Just an idea; new "Clans" for each existing race

It's always fun having cool new races to play as. However, as we've clearly seen with the Viera and Hrothgar, it's clearly a pretty massive commitment, and given those two are still struggling to "catch up" in regards to hairstyles or helms. Trying to throw a whole new race into the mix clearly isn't feasible.

What I feel like *COULD* be feasible, is the possibility to adding a new "Clan" for each race.

Here's my thinking; using these new "Clans" as a means of adding a new "look" for existing races, in a way more dramatic than anything that would simply be "new cosmetic options", but not SO dramatic it takes too significant an amount of development time.

We've not yet been to Meracydia, but we know it's a continent to the south. It makes sense that we may visit it in the future, and seems a great opportunity to showcase some new cultures and potentially even looking a bit distinct from those we've previously seen.

Here are a couple of examples of what I'm thinking:

- "Wolf" Hrothgar

I really dig the IDEA of the Hrothgar. I've always gravitated towards larger, tough-looking characters, and the initial artwork shown of the Hrothgar looked awesome. However, the end result look a bit too much like "big kitty-cat men", which feels a bit "cutesy".

I would LOVE to have a "clan" of Hrothgar with more Wolf-inspired features. I'd also love if they were maybe a LITTLE less chonky, a little more lean, but if that's not possible, whatever. I'd love going all-out with a Nordic/Viking sort of theme, maybe some long, ornate braids? Maybe having "fur" over your entire body, as well? Mainly just more "canine" face options.

- "Human" Au Ra

To be clear; I'm a HUGE fan of the Xaela's lore. I think the Au Ra look cool as-is, but my issue is that their horns and tail REALLY conflict with your appearance options. I would love to have a "Clan" of Au Ra that has regular ears, and ideally no tail, just to avoid clipping issues.

Having said that, I wouldn't be opposed to making them distinct in other ways. Maybe they're COVERED in scales (not just patches on their arms/legs), having a more reptilian or draconic appearance? Or maybe they're just some off-shoot that just didn't develop horns or whatever. Like I said, mainly just want to be able to wear glamours that don't "clash" with whatever my horns happen to be, particularly as I like their body-type and most of their animations (standing and walking animations look a bit too rigid, though).

Obviously, you could use any other number of possibilities. Ishgardian Elezen, perhaps Doman Roegadyn, maybe even Garlean Hyur. You could even have more exotic

So.. a Hyur then?

Only change for like to see for Au Ra is option to let you use elf ears instead of horns. Alot of anime's see the dragon people have elf style ears and small horns.

There's already a wolfman race in Doma called the lupin.

The funny thing is head lore guy Oda said a while back in an interview that there was another more "ancient" clan of Au Ra aside from the two we're familiar with, but they haven't so much suggested anything about such to date.

Finally establishing other racial tribes, like the Ishgardian Elezen and Far Eastern Roegyden would be great!

I mean....

You do know that the devs would just end up ignoring 2 subtypes of each race, instead of just ignoring ONE subtype of each race, right?

There's been two "of the moon" miquote, offical to the plot, ever.

TWO.

Add another kind of catfolk and they'll just ignore it, and maybe we'll see one represented in another 5 years.

What some people seem to forget is that "mechanically" there are only 2 "clans" but lorewise there are quite a few. The Hyurs we see on the other continents aren't Midlanders or Highlanders. The Au Ra we see in Thavnair aren't Xaela or Raen. Roegadyn in Othard aren't Seawolf or Hellsguard. The best reference for this is a lore bit we got about Ishgard. The devs said that most of the Elezen are descended from Wildwood, but have become their own thing over time. So technically, you can be from any clan, not just the two mentioned.

I would kill for the badass female Au Ra from this concept art as a new clan, similar to how Hyurs can choose Midlander or Highlander.

About... what, 2.5 expansions late, given how what OP described is literally the Lupine race made playable?

The hope is once femhroth drops theyll start looking into improving the races we currently have instead of adding more new ones. More options for character creation would very much be a plus.

Mao is greedy dragon-kin. Mao wants ears AND horns AND more scales AND dragon breath AND.....well, like Mao said, Mao is greedy dragon-kin.

The Lupine seem potentially cool, but the problem is like I said, they're clearly not one of the existing races. If they fleshed them out as a "complete" race, they'd likely have the same issues at the Viera and Hrothgar already experience, and likely make the situation worse.

I suppose you could "retcon" the Lupine to use a Hrothgar model, but I don't think people would be happy with that.

As far as my comments on an "Au Ra without horns", there are still LOADS of differences between them and the Hyur. They're much taller, leaner, they have more masculine animations, their arms are larger and their shoulders wider. I find Hyur Midlanders too "meek" looking, while Highlanders seem kind of ugly. The Au Ra have much cooler body-types, personally. But as a Xaela, their eyes are dark and lack "warmer" peach skin-tones, while the Raen have bright horns and tails that don't really gel with most glamours (for example, the Abyssos armor).

Now having said all that, I'm absolutely NOT saying that any of my suggestions are "the right choice", either. Just giving examples.

I mean, you could even go the polar opposite way, giving an Au Ra clan with a *more* draconic appearance. Or maybe a "Hrothgar" with no fur and more human face. Any number of things.

Another example might be a Lalafel that maybe has an appearance reminiscent of the Ivalice-style Moogles, with a small layer of fur. Still the same overall body-type and animations, but just a bit different.

Like I said, I feel like that's something that *could* be kind of cool.

Probably best to wait and see after the 7.0 Racial Class updates. and then after someone sacrifices themselves to access forbidden knowledge of the Stability of Eitherys to handle such things.

we don't know how deep they could handle it. but they know for sure<They Have To> that if they want to keep us for 10 more years. they better improve and add what we want. which let's be honest, includes the most basics from head to toe, and what all living beings lack. and it's all in the servers backends as well.(rear)

I wouldn't mind them as a playable race, but right now I would rather they focus on completeing the ones we already have.

We should probably start with clans that exist in lore but have to use the models of other clans, just for RP/ character building purposes. It costs SE little in terms of time compared to a true new clan and helps many players out.

I'd love a more "bestial" au'ra clan. Would I ever play it? Probs not, I'd feel tied to specific kinds of glam. But I'd love *seeing* it and that's all that matters

Having seen the Au'Ra without horns and tails (google) they honestly look ... really wonky. They're built around having the horns and tails, without them they just look unbalanced.

I've not had any luck finding any such images. Considering the special form you enter as a Reaper (I forget the name of the actual skill), it temporarily removes your horns, and I honestly found I kind of preferred it? I got back and forth, though. I think with SOME glamours, the horns are absolutely awesome. Particularly when my character was rocking a darker-skinned Xaela look. But when I decided I'd like to switch to a lighter-skinned sort of character, I suddenly found it VERY difficult to get the right "look". Like I said, in addition to the darker scales, Xaela also have significantly darker eyes, and more blue-ish skin tones. I wound up settling on a Raen for a more "ginger" sort of look, but then it looked super goofy when wearing a lot of the darker armor and clothes I'd been accustomed to, especially the Abyssos armor (which I'm sure some people aren't into, but I'd consider those some of the cooler sets I've ever seen).

I definitely think the Xaela are super cool, and I LOVE all their lore and the time spent learning about and interacting with all their tribes. But the horns in particular just make it kind of hard to work with some glamours, plus they render earrings essentially invisible. I also wish the Xaela could choose the lighter eye colors, and maybe a more sunny-looking, peach skin tone.

Very much my line of thinking. I love new options, so if the Devs are down to make more races, that's awesome! But considering they've clearly remarked the immense difficulty in adding new races (in fact, didn't they actually say they weren't adding any more after Shadowbringers?), and many feel Viera and Hrothgar are "incomplete" without being able to wear helms or added hairstyles... I feel like "new races" probably aren't super feasible. At least, not any time soon.

Adding new variations of existing races, by way of new "Clans", I think could be a wonderful middle-ground.

For example, maybe a "clan" of Lalafells that are maybe covered in a small layer of fur with some Moogle-ish features?

Or what about going even more radical:

A "Roegadyn" clan that uses the Hrothgar model (minus the tail and fur), more of a savage "Orc" sort of look. A "Hrothgar" clan that uses the Viera model, but with canine features and tall wolf ears (maybe even calling them Lupin?). Garlean Hyur that use an Elezen model. Stuff like that?

I think it would actually be fun having a questline that involves the clans from each race. Perhaps the rewards could be the XIV's equivalent to the RSE gear from XI. That said, I'm not sure we can have something like this without a sizeable amount of people going "this is ___ist/___phobic!" I would love to be proven wrong though! Let's get some more lore questlines in the game!

You can’t tell me that in 2-4 years or whenever she technically hits adulthood, she’s going to change that drastically to look like any of those PC options. lol

All jokes aside, iirc they mentioned there's third clans of races, so after the whole... catching up the races thing for buns and baracats, I'm realllllly hoping they just update the character creator with a third clan and different options since those would be a million times easier to code around. Garlean hyurs with the eyes and taller frames, the third auri clan, the third elezen clan that I could have sworn they talked about before... just give them all to us dangit.

I was kinda bummed they didn't just make Male Viera another forum of Hyur and call them "Outlanders" with no ears. I like how they look but I feel like they would have just looked just fine without the ears too :)

I definitely still gravitate most towards something like an Au Ra minus the scales/tail/horns (and normal ears), but I think there's a lot of fun ideas you could make. More beast-looking, less beast-looking, stuff like that. Just "variations" on the existing options.

Yes. One of the main reasons I’m not a Hyur anymore is no matter what options you pick, they all end up looking so similar. More faces and face options all around would be great! And of course, more hairstyles for everyone too!
