After defeating Ultimate weapon 77 more quests to get to Ishgard?

Is this correct? I'm already over level 50 after defeating the ultimate weapon. But before I can get to the new lands, I have to complete 77 level 50 quests? If so, that is absurd. I will be completely over leveled for the new areas. My gathering/crafting jobs are stuck for a crazy amount of time because I can't go gather there. Someone tell me I'm reading this wrong.

The quests after ultima weapon give like 1000-1200xp each

The post-credits phase of ARR is long, and you'll see this pattern repeat in the post-credits phase of each expansion (though the plots get better).

The quests in this phase don't give much EXP so you won't go up that much, although it's still useful to take up a second job at some point. Red mage and samurai will start at level 50, gunbreaker and dancer at 60, sage and reaper at 70.

Also don't fret about the specific number of quests. Sometimes they're incredibly short, with the first objective being to go talk to the "quest complete" person.

The plot is unfortunately rather slow-moving through this phase, but sets up a number of characters and situations that are important later.

Also, an important thing to know at this point: there are some additional quests which aren't technically MSQ but do need to be completed before you can reach Heavensward.

One starts with Minfilia and is called "A Recurring Problem". It will lead you to more difficult versions of the three primal trials you did earlier in MSQ.

The other is the Crystal Tower storyline. The starting point will be highlighted when you visit Mor Dhona for MSQ business.

Yes. It's a linear story. Quests get added sequentially. You're now going through the quests added during the 2.x patches. Yes, you will probably be over leveled. No, it probably won't really matter.

Quests after the x.0 patches of the game don't give many exp. Since when they came out you got no exp from them since you were max level already, them giving exp at all is basically just an added bonus for no reason at all.

So no worries about overleveling though it is really easy to overlevel anyways especially if you do your roulette's so i would advice to pick up a second job, maybe a tank or healer or well any other role than the one you are currently playing. Always nice to have some variety.

It’s probably not your ideal OP, but you can typically level 2 jobs at the same time as you progress the story. I suggest leveling a second to 50 and splitting xp, or you will be over leveled.


That said there really is no penalty for being over leveled..so you do you.

If you are in a rush to get through the story at this point I would suggest a skip or quit the game. You have an absolute massive amount of phenomenal story ahead but it may be to much for you to handle.

You got about 10 years of content ahead of you. Aside from trimming off some the fat in ARR, almost nothing has been cut from the game, allowing new players to experience the entire storyline (unlike some MMORPGs). The parts leading up to Heavensward can be a little dull, and it does prevent you from reaching new areas to do later job quests, but I find everything afterwards is worth experiencing.

Don't look at the number of quests you need to do, instead treat each expansion as a full game worth of story. If you feel you're wasting experience, then consider leveling multiple jobs as you play through the game.

2.0 (ARR) takes you through 1-50.
2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 are ARR patches so they don't give much experience. They were released when level 50 was the maximum level.

3.0 (Heavensward) takes you through 50-60.
3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 are Heavensward patches so they don't give much experience. They were released when level 60 was the maximum level.

4.0 (Stormblood) takes you through 60-70.
4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and 4.5 are Stormblood patches so they don't give much experience. They were released when level 70 was the maximum level.

5.0 (Shadowbringers) takes you through 70-80.
5.1, 5.2, 5.3, 5.4 and 5.5 are Shadowbringers patches so they don't give much experience. They were released when level 80 was the maximum level.

6.0 (Endwalker) takes you through 80-90.
6.1 and 6.2 are Endwalker patches.

All of these expansions and their patches are one giant, never-ending story. Many of the sidequests give additional context to the story, especially the blue ones which unlock things, but aren't required to enjoy and understand the story.

If you over-level, it doesn't matter. The only level that matters is the level of the Main Story Quest, because that blocks access to new areas and its content. The level of your class is only relevant if it's below the level of this quest.

You can try to optimize it by leveling secondary classes by switching weapon, but trying to min-max it that way is not fun in my opinion. When you want to level other classes, you can do it easily and casually by doing daily roulettes.

One small bit of advice. You will be over the level of the content you are doing especially if you have the road to 80 buff. Sometimes massively over leveled. As long as your gear is adequate for the content you are doing don't spend a fortune in gil on the marketboard to get gear for your actual level.

For example: If you are in the level 50 2.x quests and are level 70 (I went through this recently) as long as your gear is at least for level 50 it is good enough. Don't let anyone push you into spending a small fortune on level 70 HQ gear on the Market Board. Some people in leveling instances can on occasion be pretty rude and snobby about gear.

People can be rude and snobby (I recall dealing with that early on), but people are also not paying attention to keeping their gear even the same level. I had a slow run of Grand Cosmos last night and I spotted a level 63 piece on one of the DPS (along with a bunch of weathered gear). I didn't mind too much as I was the healer and everything was generally fine, but things go a bit smoother for everyone if people take the time to keep their gear up to date. You can make some mistakes and take some hits.

A good chunk of post ARR quests is almost entirely filter, and very far from phenomenal storytelling. It's long ben maligned by pretty much everyone as a slog. Even after the reduction of quests, it's still needlessly long. But don't let your bias get in the way.

Going back to the OP. Post-ARR/Expansion quests don't give much in the way of EXP. So you won't outlevel the story. If you are just wanting to reach Heavensward, don't be afraid to skim some of the story. I'd recommend sitting through 2.4 into the 2.55 conclusion as that does setup your adventures in Heavensward. Not to mention, it's fairly good. With that said, you'll have access to New Game+. So if you do skip some story now. You can always go back later.

You're not reading it wrong, and it used to be around 100 quests until SE squished it a bit. I'll refrain from mentioning how many MSQs it requires to get to Endwalker. If you're worried about being over leveled, don't be.

Nothing to it but to do it, buy a skip, or quit. Up to you.

notice I said to make sure you were up to date for the content you are doing. I got crapped on in a dungeon for wearing 70 gear while I am level 77 but I was in a 60 dungeon. 70 gear was more than adequate for the dungeon in question.

I've never encountered that. I mean, I do inspect gear if I noticed somebody is taking more damage than they should, but I can't recall a single situation where somebody had encouraged somebody to buy better gear.

The only time I have mentioned it (or seen somebody else mention it) is if somebody is wearing incredibly low gear for the dungeon e.g. Wearing some pieces of level 5 gear in a level 30 dungeon.

Most people aren't checking your gear as standard unless you really, really mess up or they notice something odd.

You also seemed to make up lies there. The last part leasing up to ultima doesn't require 2 hours uninterrupted. It's split into 3 different dungeons and you can take breaks between them...

First of all. I'm trying to get access to the areas to do provision turn ins for GC for seals. I would also like to get mats for crafting as I really enjoy gathering and crafting.

Second of all, I'm sorry but the story line in this game is garbage. I like the game well enough but I see so many fanbois foaming at the mouth over the story. I only do the blue quests and the MSQs aside from tribals. I'm leaving all the side quests in case I want to level other jobs. I haven't even looked at roulettes yet.

You are entitled to your opinion, but it seems rather short sighted to call the entire story garbage when you aren’t even in the 1st expansion.

We are talking “the Lord of the Rings is garbage” when you are like…just getting to Bree. Maybe Rivendell.

So, I say this with no malice: if you don’t like the story, you will very likely not like this game. It is more of an interactive novel/tv show than an actual game-game.

I encourage you to try at least the free trial content but if you still decide that you hate it, or that there is nothing for you to do, consider that a) the things everyone else is enjoying just isn’t your thing, or that b) it will be on you to invent your own fun to keep yourself entertained.

At the end of the day, this game is what it is, with lots of things to like and dislike…but it’s not likely to change drastically this late into development- if you aren’t having fun, don’t force yourself to. Even if I hope you will stick with this one, you should only play (and pay) if you are having fun.

You could skip the majority of blue quests as well as they're usually opening up optional dungeons, tribal quests and other side content you don't need to do immediately. If any of them are required to continue the MSQ, the game will give you a warning when it's first appropriate to do them, then again when you reach the point in the MSQ they are needed to continue if not already done.

FFXIV is different from a lot of MMOs in that the story drives the game instead of being an afterthought. I know that the ARR story is not all that impressive but the long term story is worth it if you like stories in gaming and some of what happens in ARR is important later on. If you're not really into game stories, then buying the story skip is an option (or you can rapidly skim through dialog and skip all but a few unskippable cutscenes.

But you do need complete MSQ one way or another as most side content has some tie to the main story and so is unlocked by completing relevant parts of the MSQ.

Used to be about 100 quests inbetween which is what myself and many others wne thorough. .
