Multiple characters... why?

This is a question i wish a representative of SE to answers me, are developers planing onto some sort of benefit or not even a benefit but give us something we can use as a "reason" to have more than 1 character?, as right now we all know there no real reason to have more than 1 single character unless it be to play with friends in diferent worlds.

Examples of some reasons they could give us to play multiple characters but without make it a "MUST HAVE" (yes only examples);

1.- Have 1 character peer world and use it to interact betwen all world's in any way like lets say sent items cross-worlds betwen our own characters? (tbh i think this be a bad idea for multiple reasons like the mess up on world's economy but who knows maybe it be allowed in a similar manner but for unique and untradable gear or something else,im just givin ideas)

2.-Allow us to pick one of our characters to log in as it, and use other of our characters in that same account as a NPC fellow (allowing us of course to interact with it at certain degree like selectin its job and gear and maybe a "behavior"). who knows?, maybe it could even be a more advanced kind of "mule character" for when you play gatherer classes by havin your secondary character follow you and hold items for you for extra space.

3.-View story of a certain content like quest or seasonal events from diferent points of view. hell i would like have a bad guy and a good guy characters.

4.-Make critical decicions that affect deply your character development/growth you cant undo or redo on 1 single character. Like lets say you get forced to take a decicion that will give you as reward some amazing ability/spell suitable for only 1 job and you wont be able to change or pick two afterwards, so every char you make can have diferent abilities specialized. (however i dont really like this last idea either strictly as it sounds, but is just an idea)

Anyways to make it short... will Developers give us a good reason to use multiple characters? This a question i wish Developers answer to us, not speculations from other gamers, however yes i would like hear the opinion of everyone about this.

Im talkin only for me self when i say, i wish they gave us a reason to play diferent characters that dont affects the gaming of those who decided play only 1, but still give us the satisfaction of play multiple characters beyond the reason of do it only to have a diferent lookin character.

More options, I guess?

I can join The Immortal Flames, or The Maelstrom on an alt, if I really cared that much about the story of the other two.

I can experience levelling up on that character, if I'm bored of endgame, etc.

I dunno, I don't really plan on doing any of that. It's just a nice feature to have. More than one character isn't really a big thing.

It's probably inconceivable for a person who spent the past 2 years getting 50 on all jobs, but I actually enjoy creating new characters to specialize in certain areas and experience the updated game from a different point of view.

It's just freeing up player options without slapping us with a new fee for every character we make. What's so wrong with that?

Im not complaining about have multiple characters, indeed i enjoy having multiple, i have 3, 1 on each nation, i do for the diferent story and just for diferent lookin on chars, everyones know my characters so not hiddin away from ppl as some others use them for, however im tempted lol.

Still i feels like it not enough of a good reason , would like something else, more reasons as to have multiple characters than just last described, i doubt you get nto understand me unless you be one of those few like me that want play more than 1.

Dual Boxing was not definetivelly on my mind, but use only 1 at a time as somesort of NPC fellow would be neat.

I doubt you'll get any better reasons for it other than, "why not?"

Maybe SE should make a survery about their gamers that want to play more than 1 single character on their own account to know more about those customers, maybe they could get something new from it even for those players that only play 1. why not? dont hurts to make some customer research.

Why have multiple characters in any MMO? Variety is the spice of life, etc. There doesn't need to be a special reason.

SE doesn't really need to give us a special reason to play multiple characters, they just need to not continue the archaic practice of charging a fee per character, which no other MMO does (and which SE wisely has said they'll stop doing in 2.0). That's enough for me.

I like having multiple characters but considering how 1 character can become every job it does take a little bit out of it. So I think SE should consider adding some small benefits to having multiple characters. One thing I've always wanted is to have all of my characters hang out in one Mog House.

BTW Bad Omen I need an invite to the LS!

Here's a reason for multiple characters. It entices you to play longer.

More money for SE.

While I'm not saying XIV needs to copy everything from every game, the Legacy system from The Old Republic looks interesting. Connecting each of your characters on your account into a sort of 'Family Tree' with husbands, wives, rivals, allies, brothers, sisters, etc.

Yoshi-p did this for people who like to roleplay they can switch to diff char that why.

First of all. I'm quite baffled to why people are even questioning this act. It doesn't hurt anyone in any way. So just accept it and be happy that you can create another character whenever you desire too.

For reasons I can summon a few

- Like it has been said, for the many roleplayers out there

- The fact that old players might want to experience the 2.0 version with a new character without deleting their old ones. (I fall in that category)

- Those people that actually enjoy creating different characters. Just for the kicks of it.

In any case we got nothing to lose and I welcome this future addition.

• 1 fee each character scare off new players. With the option for multiple characters they can discover themselves that they only need 1 character
• mules for a better inventory managemant (woods in this character, metals in the other character, ...)
• Storylines and roleplay

*ahem*

1.) More storage space without paying for more retainers.

2.) roleplaying purposes and replay value.

3.) Some people, like me, are mother****ing alt junkies.

Bottom line, they're not forcing you or even asking you to use the extra character spaces, they're giving them as a bonus for those who do want to use them.

And with the mailbox system of 2.0, (I think) you'll be able to have 1 character specialize in making and selling stuff (though maybe not repairing :-/) for your other characters to use - if they're on the same server.

My reason?

~To experience 2.0 from beginning to end.
~Join Maelstrom and Immortal Flames.
~Experience the main story from the prospective of all three nations.
~To make 2 other badass characters with semi troll names for lulz.

Square is still limiting it to 1 character per basic account (12.99). I believe it'll be 15 bucks for the 8 slots all together. I don't think they want to lock off features for those who only wish to pay the basic fee.

Why do you want an incentive to create more than one character? Why do you think you deserve an incentive? It's just an option there for those that want it.

As it is, right now there are two main reasons:

1) To experience the other two cities' versions of the early Main Scenario quests, and to check out the other grand companies.
2) More storage, more storage, more storage.

Finally, more unscrupulous people might want more than one character so they have somewhere else to go when they screw up their reputation on one character.

(more like a normal FF using the Gambit system from XII? (which i actually think would be great for the choco's too)
They could be specific things/classes/hybrids/jobs that our mains cant.

You could also have them live in our house/Company house, Offer quests related to out home city/GC have jobs that can collect some resources (which is how you level some aspect of them up based on success).

Then also have them playable maybe have some limits on them. 3 classes 1 job?
Maybe have them available for mini games?
(this is based on the idea of on the same server, each server would need to be independent)

Giving us long as hard quest (not one like the ruddy AF weapons, that's actually fun and interesting).

That sounds a lot like TOR's companion system but centered on alts. Would be interesting.

I'd like to be able to use my alts as aesthetic-only pets and mounts. ^.^

I keep meaning to try that lol..

I would love to be able to send my alts down to work at the chocobo stables for spme extra gil. Miquote prostitution would probably be a major hit with the community here as well.
