I'm hoping for this forever..
Btw, yoshi-p hinted we'll have the possibility to build a personal ship/airship in the future.
Personal sail-boat for lazy fishing {Yes please.}
i hope all of that does happen. but i hope they put a tad more detail into the aesthetics of it.. specifically the boat. it looked like stop motion and then a rake pops out of the boat and then.. yeahhh
In the E3 interviews, it sounded like Personal Housing wasn't going to be in place at the release of 2.0. So that would mean no ship building either.
If we ever get stuff like ship and house building, I will say it now, this will be my favorite MMO ever and I'll never have a reason to leave. :D
Ship and cake building in 2.0 please.
I'd love to be able to build ships with my free company and have battles on the high seas against other free companies.
I wanna have airship battles...
Yoshi mentioned we would be able to build ships and airships in the basement of our houses some time in 2.0 (probably not at launch). I hope they still plan on this, would be awesome if it comes!
No it will never happen, because it was Tanaka's concept and everyone here hates his concepts...
well that was team Tanaka i wouldn't get my hopes up.
I think this type of massive project is exactly what DOL and DOH need to stay strongclasses in their own right. Facilitating DOW/DOM classes with weapons is the bread and butter of Craft classes. But large scale, longer term progressive projects like ships, air ships etc could easily be the Crafting "end-Game" of FF14 and i think would make the supply side of classes even more attractive.
The usual issue in many games that include crafting is that without large projects besides gear is that crafting loses its "epicness" so to speak. and become a class of crank out some stuff quick so i can do other stuff. Mostly because it has no group or collective project that can motivate an entire group to work towards.
Ships, ait ships, castles and forts are all big and worth large scale projects that can put excitment into players who are playing Crafting and gathering classes. and even motivate those who would otherwise not be as interested in making clothing to pitch in and maybe even play more crafting classes because there is something epic to do with them.
FF14 has a unique chance i think to cash in on the prevelance of crafting classes and skills in this game by putting some really epic craft goals like ships.
In many games crafting is a one click system, so even building something like a ship, has no impact. But if you, as a carpenter, would be able to Fasion parts of a ship, then get on the side of a skeleton hull and put effort into working on it, to get the visual of yourself and LS working on it. and then in time, so roll out a complete ship that you know your ls worked on, but also SAW them work on, could be a level of epic crafting that i think no game has attempted.
pshh... i don't want to build no stinken rickety tub of rot wood.....id much rather build that fortress I've been planning for months got a nice view in cortheis all mapped out.
This is just pure speculation but... what if ships were implemented in a way to "discover" areas revealed by the influence of Dalamud. The thing is, how do you integrate a ship system into XIV and make it interesting. In XI Selbina-Mhaura offered pirate fights as well as an NM which would pwn any low levels that aggroed it lol. Then the ship from Whitegate-Nashmaru had 2 NMs, one that would spawn pretty frequently and another with a mysterious spawn condition. So with the above they gave people a reason to travel rather then using shortcuts.
When it comes to 14 the shit we have atm is easily neglected cause of it's 15 min ride which offers no sense of danger or a single mob spawning on the top deck.
I feel like it would be interesting in perhaps areas which could be discovered would rotate at random variables, when you find a place it stays discovered for you for 1 week and you are able to let others travel there as long as you have the occupancy for it. Perhaps your ship travel will lead you to a town that reminds one of "Mysidia" from there you can learn about and open up the quest line for Meteor and Ultima. Another place you could discover is a place like "Mist Town" which you need to discover in order to work on obtaining the summon Mist Dragon. Another area which you could discover from traveling on boat is a place like the Ancient Library which could act as a hub which gives you hints as to the location of all the known "hidden" areas if you are able to defeat the mob inside the book that is protecting the information.
I just honestly don't see how else they could make ships "interesting" unless they integrate them in such a way that one is able to discover knew locations and if their ship allows it allow others to ride their ship to the place they discovered. I feel like ship building/sailing has a lot of potential, i'd be curious to know what Tanaka's vision on it was but I honestly believe the concept of sailing could work on Yoshida's vision to make this game a homage of FF taking the previous concept of other FF titles and making it apart of 14 so that players are able to enjoy those experiences in a group rather then a single player environment.
Open sea Titanictus and Ryugu Titan fishing anyone?
Tanaka was right on with his FFXIV concept i think... it would have been ... different as Final Fantasy games have been and then some. Yoshi is as awesome a director as i ever could have hoped for though. ... It's a good thing Yoshi is including Tanaka's concept into the game (Chocobo raising, house/ship building, gardens, castles, cakes, crafting...).
To clear things up, I don't really care if I can build my own boat. I just want my own little sailboat that I can live on for months at a time in game. Fishing the open seas. Would be fantastic.
i do think that something at least similar would be an important addition for crafters. Its unusual in most games for crafters to do more than just craft weapons and armor.
While it's important to stand out, it needs to be successful. I dont trust the shipbuilding would be any more than a disappointment.. so if there was something that our current team could do to change it up a bit then that would be great.
In an interview Yoshi said that housing will including building our own ships and airships...it just probably wont be right out the 2.0 gate.
It was sarcasm, but still, look at the game now and tell me that Tanaka's concepts still exist in this game. When 2.0 was announced and all those screenshots were released, everyone wanted to harp on Tanaka's less than stellar execution of his ideas in the game, but now everyone is praising Yoshi for a concept that he didn't come up with (Next thing you know they're going to praise him for Titan too... y'know the primal we were going to fight first but never happened and was the first to be shown in the "Making of a Realm" DVD from the collector's edition?)
Forget ship building. I want that onion hair style!
I've been leveling fishing recently and I have to join enthusiastically in this thread suggesting that we have our own fishing boats. I'd love to fish from my own boat...
You hear that SE?! The fishers demand it! We're quiet, and thoughtful, and those among us who don't bot are making reasonable requests! Sailboat {Can I have it?} {Yes, please.}
I'd love Company airships but only if they to back to FFXI style transport where it feels like traveling has some real impact, instead of being able to teleport anywhere at any time is easy as hell. Even Instant airship rides cheapen the exploration and travel.
If i could hop on a small personal boat out into a lake i would actually take up fishing.
i wonder how many organs it will cost to build our own ship/house
