That line kinda makes me think they want to signify a shift away from XIV to something more... and the I getting less significant, and it kinda does look like XV... maybe it's just a hint at... something.

Well, it's curious nonetheless. Obviously we get it, but why not just use XIV to avoid confusing those not following the game's transformation?

For the general public, | isn't the same as I. It looks like a style choice rather than a numeral.

Seriously, this doesn't need a dev response. The game is still FFXIV, that logo is just how they designed the text/logo. Use common sense.

I absolutely LOVE that insignia. GREAT JOB SE, very very nice. I <3 it because to me it infers movement away from what was 14 but its not 15... and it infers change. I think that idea was brilliant.

Why wouldnt the just call it 14?

Assuming people will know X|V is 14 and not 10|5 is giving the general population far too much credit.

To me they make it look like the X I and V are all touching and connected, maybe something to do with Dalamud hitting us? idk just a guess.

It's just something that I'd be interested in hearing the process that went behind choosing it and it's inferred meaning.

Wether it mean 14, 15 or 10|5 makes no difference to me and my enjoyment of the game.

They should just rename it Disidia Legend Final Fantasy X|V-2 Tactics Type 012/2

Right observation, but probably incorrect on the conclusion. I don't think its a style choice so much as a marketing choice. We all know XIV has a very very very bad stigma attached to it. If anyone sees XIV on the box it will conjure up images of fail. They don't want to rename it to XV for obvious reasons...the biggest one is you can't simply abandon a project after all that campaigning. So the compromise was simple: keep the name, but make it look like something else. To the general public, X|V is XV. We do not interpret an line as an I, because it just doesn't look anything like that in english. Technically it is an I, but it will be perceived as a border between X and V. In short, the game retains its name but will always be seen as XV on the cover. When ppl are shopping around, they will assume it is a brand new game..and not a 2.0 version of XIV. Brilliant if you ask me, bloody brilliant.

I wondered about the new logo design choice and initially thought that "Are they about to go balls deep and make this XIV and XV at the same time?"

I chalked it up as over-thinking it, admittedly... But I have to say, I am not entirely convinced that this isn't their intention, now.

It would be a pretty ingenious way to pull in brand new customers (it's got a new number, must have) while keeping the existing ones connected to the progression (it is still XIV to us).

After the surprisingly strong statement made by Yoshida, his dev team, and the PR team today (the screen-shots, concept art, media sneak-peek of 2.0 in action), I can't seem to put anything past them.

But again... It is probably over-thought.
