We didn't level up by killing things. We leveled up by hitting them!

We spammed rapid, not standard!

We had no chocobos, just our two feet!

1000 exp per synth? More like 300~! And that's on a good day.

We didn't have mp regen, we had moves like Tranquility.

Mages actually had weaponskills.

I actually got to say "back in my day, we had to walk from city to city if we wanted to get the aetherytes, none of these new-fangled airships" the other day, it was awesome. (Although technically untrue, since you could take people to new aetherytes by teleporting them there, but...)

Ewes where amazing xp from 1-10, and a peiste like to sneak up on un-expecting gatherers and one shot them!

I had a physical and a class level

High level people would bring ants to camp horizon and kill all the level 20 kids.

We couldn't search the market wards, we had to go into each of them one by one! There were also less of them!

No airships, either!

NQ, +1, +2, and +3!

We stacked LNC to bring to Ifrit!

Some things -were- better in our day, though. Punishing Barbs, Sacrifice, a castable Slow...

tanks fought naked so healers could get more xp, and you would be ousted for using weapon skills!

Back in my day we had patch 1.19

Failing leves was better than winning.

There was competition to participate in 15-man Behests.

Gear was only an aesthetic choice. Hello chain mail mages.

No one could level blacksmith because no one had a high enough blacksmith to make the next blacksmith weapon. (Back when rank 20 item was used in a rank 12 tool.)

Cactures would one shot entire parties! People would bring gathers/crafters to kill high level mobs to spam wrist flick!

Back in my day we walked 15 miles in the snows of Xarcabard just to get to the Shadow Lord.

back in my day I had to wait for the stamina bar to charge up just to do a normal attack.

Back in my day, the only mob worth beating to death was crabs.

We used to have to craft our own event related gear. And the only thing that designated events was a lousy bell you could ring every few hours.

We only had space for 100 items in our inventory and ONE retainer with 100 spaces. DM for repair? Blasphemy! What the hell is a DM!?

Back in my day...

- Your party would kill a mob and your friend would get 600 skill points while you'd get 30. And on occasion, even though your combat log said you were earning skill points, your SP total wouldn't change at the end of battle.

- Your weapon would break after one hour of fighting and you'd have to head back to town (and remember that teleporting to town was 6 anima!). Once you got there, the NPC repair was 25,000+ gil to repair it back to only 50%, but good luck finding a player crafter to fix your stuff instead.

- There was no content other than leves and the main scenario quests.

- If you had any complaints whatsoever about the game at launch, you were a "WoW fanboy."

- We rang bells for every holiday. Every. Holiday.

[EDIT:] - You had to manually inspect each and every retainer in the market wards to look for anything you might want to buy. There was no search feature and wards were not even separated by item type.

Back in my day we talked about how one day there'd be a thread wherein we'd be talking about the things from "back in the day", but no one expected so many threads about it either!

Back in my day: - you still received exp while dead, getting around 200-300 exp per synth was considered great, Dodore was soloed a ton, 15-man eft parties were the craze, and many more I can't remember lol

Back in my day we sold items through our characters bazaar.

back in my day, whenever someone leveled up in the same world map you are in. you would hear the victory fanfare no matter how far away you are from the person and and would repeat if more than one person leveled at the same time. The alpha were grim times.
