bicolour gemstone farming?

Is the best farm level 80 fates in Shadowbringers content, level 80 fates in endwalker content, level 90 fates in endwalker content, or level 70 fates in shadowbringers with a blu mage?

Looking at this guide, and knowing that not having to sync down is slightly faster, 86-90 fates become the sweet spot?

Endwalker FATEs give 14 stones instead of 12. Ultima Thule and Elpis benefit from not having a level sync or that weird issue where the mobs are inexplicably added back into the enmity list when the FATE ends, preventing you from mounting. Unfortunately, the zones don't have multiple instances anymore (except Thavnair ATM). Combine this with the HP scaling and you'll probably have to move between zones for efficiency. BLU isn't really viable either as long as its stuck at 70.

...Why does that list FATEs such as Formidable and Archaeotania in a list of best FATEs for farming gemstones? Those are fine if you're after their specific rewards. But hardly a good time/effort investment for gems. Especially since the lead-up FATEs for those special ones are often scaled a bit higher, with the expectation that the chain is often difficult to complete solo.

They're a good time investment for gemstones since so many other players show up for the same reason. Don't forget they reward 72, not 12. It's been quite a while since I've seen Formidable last more than 3 minutes (it's usually closer to 90 seconds) and Archaeotania rarely lasts more than 5.

Just remember to keep farming other FATEs in the zone while waiting for the big one to get pulled so the wait time doesn't go to waste. The level 80 power creep means that even the more difficult ones can be solo'd fairly easily - but why solo when other players are also farming gemstones? List a gemstone-farming party in PF. May take a few minutes before others see it to join but you'll usually get a few to make things that much faster.

They aren't good to "farm" per say but it's a good idea to go to those fates (Formidable, Archaeotania, "David" and Chi) when they pop because you get extra gems for them. They also don't last too long anymore, and David has three per server atm becuase of the instances. Usually Hunt LSes and Discord servers will announce when these fates are up.

To OP, I personally grind gems in Elpis because the fates are pretty easy, you don't need to level sync each time, and mostly easy to get around. There's almost always other people doing fates in Elpis (at least on my server).

Oh, I can explain that odd behavior.

If the mob that is spawned by the fate exists on that map, it has a space it "should" be. Like if you bait a NM out of it's zone, or drag a hunt mob from the spawn point. So if a fate summons mobs that exist in the zone, they will try to return there, and that keeps you in combat. They will also be invunrable due to thinking they were kited.

So yes, in order to finish a combat fate as cleanly as possible, either only fight NM/item fates, or hope that the monsters don't exist close enough for them to walkback.


And there are level 70 fates in lakeland for 12 stones that blu COULD farm, so I figured I'd toss it in.

Y'know, the few times I've been around for them, I hadn't noticed the bonus gems. But makes sense. Does change the balance a bit.
Still, not so sure about the lead-up FATEs, unless you've got a group running and/or know the finale window is open.

The major hunt tracking websites also track the FATEs and I'd say that the gemstone vouchers have lead to the trackers being more consistently updated for the FATEs than they were in Shadowbringers.

If you're struggling solo with some of the lead up FATEs, try changing which job you're using based on the type of FATE. Don't forget to bring your chocobo along for some extra damage/healing.

Have things noticeably changed as an answer to this question?
We've got a level 80 blu now, and soon a new expansion to farm them in.

Where do folks expect this to be best?

The patch notes just released confirm that we will continue to get bicolor gemstones in DT FATEs and that the gemstone cap has been increased to 1500.

FATES that grant bonus XP will also grant a gemstone bonus though the patch notes don't specify how much or if it will be limited to level cap players.

That is a tasty bonus, and the improved amounts will slowly make the mount more and more accessable over time.

I'm still not sure if fates as highest level class, or highest level blu is better, it's a hard to solve puzzle, is it not?
