Dynamis Vs Aether

Can I get a clear cut set of rules on which of these does what?

Can dynamis affect aether?

What shapes aether when we use it in magic? The casters will or his emotions via dynamis?

Are the shapes/forms of Primals the result of the worshippers thought? Or their emotions? The 12 are shaped by emotions/dynamis. Apparently 'wolf sidekick', and 'big tits' qualify as emotions now.

I can accept in videogame logic 'a wizard did it'. Hand wave away anything as 'cause aether' or 'cause dynamis.'

BUT EXPLAIN WHICH ONE DOES WHAT PLEASE!

I may not be 100% correct, but...

Aether is basically the energy that makes up most life. They all have it, and magic is a form of it. Dynamis is basically the ‘Dark Energy’ of FFXIV, the unseen force that whilst more abundant in the world, is also less observed and weaker. The more Aether there is, the weaker the effect Dynamis has. For example, the pre-Sundered Ancients had such a high natural Aether they where relatively unaffected by even large amounts of Dynamis raining upon them. It was only their only had their creation magics which went out of control (Still caused The End of the World mind…)

We do not know the full details of what Dynimis is and what it does, as we only just discovered it/was added recently, but it seems to react to strong emotions, negative ones in particular, twisting the Aether of the Sundered and turning them into hollow Blasphemies. So strong is this corruption by Dynamis that those turned by it never return to the life stream. Does it effect magic? I do not think we have a clear answer, but likey so. We know our Limit Breaks seem to be powered by it, and its interesting looking back how often ‘emotion’ is the explanation for power/aspects in several of the job quests (PLD, WAR, DNC ect) which whilst a fantasy trope in their own right, can now be retroactively attributed to Dynamis. Is it an aspect of Primals? Again I do not think we have been given a clear answer, but given the emotions that must go into summoning what you think is a God, and the fact that the Twelve seemed to be shaped by it, I would be highly surprised if its not involved somehow.

I suspect we will learn more about it in future patches, via a few ‘retconns’ I think.

That may be false. EW Healer role quest spoilers below.

It was shown in the final role quest that apparently this may in fact be fake, because Fordola sees the soul of her friend, the man who turned into the blasphemy, and had a conversation with him as he turned into light. Almost as if the idea that they do not return to the lifestream is in fact false, and the dynamis is merely so strong that it masks the aether.

That is a good point! I did not think of it like that when I did the EW Role Quests...

I am not sure its enough to say that its false. I cannot remember exactly how Y'shtola described it to my shame, but it could be that their essence is still there in some sort of shade as a Blasphemy, an empty shadow of what was before eventually evaporating into nothing. If I remember correctly the Blasphemy we faced at that time was already acting diffidently then most from the start, seemingly keeping a distance on purpose etc. That could be a hint either way that it was a unique situation or that what we know is false. I think if they wanted to suggest that this usurped the idea they do not return to the lifestream, it would be a little more signposted? Its kinda big thing, given how it makes them and the threat of Dynamis even more horrific. Still I could certainly see this being a sign that what we know about the Blasphemies is not complete/true. Will be interesting if the subject is brought up again in 7.0+! I certinly hope we get to learn more about what Dynamis actually does. Even outside of this there are still alot of questions.

Dynamis/Aether could be pulling a FFX in that situation like when Tidus goes and talks with the 'dead'.

The ambient dynamis/aether reacting to a persons emotions/thoughts and conjuring up an illusion of what they intensely want to see and hear.

I actually don't super buy that, or really take it as evidence of anything, given who we're talking about.

First of all, we've never seen a scene like that before or since, and we certainly have no shortage of scenes where people died while an Echo-haver was around to facilitate it. I genuinely think that's just how Fordola perceives what she did, rather than in any way what happened.

And as for why it contradicts... well, because it's Fordola. Fordola's far from stupid, but she's also not exactly the smartest person, nor the person most capable of readily taking new facts on board. Even if she was told that was how it worked as far as things looked (and honestly I don't think anyone would've told her), does she really seem like the type to believe that when she already has a strongly-held belief of what she has to do and why?

I actually always believed that it wasn't that the souls of people turned into those beasts were consumed, but rather that they were being yanked to Ultima Thule instead of their own lifestream, and it just happens to look about the same to Y'shtola who wasn't in a great place to perceive what was going on exactly. I don't believe this is never stated, but it would explain how exactly Ultima Thule exists, and why it has souls from planets that Meteion saw die; it's something of a magnet for them.

This could also be the case for why blasphemies can't return to the lifestream, because the second they turned their souls were yanked to Ultima Thule. It's possible that defeating Endsinger may have returned said souls to the lifestream, if they aren't a part of Ultima Thule that is recycled/reborn onto another fresh planet.

That reminds me of some old sci fi channel show. Guy dies and wakes up on an island with a bunch of people that also had died. Cameo appearances by napoleon, Mark twain and other historical figures. All of them woke up in mid 20s prime of life condition. A single alien is also there because he crashed his ship and died on earth.
Kinda scary to think your afterlife could change depending on where you die.

It feels like they completely glossed over the point of what happened to all those souls imprisoned in Ultima Thule, so unless dynamis gets brought back into significant relevance again outside of the Omicron quests, I doubt we'll ever get a clear answer sadly.

There is the whole Meteion line of souls going to the nearest Aetherial Sea line. I.E if there isn't a big enough flow to return to it somehow finds a way to the next closest one.

Oh it most likely will. Because there are portions of the world we have not seen, it won't be surprising one bit to find a place where dynamis is the primary power source for magic...which would also work as a good way to "reset" levels in the new zones because we're basically starting from scratch learning how to use dynamis instead of aether for everything (and then combining the two together consistently).

A good idea for a Deep Dungeon in Ultima Thule for the next expansion - no longer will it be in the final zone of the current expansion and it'd give a reason besides Omicron Tribe quests to return to that zone. Having our third Deep Dungeon return to clean up some of the lingering Crystal Tower/Eureka threads and be located in a far more accessible zone to players starting before level 89 is why I'm glad that the (Ultima Thule) Dynamis Deep Dungeon wasn't chosen this time, but the concept writes itself.
