Problems With FFXIV that SE should do something about.

EXP
The amount of exp needed to gain levels is way too high. First off there is really a lack of direction or anything on how your suppose to get exp besides doing guild leves which you are limited to 8 every 2 days or so. Even then if you do 8 guild levels the amount of exp is pretty abysmal once you hit skill level 20+. I got a gladiator to level 28 I occasionally logged in and did a few leves but after getting like 2-5k exp average of 3k when you need so much to get to the next level it just felt very frustrating and made me not want to log on the game much because the progress was way to slow

First off guildleves should give like 10-15% exp you need at your current level upon completion.

Besides grinding mobs over and over for levels there isn't any other ways to get exp. Whats worse is the game gives you no direction on where to go.

The game needs to give you direction on where you might want to go to exp on mobs, in interviews FFXIV like at E3 didn't SE say they wanted to get away from the pull kill mentality of FFXI? The exp grind seems far worse in 14 then it is in 11.

UI and Battle
UI, although it has been improved some it is still fairly unresponsive and commands take a fairly long time to execute. Still feels someone clunky and really designed with a gamepad in mind and not really keyboard and mouse. Simple functionality like being able to drag and drop my action commands on my hotbar, having a separate set of bars for each class so I don't have to redo them every time I want to switch classes. If your going to support switching classes at least give each one its on set of bars.

The pace of battle is very slow. There is a delay from when you hit the button on your hot bar to when it actual occurs in game. I want to see commands go off right when I hit the button not a few seconds later. Auto attack should also be added because spamming my 1 or 2 key a bunch isn't fun and really shouldn't take my resource bar for a basic attack.

Ease of Exploration Features
The game has been out over 6 months and there are no mounts. Having your own chocobos would be nice or at very least being able to rent them to get around faster. FFXIV limits how fast you can get around with anima the currency you need for teleports. This should probably be abolished because if you play a lot no doubt you will run out fast. Stuff like making a party is somewhat cumbersome because they have to be in front of you to invite them and there is no search or seek functions.

Probably take more development on this but flying mounts should be in the game. In the trailers it showed people with their own airship type device. Stuff like flight isn't in the game or close to being in it. Almost every modern MMO flying and exploration on the Z axis.

I am sure Yoshi P has played a lot of other MMOs and realizes they have a lot of quests while FFXIV has very few and they don't really give you anything. There should be a lot more quests and they should reward you with items you can use maybe a choice of a few items and they should give EXP. I never seen a MMO besides FFXI and FFXIV that do not give exp for finishing quests. It gives players another way to level then grinding mobs all day long.

Lack of Content
FFXIV lacks any type of dungeons, instincts, raids, battle fields, ect. FFXI had this stuff bcnm, assault, dynamis, salvage and abyssea. A good mmo needs content so people can fight bosses kill stuff and gear up their character FFXIV is really lacking in this department.

FFXI grind was much worse, and they didn't tell you where to exp either. Go explore and try things out, there are lots of good places. When you find a spot the sp/rank won't seem like much at all. You can get a rank a day(few hours) in the 40s without trying too hard, unless fatigue is high. You can get several ranks a day before the 40s.

In all the threads complaining about grinding, the majority of complainers are rank 20-30. I don't get it. The grind doesn't even really start until 35, then all you need is a party fighting the right mobs.

I think more content and UI improvements would make the other things a little more tolerable.

You have "/pcmd add" command for inviting people not in front of you (or am I wrong? I think it works that way) and there are search and seek functions indeed, yet they are a bit... hmmm... useless atm, I guess.

You're just re-posting issues that many other threads have already covered. Truth is there is a lot of work SE needs to do. Actually attempt to read through the threads, and go back a couple pages. You can't just view the main 25-30 topics on the first page and post a new thread if you don't see what you're looking for. There's also a this nifty thing called a 'search' bar at the top to find different topics. Do your homework first.

Solo is supposed to be slower than party leveling.

This is your personal opinion that is not shared with everyone. I do not want to get to max level solo in a month. Especially considering there is not really any endgame at the moment. FFXI was all about the journey, and I would like to see FFXIV stay that way.

Have you ever played an MMO before? This is how it works. Even if you play a "quest grinder" like WoW, Aion, or Rift, it's still grinding by killing mobs over and over... the only difference is you have a NPC tell you what to kill instead of choosing it yourself.

This I will partially agree with. Though really, if you just search around the camps of the guildleves you are capable of doing, you can easily find things to kill.

I disagree with this. Battles are actually pretty fast, unless you're taking on things way higher than you. And I don't know where you get the idea that there is a "few second delay". That's a gross overstatement. You can stack commands, but you need to wait for the animation of the last attack to finish before the next command will happen. I would rather have that than clipping every animation and making it look stupid. But when you press a button, the skill does go off... there's at most a half second delay for some abilities.

As for your complaint about spamming 1 and 2... that just shows you either never got to a decent level or you just didn't know what you were doing. I will agree that you press your basic attacks a lot, but I pressed 1 and 2 just as much if not more in Rift building up "combo dots" and then hitting my "finisher".

So you want to abolish the feature designed to help Casuals because you feel it's "unfair" for Hardcores that they always run out? Perhaps you should learn to manage your resources and try not being selfish about it.

I will agree that I would like to see Chocobos and Airships sooner rather than later though.

As for Quests and Content, I agree with you there as well. I think everyone would agree on that point.

First of all, I think you mean SP, not EXP. Secondly, I've found the leveling rate to be very, very gradual, which is a good thing. You don't need to be max level in four weeks. The journey is just as important as the destination. I really don't want to play a game for weeks before I can finally start having fun. The SP curve is very gradual, as it should be. If you don't pay attention to it, the ranks just fly by.

The first paragraph I agree with. There are a bunch of minor quirks like this that still need to be ironed out. However, I disagree with everything said in the second paragraph. No, the pace of battle isn't too slow. Command executions have a slightly delay, but that's been mostly fixed (at launch this would have been a valid complaint, but it's been more or less fixed at this point. No, auto-attack isn't needed. If you're spamming that much you need to examine your play style, because you're doing something wrong.

Chocobos are sorely needed. Luckily, they, along with airships, are on their way. Flying mounts aren't going to happen. The world isn't designed for it, and honestly, they aren't needed.

Anima is a stop-gap measure that I think should be removed once we have chocobos and airship travel fully implemented.

The reason of other games doing it so this one should do it too is never a valid reason for anything. Not every game needs to be a quest grinder. Grinding quests is just a disguised version of traditional grinding that everyone claims to hate, yet for some reason it's fine if it's disguised in the form of a quest. The same is true for grinding leves.

This is the single biggest problem FFXIV has right now. It is in dire, dire need of additional, fresh content. The leve system has the potential to be really, really good if they work on variety and additional leve types. As it stands they're simply repetitive and stale, especially solo.

Aren't most of these issues being addressed? The devs are well aware of the lack of content, mounts, etc. ^^

Alright so...

That would be the problem. The game has 2 ways of play right now. The right way, that no one wants to do because leve parties are boring and stupid. And! The wrong way, which is everything else.

So, how about instead of making fun of people that are decently interested in the game you take the time to acknowledge that unless you play the system getting to 50 is a world of pain and unbearable hurt that will never get more then 50k people to play even as FtP.

Anyways, not trying to be rude. We get that some people min/max their way to 50 in 5 days while others struggle. I doubt he wants it easy. He just wants his time to be as productive as yours or mine.

It's really not. I went from R37-R39 in ONE night doing guild leves at 2 camps with a party. Get a party of 8 (max party bonus), leve link(bonus) and use guardian's aspect(bonus) and then honestly try and tell me that SP gains suck. It's really not all that bad once you figure out how to properly level. Sure you can solo grind but of course that's going to be MUCH slower.

I totally don't mean to even rub off as a prick myself. But it's just truth. It's a lot of bullcrap that if you just search around for more than 2 minutes, you can find plenty of people talking about the same things. They had to further expand the forums to allow for more threads, and yet people are still posting and re-posting the same bs threads over and over just because they're too lazy to do a little research.

Just to respond to the original thread concerns, I like to think SE is in favor of making there games somewhat less revealing of where you are supposed to be heading for SP.
If you look/ read the world is divided into SP camps, and besides grinding, levequests, and behests are both optional features for exp as well, and both these features are divided amongst SP camps.
I will admit to the lack of content however, but I think SE for the most part is doing better than usual for there MMORPG to even remotely direct you in the right direction. Play FFXI and you will feel the amount of misdirection/ no idea where to goness is pretty intense.
I personally enjoy systems built around adventuring to the unknown. =]

why is exp always an issue in every game until it gets reduced to the point where max lvl is attained in a week? Is this really what everyone wants in an mmo? You cant complain that theres no content in low/mid game and want a super fast grind at the same time, because nobody is even going to bother with it if everyones 50.

Honestly its 10x faster sp than it was at release and it wasnt a super long grind back then either, if anything we get too much sp currently, especially at lower lvls when you can get 3+ ranks on a single behest.

I'd also say lack of story. It concerns the main missions that are a storytelling mess and the side-quests don't support it in any way nor do they have any cutscenes.

Too long to level: I completly disagree, you can hit cap from rank 1 in about 2 months... if anything it is way to easy to level. It is a mmo it should not be a fast experience, it should be a long journey. Short games belong offline. Pre-abysea the sp gain is actually about the same in the amount of time it takes to hit cap in FFXI, and yea FFXI is level 75, but remember at release of FFXI it took alot more sp to level up as well they mega nerfed the required xp tnl.

UI: still needs more tweaking I agree, battle personal opinion really but they are changing it already so can't complain anymore it will do not good at this point they already decided to redo the whole thing.

Need of Mounts: chocobo's should of been added already agreed, as for flying mmos maby depending on how they do it.

Lack of Quest: Agreed they need alot more, disagree on them needing to be a source of SP/XP outside of quest mobs you kill.

Lack Of Content: Big Agree this is 80% of FFXIV's problem atm.

I agree on most parts besides putting to much focus on Solo leveling (quest based leveling) and easy mode (endgame in a week). FFXIV needs to improve in every other area, but the last thing I want to see is World of Final Fantasy or this already easy as crap game get easier.

all these issues were already noted and being addressed. Though delayed. CS take tme to render and not every quests needs them. In truth most ppl in ffxi hated them. as they took long to do. And most ppl i know in ffxi didn't care much about the stories only the rewards. CS are time consuming and ffxi is suppose to be less time consumimg.

the plan

2 mnths worth of updates to the battle system each update will also have more and more quests added to them. These quests do have story or hints to basic lore of the game. Lore is also back drop not just the current story. Not to mention instanced dungeons along with the first set of battle adjustments. And companies are getting launched.

due to the disaster in japan these did get delayed a bit. Maybe by mid april we will see these things.

I posted this in hopes that someone from SE will read my concerns and do something about it. I posted a lot of similar suggestions on the alpha/beta forums but they really seemed to have gone ignored which resulted FFXIV being released in the unfinished state it is today. I don't like posting on someone else topic when presenting my own ideas.

I have several level 90 jobs on FFXI. I don't have problems grinding exp like in FFXI for example it feels like I am making progress. Back in the day when they came out with ToAU my friend and I did a set party my monk and his whm needless to say we were level 75 in 5 days. I even did tons of dynamis grinding for 2 years to get a relic weapon, Excalibur.

My biggest concern is the lack of exp or any type of advancement in FFXIV. A guild leve which takes almost the full 30 min only to get around 3k exp with huge TNLs past 20 makes it feel like you are not getting anywhere or much accomplished at all. And the wipes and waiting for weakness to wear, this may be due to class imbalance but doing rank 30 guild levels gives at 28 results in getting to very low HP every mob you fight thus having to wait for hp to regen or use cure spells which don't heal much due to not having stats for it since I am speced for melee. The grind in FFXIV is far worse then anything FFXI had to offer, I didn't have a problem with it at all and killing mobs and exp camps were actually fun. I never run out of the exp buff you get from the crystal when playing FFXIV even with that it seems slow still.

Yes that must be why it is unfinished.

BTW, the things you have listed were discussed many times, those are the most obvious points an, there are probably also a zillion Blogs on this topic.

Then maybe if a lot of people post similar points then SE will fix some of this stuff.
