Sounds like a server crash to me.
It's seriously messed up that I have to restart the whole game after each attempt because a lobby error trying to world visit closes the entire thing back to the desktop. This was a constant problem during launch.
Ahh so something did happen. Was wondering why there was a 2k Queue on a Monday night. Nothing new got released as far as I know.
Please insult me too.
I was in Island sanctuary when there was a massive server kick at 4 pm Pacific. A few friends on Balmung reported the same issue. at first i only had a 900 player queue. But when it got down to one player in queue, the server encountered a lobby error. lol. I logged out and flopped over to Masamune in a Japanese data center. No error there. Came back to a 2741 player queue. Got in the second time, after quite a long while, and was fine for 2 hours. Then lobby error. Now I’m sitting on a queue of 1700. I don’t think it’s because of the number of people. All servers hold the same number of people, a relatively low < 8000. And since say...Famfrit on Primal has more active characters than Balmung, if it were a population issue, then it should be Famfrit, no?
Take care everyone, and remember to drink water and eat a good snack.
Sorry to hear that. Its not a perfect solution to this problem, but maybe have an alt you can play that's on a different server so you can still play. Even though it won't be your usual server, its better than being stuck in queue all night. :<
it has nothing to do with balmung being "popular" and everything to do with the servers crashing. in fact, Jenova has nearly the same amount of active players as balmung. around 500 difference. the most popular server is gilgamesh. i get it that people hate balmung, but please at least look at server statistics before saying stuff like this.
source: https://ffxivcensus.com scroll down to ACTIVE population. inactive has nothing to do with this. (and even then Jenova has more characters over all on it than balmung lol)
That would be Mateus, as of the most recent census. Although Balmung's population gets very close.
It's also extremely likely that queues like this would happen on most of the NA servers, after a server crash. Aside from Mateus and Balmung sitting at an active character count of 30.9k and 30.5k respectively, every server on the Crystal datacenter is sitting in the range of 26k characters. Coeurl being the lowest at 25k. Aether datacenter servers are sitting at around 24-24.5k characters, while Primal datacenter servers are sitting at around 24-25k characters (with Behemoth being a bit of an outlier at 22.8k).
There isn't really anywhere for OP to move to, to avoid a situation like this. At least not until the new NA servers get added.
That site is worthless. Its made up statistics, it pulls from nothing accurate. I don't know why people keep linking it. Its KNOWN to be false. It once had the EU servers at like, negative pop or something lol.
Balmung is an RP server. Its not going to have the most active characters at ENDGAME, which is all that filters on.
Balmung is pretty much the only server that has ever been hardlocked for YEARS at a time.
Aether was for a bit after the crystal split, but Balmung was locked for close to 2 full years to new characters.
When that happened, me and a bunch of people in Eureka didn't get the boot.
but one of our number in the instance did come back to report what had just happened.
so whilst it did affect countless people.
it oddly didn't affect our Anemos Instance in Crystal.
You are using old information with no source to attack someone who resides in Balmung. Even if you were correct, (which you aren't, as if your server crashed, you too would be experiencing queues) it is no reason to do the typical "well just transfer." when people started on this server, been on it for 8-9 years (in my case) and / or has a house, friends, an FC they don't want to leave, and among any other reason they would want to stay. Once upon a time, Balmung was the most popular. That is old news. It is around the same as any now, with Gilgamesh being the top server. Even if you discredit my source because it had an error in it's past, and even if it's because you believe active doesn't count for anything, it is still something, which you do not have.
and to clarify: no, i do not care if my server was down for a few hours, i'd just go play another game, but i can still understand the frustration of some, and especially those who are extremely busy and rarely find time to play. adding to their frustration when they are venting is not on my to-do list, but it is for you, i guess.
edit: even if not using this site, just googling different sources which pulls from lodestone data... you can see Balmung isn't the most popular, or even among the top 5. i am not going to link them all for you, you can google and do the research yourself, but i have a feeling you don't want to be wrong.
Any usermade site for data pulling from the lodestone will not be accurate because the lodestone defaults to hide a lot of information.
I was on Besaid in 1.0 It got merged with Fabul into Balmung. I was there until Stormblood. I know what Balmung was like at the height of its popularity.
I'm not saying people are forced to transfer off, and yes, I'm well aware that if Jenova crashed there'd be queues. But Balmung is still the most popular RP server, and if you thing EVERY RP character is in the census's made by fans, you are dead wrong, because from what I remember, most RP characters barely get leveled at all.
it may not be 100 percent accurate, simply because the server population changes daily, but it gives an idea of where they are at. it is better thank “because i said so” or “because yoshi p said this a year ago”. again, balmung is not the most popular anymore. it is around the same as the rest. outside of people world visiting that is. i have been on balmung since 2.0 closed beta, as my “legacy” character i abandoned wasn’t apart of the merge. i was there during SB too, and stuck around until now. as someone who is currently here and experiencing a massive queue of 15-40 during peak hours, this is just a rare occurrence. it has nothing to do with balmung’s popularity.
sorry for any typos or weird formatting, on phone
Just to keep in mind, Balmung is the main RP server. Regardless of whatever population statistics, it is going to have more events and visiting players than average, so any major event (venue party/concert/whatever) is going to cause traffic congestion that other high-pop servers might not have. The constant flux in and out could also strain the server. Ultimately, the data isn’t public so who knows…but it should hardly be a surprise that the server as issues given traffic flow.
I wish I had known that prior to making my character here when I started playing last summer. It was the lull at the end of the expansion so by the time I noticed it would be an issue it was too late. I'll probably do a free transfer to one of the new NA servers when they finally go up.
Balmung hasn't been the absolute main RP server since it got locked in Stormblood. The RP scene on Mateus pretty much exploded at that point. Nowadays both servers have an almost equal population.
Again, any server could crash during the time that Balmung did (6-7pm EDT) and cause massive queues, simply because of the high amount of characters on each of the NA servers.
Pay for it yourself.
You're the one with the problem. Deal with the queues or suck it up and pay to move/wait till new NA servers to go for free. Whining on here about it won't solve anything because it's literally just a Balmung problem and no one is gonna have sympathy for you with how you're replying to people.
Edit (since I actually decided to skim): good, you solved your own problem. Why was this thread necessary in the first place?
The problem with these census sites is that they don't account for people who might be off-world. Some people practically live on other servers yet would be reported in the statistics for their home world. All of the people visiting Balmung for thebrothelsestablishments and RP are all contributing to the server load yet won't show up in the censuses.
