More and more after hearing this guy I just can't seem to shake off that wonderful feeling that he 'gets it'.

He knows how the player base feels and empathizes with it. That allows me to trust the fact that he's got some really good ideas boiling in there as well.

I might not agree with every single thing released or how certain things pan out. But my overall faith that this game will continue to get better is pretty solidified by this guy.

I'm pretty sure he's the only guy in Square Enix who has actually, you know, played other MMORPGs.

Which kind of blows my mind when I think about it.

What Yoshi says here is 100% truth, had they just said "ok we're closing up shop on 14" then that would be the end of the FF series, no Versus 13, no 25th anniversary no 13-2 no nothing. On top with how the loud voices of players felt about 13 on top of 14 it really showed they had lost their way. The move SE made putting Yoshi in charge of this game is so out of left field yet the best move they could have made. In japan he may have been known for making that Dragon Quest arcade game which generated a lot of revenue for SE but here in America/anywhere else he was an unknown. But pretty much from Day 1 he showed that he wasn't out of touch with the current generation of gamers and his vision of what an MMO is for the most part resonates with how everyone else feels about it.

While honestly it's unfair to say if Tanaka's full vision would have be bad seeing as the game was released incomplete to beat the rush on upcoming new mmos, but it's very refreshing to see how they are willing to work hard to fix their mistake and create an MMO which can truly resonate with the FF fanbase.

Then we also have the Agni's Philosophy which was revealed, if they can truly get this engine to work then the concept of seeing high caliber SE games in a 1-2 yr window could become a reality seeing as said engine is suppose to cut down on cost and production time which will not only allow gamers to enjoy more SE games but also help them generate more revenue with less investments needing to be made.

Well worded friend. Thanks to Yoshida the FF series will continue like it should. One game released on cross-platforms, specially between console and pc, will allow the widest variety of players to play and enjoy the game thus creating the biggest possible fanbase for that one game thus creating the maximum possible sales for that game. ^^

I always had faith in Yoshi-P..from the day I read how he was a big Final Fantasy fan growing up and played MMO (like me!)...I have faith he will deliver an epic MMO fit for the FF standards =D

I think the only real problem with what he's saying is that by "the whole company" being behind him, FFXI is basically being thrown to the wolves.

not any more he isnt, if you read interviews, he says he forced the other devs to all play other mmos lol

I'd like to know what his plans are after 2.0 release - not in a gaming way, what are his immediate plans for the game or community, but what are HIS plans as a person, after the grueling task of bringing this game around? The man deserves a good break, a week or two to just exhale and enjoy life and the paycheques he's receiving no doubt.

I'm curious to why (unless it was mentioned and I missed it) why Yoshi-P was chosen for this role instead of others, what made him stand out to the higher ups? They only had one chance, obviously they chose well, I'm just curious to what made him the ideal guy at the time.

Actions speak louder than words. Luckily it's clear they're putting a lot of effort into changing it.
Let's hope 2.0 plays as good as it looks.

I have a friend that doesn't even play the game, however; I have sent him pretty much all the interviews concerning 2.0. He still thinks Yoshi is a great guy and cant see anyone else in his position right now.

I have always had a great deal of respect for Yoshida-san. Even when I've had my doubts about the direction of the game, and whether or not I'd like certain things.
He seems to care a great deal about the players and his co-workers. I have a great respect for his determination to keep promises. And taking on this huge project when many felt all hope was lost..
He is a great man. Someday, when this game succeeds, he will be a legend. ;3

(No disrespect to Tanaka-san of course! He is also a great man, and I have loved his past work. He gave birth to this game that I enjoy very much.)

Nah. Someone would complain the lights are all wrong. Someone would complain about the time of day. Someone would complain about the location. Someone would complain that the graphics are a downgrade.

Another thing we need to remember is that in Japanese business, a lot is built upon respect for your superiors and the need to earn your way up the corporate ladder from the very bottom. Based on what we know about Yoshida's previous work and background, this makes the move to appoint him to his current position even more interesting. This sort of thing doesn't happen every day.

It was going to take the authority of someone very high up in the company (read: Wada) to solve Square Enix's problems. A line needed to be drawn in the sand and, by the twelve, did it get drawn!

I have always had a huge amount of respect for Yoshi-P agreeing to take on FFXIV, a project that would either make or break his career, from what it seems, and the direction FFXIV is heading I think he personally has a bright future ahead of him, and after FFXIV.

Yoshi-P shows he cares about the community, he listens to us all and makes his informed decisions based on what will be best for the game, he has to be the best producer/director of a game I have seen.
