Regarding Shout Chat

Recently came back to the game with the recent patch and while it was somewhat bad with World Travel I feel like shout chat is getting progressively more and more aggressive with how much "spam" is being pumped into it.

While this is a personal problem, for some reason I just pass out at random times so I often have to tell people "Hey if I don't respond, give me an hour or two and I'll prob wake up and check my log". Before I can reach them though, over the course of an hour I'll see like 10 or 20 shouts advertising for the same thing just at a different location.
I get people want to make income via twitch with DJ stuff but at the same time it's pretty annoying with just how repetitive and large some of these shouts are. I know there's been a lot of post throughout the forums time regarding shout chat but I really wish SE did something to limit it.

Give the ERP venus/DJ/ "Draw your character on stream" people their own shout chat.
" (insert some smug lala or miqo) just turn off shout chat 4head"
As someone who occasionally conducts/scouts hunt trains/ occasionally joins in the "shot calling" in frontline" turning off and on shout chat would be somewhat of an inconvenience.

If not that, while it wouldn't be a total fix, put a daily or weekly limit to shout chat. This won't stop much since I assume the people spamming these places are often just alts since my blacklist is currently full and I still see the same messages.
While I don't know how it works now, I know TERA had a system where you had to spend money in order to shout. While I don't think this will do much at least it will force people to spend even more money to spam shout chat since I bet at least 50% or less are possible RMT users. (Not hard to find, just look at the funny "sprout" looking lovingling at players for a few minutes in Uldah's Atheryte or just check the MB on some low-level gear.)

Either offer more support to these players by giving them a tab in pf/shout chat then people interested have a place to check and players like me don't have to deal with it or restrict it a little.

As much as I would like a separate channel for advertisements...they wouldn't use them. People would leave that channel or never join and after a day of noticing that they would go back to using the channels that they KNOW people would see it...thus /say and /shout.

I don't mind people from my own World occasionally advertising their things, as long as it isn't multiple characters spamming it way too often.

What I despise is people from other Worlds or Data Centers coming in to drop their spammy macro and teleporting to next destination like some bot.

Similarly, seeing multiple repeat ads in Party Finder is annoying spam, just put your one up and be done with it.

At least the people out themselves doing all this, makes it easy to blacklist them, but problem is eventually running out of list space.

of they do add a separate chat, it would have to be enforced, we already have bulletins we know in the other sections.

it should be just like if you post incorrectly in PF

what I do is put things I want to see, like fc, tells etc on the old Novice channel tab. I generally flip to that in the cities if its really bad or if I am crafting.

otherwise its on general which gets everything. flipping shout chat that way shouldnt interfere with your "shot calling" if you are shouting it.

This isn't the best solution but something you can do in the meantime is to use one of your 4 chat Windows and put only the shout chat on it. Then take shout chat off your general one. Voila! You now have a sh chat tab (which is pretty much an ad tab)

I mean, as a venue owner myself, we try to limit where and when shouts are done. Yes they may teleport and shout then move onto the next location, but consider, it takes 20 minutes to get every major location where players are likely to be on every server in the data center. I would also like to point out that none of the venues receive any of the money that their particular DJ does, so it's not being done to promote the DJ (or at least not from what I've seen, there may be some shouts with DJ information). You've also got multiple venues vying for attention in the partyfinder. These are community events being held, and just because they're RP venues doesn't mean they should be considered less important than other community events such as hunt trains and the like.

Now, while we recognize that yes it can get annoying for multiple shouts going out, we also know we can't please everyone. Limiting the chat would defeat the purpose of the chat. You may as well simply remove it entirely if you had weekly or daily limits. The entire purpose of shout chat is to advertise. Be it a hunt train, FC recruitment, or venue advertisement. No one to my knowledge actually uses shout chat unironically to actually chat with everyone.

In short, I don't really see it hurting anyone. For me personally, there's so many shouts that I sort of just gloss over them, and I have a tab where shouts are turned off when I'm actively talking to individuals, talking in say chat, or talking to the FC. Then I have a tab that has literally everything and I actively switch between the two depending on what the situation calls for.

people actually did many months ago if I recall at least In my world, mostly small talk, though it largely died since people move on/change dc/world over their personal issues.(we even have a clone bot of a performer, which tbh, if you're trying to keep the memory of a person long gone, no new person will care.)

If we don't have things work as intended, how can we expect other things to work as designed.

it's like Fellowships atm, not many use them, but those that do, partake constantly enough that it contains many large ones.

if the game pushes and improves said chats[maybe even divert the Inappropriate use of Novice Network into a actual chat that would be drop in/drop out], then they would be used for said things, have better FC integration both in the website, and in game with PF link, and Fellowships as well.

Many ways to solve a solution. and going out of one's way to adjust a chat is not a fix, but a used bandaid as many have a need for shout chat outside of CityStates or open world.

It's not hard to scroll up past 10 or 20 messages. I do it all the time.

You can make new tabs that filter out shout, add filters to just show tells and free company chat and stay in those tabs when not hunting.

You could also blacklist the main people doing it or switch server to somewhere with less shouts.

I agree......

I know it's super difficuly but it's a little annoying to scroll on console and yeah haha point and laugh ps4 user but don't really have the income to afford something better. If you even look funny at the chat box it will reset and your right back to the bottom of the chat

I unironically use Shout chat to try to chat with people when I'm out in the lonely overworld MSQing. Now that I think about it, I'm the only person I've ever seen do that. Makes me wish there were more socialcels in this game.

This blocks the overwhelming majority of spam.

You can cut down on 99.99% percent of venue ads by simply not hanging out around the Aetheryte in one of the three main starter cities. If you're meeting up with friends to go talk to them, then just...meet literally anywhere else? And if you're looking to mingle with strangers in a more public place, well, you may just have to put up with some ads or use some term filters.

It's just kind of a non-issue to me because there's so many ways to avoid it.

Not that it does anything about spam but I wish we could have more and more customization about our chat channels. If I could quarantine yell and shout to it's own tab and be able to tab over when I need it for a hunt train that would go a long way for me personally.

This is kinda funny to me...

I remember my first time logging into Gridania on a PS3 over a decade ago. Chat was going so fast and was so full of spam, that it looked more like Twitch chat than it did an MMO chat (no, really), and I genuinely thought that's just how chat in XIV was.

If you were there, you know. If you weren't there, you have no idea how bad it was, and how much better it now is.

I think most of us have learned to ignore shout since it's usually bots/gil sellers...

Generally speaking, I keep Shout and Yell in a separate tab. It helps with being spoiler free when new content comes out, since most channels I'd be reading are tells/FC, so spoilers are limited. When I rely on shouts/yells for communication, such as hunt trains, I switch to that tab (where tells/FC chat also shows up) for the duration. Then switch back.

I can't control what other people do, such as how they use chat. But I can control my own actions (tabs). Easy.

My 4th chat tab is Party/Alliance/Linkshell/Tells only. I did this years ago during Shadowbringers to avoid people who were putting spoilers in Shout chat to be trolls. I still find it extremely useful to this day, to help me stay focused on certain things in very "chat-heavy" areas like cities, and also to avoid all the venue spam.

I just shut shouts and yells off and only click it back on for the occasional hunt runs. It would be nice to be able to have them turned on so I don't have to toggle them, but its just part of playing mmos, esp ones who cater to the rp crowd, so to me it's almost like an annoying mechanic that you just need to deal with. I have them shut off in XI too because of the ppl spamming chat with merc survices. I do wish there was a way to make a macro that turned on and off shout/yell, but if there is, I haven't found it yet. Now all I have to deal with in chat are the cringy "meowdy" players and the ppl who make a macro with 20 lines of symbols to make the same boring picture in chat that we have been seeing for the past 15 years, which are far worse than venue spammers imo since you cannot turn off party chat and the block keyword feature doesn't work in dungeons for some reason.

They should just ban it in shout chat. I go to and even work at several venues and tbh when I'm looking for a new venue to go to I check party finder in the other tab. And that's where this should stay. These shouts don't pull in new venue goers because the only ppl playing rn don't care about venues or already use them via pf

It would be really nice if venue ads were actually only in PF. When I’m making a party for raiding I don’t go to every city to shout about it. Why do venue events do both PF and shouting? It sounds like they don’t really have good reason to shout anyway.

honestly the blacklist option is rather good since morst the time it block more then one character per character blocked. that's what I started doing because I do find it annoying myself not like don't don't advertise everywhere even want sprout to try out xx)

But remember those few years ago when we had people getting suspended for advertising their venue's in the Party finders others tab?

the problem.is some stuff did broke ToS sadly but still think it was to much ya the other reason most have moved to a site to advert themself
