Ranked is at its most active during the beginning of Season and at the very last few days. There's no point to play it if you already have your ranked rewards from previous Season as you can get anything else (achievements, currency, Series rewards) faster from Casual.
Its a mix of things. PvP isn't popular in this game, its late in the season and they didn't add anything new to the vendors so the crystals you get are worthless. Topple that with de-ranking and a lot less people are bothering to queue. Yes it sucks to get people in crystal that probably shouldn't be crystal, but this game being as hyper casual as it is just means those people are less likely to keep playing when they keep de-ranking. Also certain maps the queue dies down. I've noticed the wind map has the longest queue times.
It's almost like not having rank decry has and will continue to be a terrible design the dev team still stubbornly clings to.
Knew this was coming, Nobody particularly cares about Ranked anything in the first place so late season is just gonna be worse for people when trying to matchmake in CC.
Once people get the ranked rewards for higher tiers they stop caring.
Up the tomestone rewards for winners and you'll see people pouring in.
I mean there's sadly no real reason to renew crystal ranking unless you want to throw yourself at the top 100+ titles and such. Most of those frames are pretty ugly though and since the crystal accent doesn't have year options there's no real point. I did some at the start of the season, but it got really boring really quickly this time around.
Rewards would need to be increased for winner and the currency would need something worthwhile to use on.
Even with decay they current system allows people to hit point X and then just stop playing as the highest achieved rating/rank counts for the season's end.
At this rate the active playerbase will keep dimnishing in the Ranked side of things, there's only so many of same borders with different number anyone cares about getting. Even the top1, 30 and 100 titles etc. are one and done.
There will probably be the same handful of people who will play it each season as it has been so far, doesn't help that any newcomers will face extra difficulties since some of them keep running alts to mess with other players.
I pretty much already knew this was coming before Season 3 starts. Now, well…….ppl got what they asked for and uhh. Long que times, gotta filter out the ppl that doesn’t deserve these ranks. It’s the silence that got me laughing.
I don't know why people keep bringing up about who deserves a rank or not, Crystal was free before and is still easy, with how casual the whole mode is even top 100 has wildly fluctuating skill level. There's only small group that play it for sake of playing, most of us got our rewards S1 and stopped because there's absolutely no point without new rewards.
Casual is way better and faster for getting anything else, so of course people would move over. There's no point sweating a match in Ranked for the same rewards again, when you can just roll Casual lobbies and get your achievements or newer Series rewards.
Not arguing over that. I knew casual is going to be the meta going forward. For the majority, it was a challenge. I said to the forums many times. Ppl don’t have a problem in reaching crystal, no one likes to rely on 4 other players to reach crystal with a de-ranking system.
Casual games are always sh*t though.

I mean... like 50% of them are though... but like the glorious balance and what not though... xD
The other day I had no less then 4 games where a DRG SAM or NIN had less damage than the healer. I also had quite a few where the healer had 17k or less healing for the entire match.
To be fair I did have a casual match where someone basically just walked around and used "Sorry" quick chat every so often a few weeks ago. Maybe more of tome greeding than win trading. How lazy would you need to be when you can coast in most pve content.
i love how the second i said 'sounds like win trading' i see three 'You cant see this persons post because they are blocked' pop up, truly marvelous. love how predictable people can be.
