What it says on the tin. Aren't we kind of overdue for an update to the Grand Companies? There's still so much more the game could do with 'em, and the previous update we got was all the way back in Stormblood.
Thanks for considering! :D

We got some in 2018-2019 or something. Was that not enough?

It's just one of those abandoned features. Sad.

MFW seeing GC update on patch note

As a 1.0 vet, I always felt like there's so much more that they could and should've done with Grand Companies. There's so much potential there and they could literally tie in other parts of the game with the Grand Company system.
1) Back in 1.0 we used to have Faction Leves, where iirc, a group of us that had accepted the same leve, went out and would slay a big NM. Why not take the old Battle leve system and incorporate that into the Grand Company system, giving us something like Missives to do? And in doing so, the player(s) earn rewards and/or points to go toward purchasing things like crafting materials, minions, rare rewards, and so on.
2) Founder's Day Seasonal Event. This was an event we had back towards the end of 1.xx to celebrate the founding of the Grand Companies. I think at the most players got like a certain amount of Grand Company seals. This event disappeared after servers went down and we haven't seen anything of the sort again. Why not bring this back with boosts to earn more seals and of course grander rewards?
The trouble is, the Grand Companies are now rather obsolete both story wise and gameplay wise, as they played a far greater role in 1.0 and early ARR where they were a means of consoldiating the resources of the three cities in order to meet the Garlean threat head on, but fell into irrelevance as the player's character drifted away from "adventurer working for a citystate" to "member of Scions of the Seventh Dawn, Primal slayer and Hydaelyn's champion", which basically transcends any individual city.
And with EW basically amalgamating the three Grand Companies into one as "the Grand Company of Eorzea", it's even more irrelevant now sadly.
I'd personally see stuff like this as more of a writing challenge than anything else.
In fact, it would play almost perfectly into my previously posted idea of introducing flashy new Allied/Grand Company Seals to serve as rewards for completing lvl 90/100/etc tasks.
All you gotta do is roll with the punches.
IIRC, the last time this came up in an interview the answer was something along the lines of "since GCs don't really do much right no there's no point in updating them until we decide what to do with them."
As for Squadrons, they were probably always just a prototype for trusts. The odds of them getting any significant updates is minimal.
The story is going in a way that they can consolidate all Eorzea as one single big nation composed by the 6 city-states. I think if they are waiting for significant changes, maybe they will wait until Eorzea becomes a single thing to implement new contents and changes to actual system.
In this line, they could make some quests based on the restoration of Ala Mihgo or means to consolidate an Alliance with Garlemald or restoration of Garlemald, etc.
The faction system was created to be something to rival the empire and the tribes, but after EW, this made them a bit nonsential in both objectives. So, they need to change targets with a new menace or a means to keep pvp and squadrons alive. In order to do that, I think they will wait for major changes in the game story first. But I really think the actual format (with 3 cities only and squadron doing some dungeons) will end up at some point or have another big enemy to deal with to justify new ranks and content.
Some GC lvl 90 gear could be a nice alternative to the tomestone farming. It probably will still be barely used, but even glam wise it has potential. And it can also prevent the limit on the tomestones from being too disruptive. And they could simply have made some missions with the trust system as requirement here.
It doesnt always need something big. Some smaller steps in between can still be nice to keep some slower pacing, while still giving a sense of progression. And its not like doing trust missions is a realy fast way to progress either.
even a new coat would be nice. the last gear drop (excluding weapons) was in HW I think
I said it before and i'll say it again...

NO YOSHIDA, I DO NOT WANT TO RUN A DUNGEON WITH THE SCIONS SO THEY CAN LEVEL UP AND I CAN RUN A DUNGEON WITH YISH'TOE-LA WITH NEW HAT. I LIKED MY SQUAD, I GLAMOURED MY SQUAD, I GOT TO CAPTAIN SO I CAN RNG 20k SEALS FOR A FREAKIN' BOM BOKO.
Oh well, it's not like this is the first time it has happened.
*Looks at the trashed LoV table in the middle of the Golden Saucer parking lot*
Someone should really just throw that away. :/
You know what it would be cool? With a GC update, Virtu Grand Company sets that are both higher resolution and dyable.
