Bishop Turret for Machinist.

Miasma and the DoT effect Art of War used to have on Scholar.

HW Dark Knight. That is all.

Also whatever that floating skill DRK had.

The old Red Lotus sword weaponskill from 1.0 for GLA/PLD (I'd also say old-school 1.0 Rage of Halone with it's five-hit burst, but RoH now gets replaced by Royal Authority anyway so this is probably redundant.)

Also speaking of GLA/PLD, Convalesence as an emergency heal potency boost for a critical situation such as a tank buster (maybe put it on a long cooldown to avoid it being spammed).

And although they got a bad rap, Protect and Stoneskin on CNJ/WHM - they did save my butt as a tank more than I care to aknowledge.

I would like to see Aero 3 returned with a rework that creates a reward system for maintaining good Regen uptime. So have Aero/Dia and Aero 3/Whatever it upgrades into (I'm partial to Aeolus since it ties in with Dia) function like BLM's Thunder spell but have them proc off of Regen/Medica 2 so that there's some synergy within the toolkit. The DPS and Healing side of healers is too disjointed and does little to promote the use of one over the other. Having more rewards for healing besides just Misery would give WHM a nice little niche as a Healer with Nuke spells that they utilize off of healing. They've already taken a step in this direction with Misery, they just need to expand on that to the DoT.

Nocturnal Sect, but make it change the color scheme for our visual effects to something darker and colder.
Although I'd rather see them just give us new cards altogether (preferably a deck that uses all the cards), if needs must, I'd also like to see Heavensward's cards returned to us, but with an edited Balance card that doesn't grant a % damage buff.
I'd like to see WHM get their elemental spells back, either as an alternative or as variable special abilities that alter their effects based on lily usage.

I wouldn't mind having Flaming Arrow back on Bard and the Stoneskin line on White Mage.
