It's a shame the Calamity of Water/Shard aspected to is already gone, because...

...could you imagine if we could visit that Shard now like we can the First and Thirteenth? Imagine that Shard before the Calamity?

It would be interesting to get glimpses of the worlds that were rejoined somehow.

Perhaps the memories of all that has ever lived on Etheriys or its rejoined shards still persist somewhere within the Lifestream...

For my part, I've always loved Burmecia's aethstetic and music. Seeing Freya's people and the kingdom during that world's Final Days would be intense, I think.

On the First, we know that Light spread until it was inundating everywhere, and then the Flood of Light came and was stopped by Minfilia. But before the Flood of Light, there was that imbalance.

I'd think a Shard tipping towards Water would see rising seas and, where Norvand had Endless Day (and the Void Endless Night), would have Endless Rain.

Not to mention, can you imagine Soken's remixes of Burmecia's theme? Something like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_TRgeJNqGk , maybe, taken to crazy levels. The base theme itself is hauntingly beautiful, I can only imagine what FFXIV's writers and musicians could do with it...

Honestly, I feel like that shard would be very Spira inspired (the 10th shard, fallen to water)

Very likely.

Also, thinking on it, Burmecia wouldn't necessarily have to be on the Shard of Water. Remember, the First has the Lightning Plains (we fought there during Eden 5), so Burmecia possibly being on the Source wouldn't be out of the question.

Fair points, though I could see both. Technically, any of these places could be anywhere. I was just thinking "Eternal Rain" as a weather condition for zones would make the most sense on a water world, though it could be on the Source and have that as well. I'm just not sure where Bermecia would be on the source other than maybe Merycidia.

Eden 5 being on the First with the Lightning Planes would imply Spira was on the First, right? Weren't the Lightning Planes a FFX not FF9 zone?

Burmecia I could definitely see being on Meracydia as the primary water source for the continent, since they could have it at the top of a mountain, with the rains constantly flowing down it to the rest of the region. Could even make it the capital of Meracydia itself if they wanted to, if not a major city.

If I had to guess, the South Sea isles would probably be a good place for Spira references, given their position enroute to Meracydia. You'd probably end up with a mix of Lalafell pirates, blitzball, and discussions on the nature of summoning.

We do have a bit of insight into Meracydia, in that the Allagans ripped out buildings from the earth and transported them to Alys La for analysis and experimentation. The Heavensward Sightseeing log (entry 62) for example talks about a Cathedral to Sephirot that served as a place of worship by a race of tree-like beings before it was transferred over, and you can go visit it in person.

Given that the current expansion drew similarities and differences between Creation magic and Summoning, I'd like to see that expanded out further in terms of reason and faith, science and spiritualism. Both FFIX and FFX have a lot of material to contribute with regards to developing the cultural value around Summoning practices. I'm sure that there's something that gives the art value in its own right.

I think a reference to Burmecia could be introduced pretty much anywhere, although the real question around it is whether we're going to see more discussion about an aetheric Mist (and whether Viera are sensitive to it). Perhaps the backdrop of the Sephirot fight was showing images of a mist releasing Iifa tree on another continent? Who knows.
