...why don't you make PvP actually fun to play?
I know that's a radical notion for you guys, but at least give it some consideration.

What a stupid comment. lol
That doesn't detract from their statement. If anything, it's worse because the FOMO isn't even worth it. So then there's 0 reason to PvP. They didn't say it was good promotion.
PvP at it's core is broken until they fix the 500ms / low tick rate / inconsistent ability registration, no amount of additional features and game modes will fix how bad it feels. Unless they slow it so far down that it turns into a pseudo-FFTactics PvP.
FFT/FFTA turn based (based on unit speed) PvP battle system when?
What if they just made it so that the battle passes just didnt expire. What if they made it so you could just choose any of the ones released up to the current point and work on it until it's finished?
Did you also complain about the fomo from back when it was the feast and only top 100 got the good rewards? You have two seasons to get a series rewards. Literal months to slowly gain said rewards from three forms of pvp. I just wish one of those modes was popular enough that it wasn't a one day a week que for most servers. Or the rare time the community reps choose to que up for it.
I came into this game in 4.55. I played two matches of The Feast and never picked it up again. However, to your point, I was pretty adamantly upset about losing out on the numerous rewards from GARO. I made it well known that it should return. People gave me nothing but crap for asking for GARO back, but look what actually came back.
The crystal conflict battle pass already doesnt have a money entry, if they remove the expiry aswell it would have nothing left of what makes battle passes so annoying. It would be just the same as experience points. The time to reach rank 25 for the top reward is already very long. There is no bragging rights with it already, might aswell make them unlimited time. Unless someone wants to tell me the archfiend armor and the dragon mount are being put into some other content, then it's whatever.
There's two sections of this topic that don't overlap well, unless you want to straw a topic.
<Plays only CC Ranked atm>
The Series/Season Rewards should be changed in how they work in some way.
<and tbh, there is no harm in them having it be timeless,> if they really wanted to get people coming back to fill the queues, have only be able to begin a new Pass/Chain when you finish the previous one for each new season(+/- one allowance to move into the next one if you complete one you chose for the previous season, but didn't complete then, and completed it in a new season.) that way you also aren't locked out of a new Pass/Chain. and can catch up to the current Pass/Chain eventually. whilst the Current Pass and Chain will last the entire time it does now. Gives reason for Players with Alts to Actually Run PVP if they choose to do so asides -place typical response from pvpers when losing to a "sprout" here-.
The combat itself is alright for what it is.
there is some qualms that are subjective to each player.
at the start of this current season<before mogtomes and my streak removing my chance of finding a quick match> they made changes, which in my opinion on, not being able to Cleanse Reaper Fear made that game changing LB become even more OP in the right hands(whilst guaranteed for those without practice or skill)
Connectivity tends to fall on the players own connections<I would know the difficulty since I've upgraded many months past.> and simply just getting to know how opposing players tend to react.(you may never fully be able to react to everything all the time. but anticipation helps in the long run.)
that's not to say that there isn't any bugginess that SE must fix(like visuals with shields. and still walking, or other players Delays/Connectivity issues causing Attacks still hit hard through a shield.)
it boils down to one being Objective<the Passes/Chains which shouldn't have any FOMO, but at least a long Catch up Mechanic that benefits those who like the content.> and the other being Subjective<when it deals with Visual Bugs enhanced by the fact of the players side or opponents side affecting the outcomes on the server side. thus relying heavily on a players anticipation of the opponents, In order to maintain or take the upperhand>
Weirdly enough, yes. I remove a debuff, I shouldn't be able to be inflicted by another debuff for 5 seconds. Yet, since there is a short duration between Purify going on cooldown and getting the buff, it gives a chance for other debuffs to slip through and, unfortunately, I haven't developed my psychic powers enough to predict when that second debuff is going to come to properly time it.
Making PvP '' fun '' is an uphill battle because how fun PvP is is highly dependent on how well your teammates play. Not to say they shouldn't update the PvP modes and balance them as need be, but even if we got the best iteration of PvP in FFXIV, I assume it'd still be largely frustrating.
I'd like to see a deathmatch mode, personally.
Being smart won't win you points there. Just saying.
Btw define fun because that's gonna differ by the person. Also is...what is it 4-5 months REALLY considered FOMO? That is so much time to complete a series it's not even funny. If you miss out on that I'm sorry but thats on you.
You again had a lengthy amount of time to get Garo stuff unless you joined the game very late and didn't want to grind hard before it went away for the short time it was gone for. Unlike the top 100 feast rewards. The current mode is a lot more fun and easier to get into than back when it was feast. The only thing I feel they could improve on is quality and quantity of rewards. Right now I'm lv 19 for the current series I hadn't touched it this whole time having been at rank 3 before moogle tomes came about. I can't wait for the Kugane market map. Hopefully they'll put more things in the Trophy Crystal shop as I've just recently gained all of the framer kits and I don't like the glamor.
No. I was replying to the OP who said they also felt GARO was fomo for them or whatever. They had plenty of time before it went away to get things from it. It lasted from 3.5 to 5.1 so at least 3.5 months worth of time to at least get an armor set and the Frontlines mounts. Since they said they only touched Feast twice. I started this character in the tail end of its original run. Didn't bother with it then. Got the whm outfit and all three mounts soon after Crystaline Conflict came out. I think I had it before season 2 started. This coming from someone who only has 58 seal Frontline wins. Mostly due to not quing up for it daily. The rest from getting bad groups. Those occurring greatly on Seal Rock maps.
"Haha um yeah so like <burps> why dont you guys make like uh er.....good game"
PvP is great as it is. CC for occasional PvP to shake gameplay up and Rival Wings during the event. Perfect for me. I wouldn't like to no-life one aspect of the game, whether it is PvE or PvP. This way I can just jump to different things when I want a change.
pvp is only fun if u keep winning
pvp is only fun when you dont take it seriously and meme all day
don't even need to win to progress the battle pass,
ever since live letter ive been doing 10 CC matches a day and I'm rank 19 its easy to progress.
the rewards will be added later regardless so FOMO is not even a thing
PvP is fun when people know what they're doing and put in some effort.
Isn't there fomo in every mmo?
If it was actually fun it would still have fomo, probably way worse too :p
I got the rewards doing my challenge log every week only(because I hate pvp) and got all the rewards months ago.
PvP is good... would suggest to get good at it as compared to Savage and Ultimates that all runs on scripts of same old same old... and repetetative then in PvP you need to outwit the opposing players which create a different gameplay to react to everytime thus making it the most difficult content in the game to do...
Also.... this more experience you got in it... this better chances, but it requires effort that is harder to obtain than savage and ultimates to reach that... and countless of matches where you learn what is going on.
I can overall agree with the idea of the thread creator as unless I am mistaken you can no longer get the Archfiend set/Adventure plate frames from series 1 (unless you earned them and never claimed them) and this series rewards also have an unclear return date. I admit I did grind casual CC as I really wanted the mount but man do I never want to do that again, I will do my daily frontline matches from here on in as at least it is a huge chunk of exp per day for a job and it is a lot less stressful causal CC matches of "And we lost because my team forgot the crystal was an objective and just refused to run past the melee bullying at base."
Those rewards are available for 4 months and one doesn't have to win every match to get them. If these items matter to anyone, it's worth doing more than the bare minimum to get the right amount of xp. Find a pvp discord to join up with some people for pre-made groups and you might start having more fun with it. Don't forget Rival Wings is an option and the are regular queue events for each DC.
And you are allowed to take breaks are you not, that is a whole selling point of the game isn't it? I took an extended break forgetting about the pvp series rewards until my return. Also I wish Rival Wings wasn't an over 30 min wait time when I am online as I vastly prefer it over all other pvp options.
I stopped playing CC this series as soon as I got the mount. :p I have no use of the already too much currency I have.
Like I said, there's a discord option for Rival Wings. Almost every evening on Revival, there's an event lasting a few hours for people to queue on a specific data center.
As for missing out on stuff due to breaks: The schedule is generally very consistent and easy to follow. Every 4 months, we're getting updates and things like pvp series change over to new rewards. Next year, the updates are in January and (most likely) May and September. Live Letters serve as a warning that an update is approaching, with the second being a 2 week notice.
While I do appreciate the consistent schedule I just don't see "you had X amount of time" as that kind of misses the point of what FOMO is. I would be much happier if they had just confirmed "Oh yeah you will be able to just buy the past rewards with trophy crystals a year after their release (like mogstation holiday items)" as that doesn't induce the FOMO aspects of the rewards as it stands. With no clear future release for these items it kinda is FOMO.
