Ugly raid gear effects

Is it just me or are the effects of the current raid gear ugly and wasted potential.

I now have the dyeable chestpiece for a while but was not able to make any good glamour out of it.
This effect is the thing that annoys me the most and is to strong.
Also, everyone who cleared the normal mode has it, so it's not even something special.


I would prefer a version without effect's, because the base gear itself looks great and dyes nicely.

Why didn't we get a normal version, dyeable without effect's in the normal mode and the effects version in savage.
That would make these new kind of effects something special give current savage raider a additional reason to clear all and some new player a incentive to try raiding (and in 2 year's everyone else will be able to do it unsync it anyway)

yeah the flames and ring on the body piece really ruin it for me,
like the helms are fine but on the chest its just overkill, like its great they can do this with armor now but id really like this if it was saved for some relic armor or elemental armor kind of thing.

For me it’s more that not much other gear has the really visual “flair” like neon lights or flaming jets… so any who have it wear it and stick out. It doesn’t really gel with other visuals in the game.

In a game like Guildwars, there are so many parts that have wild visuals that everyone looks wildly different, so while any one individual looks nuts, it all kinda just blends in together.

For FF, it would work better if there were more options to wear…but I’m not sure if it’s the direction I’d want this game to go personally since GW kinda looks like a zoo when you see a crowd of people.

I would have preferred that arrangement too. I like the designs of the body pieces but I basically cannot use them, especially the ones with the swirling flame-circle on the back which I find very unpleasant to look at.

I used to agree with this suggestion (and still do) as well as the post's above mine. However, it would take some of the fun from casual players that would like to have it as it's released so I kinda understand.

I think the solution would be to allow the ring effect to be toggled on or off at will. It's basically what I suggest in this thread about toggleable options for chestpieces and other gear: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...tions-for-gear

This would solve the problem in the future if they decide to keep adding gear with glows or any other kind of special effect.

I felt like it was trying to be WoW with the armor this time. The option to turn it off would be nice cause I know some like it.

i would love to turn it off. my first impression: 'what a cool piece of armour, looks great.... but it will wear out pretty fast'.... and it did without me even wearing it. just from looking at others xD

I kinda wish the effects only appeared in combat. Like how weapons don’t glow on your back

I don't mind most of the effects, except for the Ring. I still do not get the concept behind. When I initially saw the imagine, I just glanced at it and thought it'd be like waves of energy emitting from the body. But no, it's basically a giant hoola hoop just suspended in the air. Just... why?

I'm not even rolling on the torso tokens because I hate that flame effect.

It's great for those who want "shiny" armor. Not so good for those who don't find it appealing.

I'm one who doesn't find it appealing. There's already way too much unnecessary visual effect clutter in the game that I'm turning off. I really didn't want more added to it.

That doesn't mean I don't want those effects available for those who do enjoy them.

I'd like to see SE add a system, probably based around something similar to a glamour system, so those who want various glows on their gear can add it as an option instead of making it a default part of the gear. In turn, it hopefully would make it possible for players to select a toggle that would disable seeing those effects on other player gear. It could also vastly improve system performance for those relying on older graphics cards.

In the meantime, the glamour dresser can get a good workout hiding it.

They're running out of idea's for armour so now they're just adding blingy, glittery shiny crap on to everything lol.
Just make it an options to turn off and on the lightshow. Same with Weapons too plox.

I think the gear itself is just ugly, but I think the particles would be better if they weren't "normal fire color (red/orange) or fantasy fire color (purple)".

The variants should have both been fantasy colors--like maybe purple fire or blue fire.

My one criticism of the flame rings is that they are hard anchored to the body piece such that the ring pivots with each swing of the shoulders during a run. If you're going to make floating effects like this, please make them independent of the armor model so that they can float smoothly behind the character without extraneous pivoting. The fire and ice effects from the crafted Zurvan weapons seem to be have their own inertia separate from their weapon models, so separating the flame rings from the Purgatory/Abyssos armor to make them move more naturally should also be possible.

Honestly, the Abyssos armor sets look pretty good in my opinion, even without the glows. That said, I don't mind the glows. I think that they tried something different but didn't really think it all the way through, but that's something they do pretty regularly anyway, the not thinking it all the way through thing I mean.
