Come on... Is the 4th most spoken language in the world.
Some will say that the game doesn't have enough Spanish speakers to justify it, I don't think that's the case. But that's also the reason why they aren't here.
Please.

It's not the population that's the justification issue. It's the amount of work to get caught up and then keep things going. That's a lot of hours of expensive studio time.
Also it's economics that play a part - the reason there are German and French translations in the game is because they're the two main economies in Europe (larger than the UK even) so there is a far greater economic incentive to SE to support those languages in the game, and English is considered a de facto world language.
Unfortunately Spain's economy is not as large as their neighbour, and even many of the countries of South America where Spanish is spoken as an official language... are in economic turmoil, so the financial burden to SE is probably considered to be just too great I'm sorry to say.
I really doubt this is the case.
There are several MMORPG translated in Spanish (WOW, ESO, GUILD WARS 2) to name a few, I really, really doubt that the latest makes more money than square with their game.
ESO had no Spanish localization and they added it recently.
That sounds like just text localization. Over here, it would mean text and voice, which I assume is the only way they would add it on. Text translation probably exists already. ;)
Korea gets their own localization and version of the game and I believe there's another company that handles that.
The Elder Scrolls Online launched roughly around the same time as FFXIV did and has a lot more text in general when accounting for quest dialogue, item descriptions and the five thousand or so in-game books that can be found and read. That didn't stop it recently expanding localisation for Spanish speaking players.
Furthermore, every single bit of quest dialogue in TESO is voiced as well...
I get what everyone is saying about it taking way too long / too much money to record everything from the start. That's a good point. I think doing text translation to Spanish and just starting Spanish voice recordings for the story as of 7.X onwards would be a neat idea. I know text translation in itself is a behemoth of a task, but it would def be less time-consuming and more cost-effective than also doing all the voice recordings. Of course, it'll be up to SE to decide if it would ever be worth it. Spanish is usually a language option for most games, so it surprised me they've never added it.
I don't particularly care that much, since I usually play with english text and JP voices (or EN voices if its an american game) when given the chance.
But I can't deny that even a text-only translation in Spanish would do wonders to attract more of my friends.
If it happens, I hope is neutral spanish.
Good for them? ESO also lets you block a power swing from a two-handed greatsword by holding up a flimsy wooden bow and watching the greatsword just bounce off of it. Their crafting system also relied extremely heavily on trading with other players, whereas FFXIV lets you level crafting largely if not entirely on your own. The simple fact is that every game will have pros and cons compared to others. ESO can have whatever it wants. I played it back in the day and found it not to my taste. I like FFXIV a lot more.
All of which has nothing to do with Theodric's comments addressing a specific comment made regarding TESO. Perhaps follow the thread of discussion before simply firing off a post just for the sake of reactively defending XIV.
But good for you?
Dunno, it seems to fit quite well...
Does it? Oh, because I'm supposedly against the idea? I live in the real world, where it takes a little more than a notion to pop something into existence.
I support this.
I am Spanish but mostly play games in English so I wouldn't be personally affected. However, many more people would play the game if at least the text was in Spanish. The audio can remain in either English or Japanese if hiring voice actors was a problem at the beginning, although it should also be translated in the medium/long term, maybe by steps.
Also it's not only Spain that speaks Spanish, but basically all of Latin America. Even Brazil has Spanish as a 2nd language over English, at least from my understanding.
I think it would be a good idea to have Spanish as an option in the future, doesn't hurt to hope, right?
As an aside, I know there are Spanish speaking communities in the game but his is anyone supposed to find them??
