Parley sucks

After reading an interview about 2.0, I hear that not many people have complained about parley... So I wanted to take this moment to add my voice to the hatred of the minigame.

Its clunky, slow, totally removes me from the immersion of the quests its in, and its not fun ever. Please remove it from 2.0.

Only did parley once or twice and i just clicked stuff til it was over glad Yoshi hates it to.

Yeah, I had forgotten about it too. But now that I remember it (and remember how much I hate it), I'm hoping we can convince Yoshi-P to do away with it, since he doesn't seem sure.

I hope they can replace parley with another mini game.
Parley is most time to easy (you only need a bit math during the game) and the NPC to weak.

i thought it was kinda hilariously bad, but you can only get away with something like that if the game is good

in the 1up interview, Yosh-P already said that he does not like parley. He also noted that he is not sure whether it will be removed, but it is being considered.

I think the base idea of parley isn't a bad one. Negotiate through diplomacy is an interesting option that could definately be fun and change the pace of just stabbing anything that gets in your way, however fun stabby stabby is. In the overall story it fits i think because while your in opposition with the beast tribes.

Your also part of a group that is seeking the bring them into the fold of the resistance against the Empire

It sucks because the mini game itself is blah. But Diplomacy controlled by an AI is a crap-shoot of Bleh in most any game. Theres just few if any ways to really make a back and forth negotiation either feel real, be non-repetitive or feel like anything but pushing numbers around. theres no real way to bluff when you have an advantage and not have it feel like just more RNG chance.

I'm sure if it was more written out like a story/ conversation it would be better but its will still be kinda the same thing.

Oh man, I just did the second Weaver class quest tonight >_> and parley four different people was horrible. It takes forever. I hated it. Maybe if it wasn't so damn slow between turns.... but waiting on it takes like 30 seconds at least each round.

Parley, Much like the rest of tanaka era ffxiv had potential but was not that well thought out and at best implemented in a half assed way.

Vanguard has an AWESOME parley minigame.. its its own advancement pillar in itself... You tube it, its like a card game that you play. Lots of fun

They will remove Parley in 2.0, dont worry.

Well, they should either fix it or remove it. It isn't fun. If they could build it up into a fun, engaging system - then by all means keep it. But otherwise, just scrap it.

I've found parley can either be incredibly easy, or stupidly hard depending on what kind of options the game gives you vs the NPC. Go Go RNG!

If they remove Parley entirely rather than improve it, I hope they have another mini game to replace it.

My experience with parley: I remove a couple of blocks since I'm not given anything good. Raise my bar a little. Icons get rearranged. NPC able to remove like 5 of them, drops my bar back to 0.

SO MUCH FUN.

I don't hate it, but it could have been made a lot better and could have also been designed to fit a little better for the purpose with which it was used.

It also would have been slightly better if you could challenge other players instead of only do it with NPCs.

My biggest problem with parley is that it takes so long and it isn't very difficult. After you choose your selection, it takes forever for the tiles to 'move'. There are limited abilities for you to use. It's not very exciting or challenging.

I understand why they placed it in. During the main quest-line (which you can complete with ANY type of disciple), parley is there as an alternative to fighting mobs. During DoL/DoH quests, parley is there as some sort of 'challenge' (because SE wants you to beat the quest with only THAT job).

If they CHANGED parley, I'd be okay with it. If it stayed as it is but took less time to update between turns, or had more abilities to add difficulty, it might be more fun. Perhaps it would be even more fun if it were changed completely. Maybe it could be a card game with the cards being the same topics as they are now... that way there is some strategy to what you 'play' and when.

i guess i was the only one who liked parley, lol

It's not bad in concept but it needs a LOT more depth.

Every thread complaining about Parley gets my "like".

I like the concept, but it is too slow.

I've always been intrigued about implementing Diplomacy in MMO's. But the thing that sucks about parley in the main storyline is no matter if you attack or use parley you get the same end result!

Sure the NPC conversations and animations are different, but you convince the beastmen to consider joining your cause against the Empire.

I remember Vanguard they had the annoying gibberish with it tied to a card game.

The initial premise, I thought was to haggle with the NPC's selling and buying gear from you. As well as some story elements.

However either way whatever minigame they add. It needs to not take so long, the effort in doing it taking some thought, and the player being rewarded for taking the time to do it if successful.

Such a mechanic will be abused by those that are good at it. So... They can put a limit on how often you can parley in a day. (unless it's a story/sidequest). That way they can explain away that the NPC has grown weary of your conversation and needs to take a rest or drink a glass of water. lol

It's just silly, because I see way worse on the forum for the use of insulting another player, yet they seem to get tender when I agree that Parley is horrible.

Parley really just needs to be removed, and replaced with Triple Triad already.

No, parley is horrible - minigames are awesome tho! Something you can play while waiting for people to arrive, something like a certain card game we've seen in some other FF *COUGH*

The mini-game itself is pretty terrible... But what makes it beyond horrible is how SLOW it is! I don't need to see EVERY SINGLE TILE move into place, it's obnoxious and boring.

The entire idea that the waiting time is longer than the actual game should be enough to determine how bad it is.

Parley is a neat simple little game concept but needs a lot of work if they choose to keep it,... but I really do hope there will be a card came or some sort maybe like tetra master or some other type of game that could be played in game for fun or gambling between friends, etc.

Yeah, I'm not against minigames... But there's no denying that parley is just out and out terrible.
