For newer releases of DCs and servers in the future...

it'd be nice if before hand people should queue up their characters for a transfer say a week early. What the queue would essentially do is start the transfer for those characters immediately after the servers go up. I feel as if this would alleviate a lot of frustration and it would give priority to the people that are going to matter the most on those servers which are the people that want to move there, rather than the visitors or the fresh accounts.

I realize it'd probably be a minor improvement but if it could be done it'd be welcome. I'm not trying to point the finger at SE and blame them for everything, just trying to suggest something that seems like it could help.

This is all short term stuff. If you don't feel the need to rush then you can just simply wait a week and have no problem.

Took about 10 minutes for my character to be moved.

It really wasn't that bad, they send you an email when its done.

No person's characters matter more than anyone else's. Get in line with everyone else.

while it did take a few minutes of refreshing to get the page, the transfer itself only took about 5-10 minutes. not really a huge deal. the bigger problem, especially on Seraph (curse you all choosing the same server! XD ) is new characters

At least you could get the ball rolling almost right away. The additional servers for EU took a long time until they allowed transfers.

I knew someone would say this and I find it funny because you act like there aren't priorities in life. It's not exactly unfair for there to be such either.

It's not unthinkable to have priorities start from the existing players that are transferring over, leading to the players making new accounts and ending with the players visiting. For some reason people like yourself act as if you're being put down or told you don't matter when that's not the case. This is just simple logic.

Actually you have no idea what level the character I am planning to move is. The difference is I don't have the overblown sense of entitlement that makes people demand THEIR case deserves priority service. No one does. Get in line with the rest of us.

Is it really a problem?

It took 10 minutes. Really really fast.

Materia and the new EU servers were locked out on day 1.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I didn't assume anything about the level of character you were planning to move. I didn't even assume that you were moving.

And you want to talk about entitlement, I think your idea of lack of priorities points more towards entitlement than my idea that different groups should have different priority.

But I understand that you can't make a valid point without putting words in mouths of other people and acting like a child.

How are they supposed to queue you to a place that doesn't exist yet?

Words in your mouth? Hardly. The only direct reference to you was that you had no idea what character I was moving. Everything else was general.

Saying that everyone gets in line is exactly the OPPOSITE of entitlement. My priority is that everyone gets an equal and fair chance. That means a line where no one gets a special place. Everyone equal.

You were the one that wants special cases.

It's first come first serve. Wake up at 5 or 6 AM like some of us did if you want an easy time to transfer. Those of us who "actually want to be there" were awake and ready to go.

Also, it's pretty laughable that only people trying to transfer their mains matter when playing on multiple servers is a thing & new players are needed to keep the game growing.

Forget entitlement, Myrany, what gets me is the lack of patience. A few hours or a day isnt a life changing issue by any means. The server will still be there tomorrow and the day after and the day after that so..I dont see the rush.

Never have never will. When Materia opened I tried, didnt work, so went to bed and curled up with a good book. Xferred the following day and hey...Materia was still there.

IIRC you can't set up a transfer to a world until you've opened the "choose/create character" screen for that world at least once, which seems an odd restriction to make arbitrarily so I assume it creates some kind of necessary connection in the backend of the system.

If it's correct that you can't transfer without doing that first, then it's impossible to set up transfers to a world before that world exists.

I am curious as to how you came to this conclusion.

If anything, it looks to me to be the complete opposite.

I bet you get angry when you dont wake up early to get in lines for new products then cry when they are sold out when you go late evening. Probably also ask to speak to the manager when it happens.

Because it makes sense to me. If you have people who know they're going to transfer then why wouldn't you set up a system to have them be able to pre-queue their accounts when the servers go live?

It also makes sense to bar new characters from said servers for the first few hours. If any new player wanted to join those servers they likely would be turned off by the hassle of the wait or not want to deal with any other issues that come up anyways. New alt accounts aren't overwhelming important as most of those will likely be forgotten, so again, new characters would probably receive less priority altogether.

And finally travelers would receive the least priority in all of this until the dust settles. New characters and transfers alike should be settled first before the doors to travelers open. People shouldn't be hopping onto a new DC right away and adding to the congestion.

This just makes the most sense to me. This isn't about anyone else being better or targeting anyone specifically. It just makes logical sense.

This is what entitlement looks like. Again, I ask how are they supposed to set you up to move somewhere that's not online yet? You talk of sense, but this idea of yours is lacking. That aside, all this just over-complicates a simple matter.

Given the absolute garden I've seen of green sprouts on Marilith, it definitely isn't the transfers keeping that place hopping.

I think people took the intent behind the suggestion a smidge too far. On the surface it does seem like a no-brainer; I doubt OP spoke from a place of privileging transfers. But it does create inequalities: would the queues open for all Regions at the same time? Would the timing be too disparate to give every Region a chance (for example if they open at a time that is peak/normal for NA but too late/early for EU or JP, etc)? The time at one joins the queue for transfer becomes even more crucial, and anyone who can't fork over the money for the pre-queue will have an even bigger line to contend with in front of them at the day of DC/server launch.

So yeah. Could create more problems than it solves. But again, it doesn't seem like a bad suggestion on the outset - nor does the OP read like an inflammatory/angry diatribe.

Not sure what happened in this thread but I think having the option to prepare a character transfer to a new server before it goes up would be a good thing. Ideally the actual transfer would happen while still under maint. It would still be first come first serve, you'd just be able to apply ahead of time. Dont know what this has to do with who matters more, it's just streamlining the process for people who already know where they want to transfer.

AHAhahahahaha. Square Enix prioritizing existing players over appealing to new ones. That's a good one. I got my guffaw for the day.

The servers are down in maint, so no, no one can xfer since the from and to servers are offline.

Time for new server start is often prone to adjustment, delay or postponement. You cant "apply ahead of time" since you dont know what that time will be, also lets not forget what you get when you try "mass transfers."

Congestion and server instability, so thats a non starter.

Would you really not want to be able to play the game for a week to get priority in a queue that lasts maybe 30 minutes at the most?

Because that's what would happen. Once you confirm the transfer, you can't play the game. Otherwise, something may happen between the time you confirm and the time your character is supposed to transfer that would make it ineligible.

Outside of those who applied just before world transfer was taken down for maintenance, I don't know of anyone who had to wait more 30 minutes on Tuesday to complete the transfer process. They were all happy with how quick it was when we had been afraid that the number of players transferring would have lead to lengthy queues.

And that's even with all the players creating new characters for bonuses or whatever reason, not to mention all the Travelers that wanted a look at the new worlds or at YoshiP as he was visiting Seraph.

As others pointed out, if the servers are down for maintenance then there is nothing to transfer your character to.

The reason is because of your phrasing more than anything imo. The idea behind having transfers being queued is fine on its own and I'm sure people would be willing to discuss the pros and cons of that like some have already been doing. What's pulled me specifically out from behind the curtain (cause I can't speak for others) is mainly this:

English isn't my first language so sometimes I word things poorly. I do feel like many people did however understand the concepts I put forth, they simply choose to interpret it in the worst way possible.

Also I feel as if I was baited because when you're repeatedly forced to try and re-explain or reiterate chances are your wording can shift and become even more open to interpretation. This gave people the chance to continue to misinterpret it and fling insults at me.

And yes, I know lashing out isn't pleasant, but it's backward to just sit there and let people freely snub you over and over again.

Your original idea isn't bad though it does have flaws as some have pointed out. It's the attitude that transfers are somehow more important and even going so far as to suggest the servers should be locked to any existing player excited about starting fresh and being a newbie again (which my FC there has a LOT of) that is getting you some heat. No certain type of situation is more important or essential to the DC's success than anyone else.
