FFXIV dating sim

I seem to see people treat this game a online dating service. Kind of weird to use a video game to establish a relationship. Is this weird? Especially if the LDR ends up being half a world away?

I found my IRL spouse through the marriage partner hookup thread here on the forum. I've never gone into the actual game specifically looking for a partner though.
It might seem a bit weird, sure, but given that someone who is on the FFXIV forum obviously probably likes FFXIV a lot, I found it to be a good place to find someone, since I spend an inordinate amount of time on the game myself.

This kind of thing has gone on for years, going back to Everquest. I think more often than not, it's unintentional. Spending time with others on a common interest like this where you're free to be yourself opens up a lot of possibilities. Some of the longest friendships I have came from a place like this game.

Finding someone with similar interests...

Online dating, yes even through an MMO, is a thing. Has been for a long time. People also date people in other countries before moving to be together. Had an ex meet someone from Taiwan and moved out there to be with her.

Why is this weird?

It's not unheard of to find one's significant other through online sources. Long distance relationships are hard to make work, so they rarely last, but every so often the connection is strong enough and the effort is made by both sides. So yeah, not impossible, just unlikely, and as others have said it is usually happens on accident.

Is that weird? In a world where we more look at our phones than socialise? Where FB, Instagram, Tinder and a million dating sites exist? Why are you drawing the line at an online video game?

Yeah I think its very weird to want someone you share one of your major interests with.

I hope my wife and I have completly opposite interests, ill watch football on sofa with beer and she can watch fashion shows on second TV, call that happy life

Well internet dating has accounted for at least 50% of how people meet these days...if not more than that. So no I don't find it weird at all.

Well I'm hardly innocent and I don't really get it either. I wouldn't be looking for dates in those places either. Then again I hate dating so I wouldn't look for dates anywhere so perhaps I'm just a bad example.

living in a more interconnected world wherein people find themselves bonding with other people via a shared interest isn't that weird tbqh

works for some, doesn't for others like anything else.

end of the day, if it's something that bothers you or you feel judgment over, my advice is to work on yourself.

I do well enough in the looks department. Instagram model? Nah. But still well enough.

People happen to hang out and be social in MMO's, often making good friendships that can carry over to IRL, and for some lucky/unlucky (lol) people might find and build something deeper with.

Not really rocket surgery or a grand mystery.
