Maybe it's me. Maybe i'm being dumb and the change is a good thing, but isn't Machinist already dead last in terms of DPS amidst all other dps classes? Why does it feel like they got an unneeded nerf to their DPS?

Ah yes, they butcher MCH again and again and let it rot somewhere. MCH is the selfish damagedealer who can't deal damage because of an really old reasoning that they could attack when melees and casters had to just run but over the years that reason is basically gone with all the actions melees and casters got to well deal damage while moving.
Now MCH hits like a wet pool noodle compared to others...
Nope, they really just don't like us.
Smells like a MCH rework is coming, or the job is simply joining the DRK & SCH club
I have to admit, I about fell over when I saw the patch notes! All the buffs on other classes... except for Machinist!! Thankfully I had switched to DNC from Machinist when I came back to FFXIV due to them already badly nerfing MCH previously... but now... just WOW. What is going on with their clear hate of MCH?!?
What are you talking about? I, for one, enjoy sitting on a full bar or hope it fills up during an optimum burst window! Speaking of which, what other class punishes you for blowing your resources as soon as they are available? At most I can only think of rdm but they can be a pinch healer/rezzer. What does mch have? Tactician? lmao
i would argue Summoner is in a similar situation. Bahamut, Phoenix, and Ifrit are the bulk of SMN's burst, and if you pop them outside of a burst window in a raid, you can find yourself doing less damage overall. That being said, it is far less severe than it was prior to 6.0
And there are pretty simple QoL ways they can make the job straight up better.
Wildfire being a guaranteed DH-Crit. For the buildup and long CD for this not to have already happened is baffling.
Auto Crossbow not lowering the CD of Ricochet is baffling as well.
Flamethrower is still a clunky skill. It could be an alternate way to lose heat if Wildfire is on CD. Massive heat blast.
The 5s windup on The Queen has never been adequately explained. I assume it's just because latency / spaghetti code because they won't tell us otherwise.
they need to adjust how the Rook and Queen function. for starters they need to make it so their duration does not start ticking down until their first attack. Both the Rook and the Queen eat up a significant portion of their time with their summon animation, and as it stands only benefit from approximately half of it. That's enough time for maybe 3 hits, which is a absurd
all 3 skills are indeed baffling.
of them, i think flamethrower needs a straight up rework. it's a glorified DoT but you have to channel it, which means movements to adjust for mechanics end it and puts it on cooldown. not to mention that our normal aoe rotation is just stronger overall
MCH has always been the black sheep when it came to jobs. In HW and SB it did good damage, but was easily the worst job in the game to play. In ShB and EW it feels a lot better to play, but does crap damage despite being a selfish DPS. I dont think MCH players ever had a win.
I just feel this is DPS platers waking up to the fact that the “everything should be accessible to the lowest common denominator” design philosophy of the jobs really ends up benefitting nobody
The DPS have been mostly shielded from it up till now because most of the DPS have retained a level of complexity but now that they have gutted healers down to “what a DPS who’s never played a healer thinks a healer should play like” and tanks are still somehow getting more methods to completely ignore the concept of agro even up to patch 6.2 they are coming for the only role left now.
I know this probably comes off as a “you had it bad so everyone else should have it bad” but between the 87 Kaiten threads, the fear of changes to DRG and the never ending problems with MCH it’s hard to not look at DPS mains and be like “weve dealt with this, square doesn’t care and half of you supported the changes to our jobs; I don’t want to see your job simplified but I’m shocked you didn’t see this coming”
I think I need update my signature now. Is there a way I can do a double strikethrough?
They probably don't know what to do with it. Which is strange, since any of us fans can come up with better ideas of what direction this job can go in than the devs currently can.
Like, for example, how hard is it to just make it so Queen Automata and Rook Turret have the ability to attack groups of enemies based on whether we are doing the same thing or not. That's just one of my major gipes about Machinist though. Haven't payed attention to what they did to it now.
Doubt machinst will get another big overhaul. It's had 2 already.
It's the damage focused of the ranged phys so it should hit harder than the other 2. Look at BLM and SAM.
Give hypercharge 5 stacks, let autocrossbow reset riccocet & gauss round like heat blast(or at least them reset their complimentary oGCD), wildfire should be ether guarenteed Dire-Crit or have an aoe explosion when it pops, make flamethrower a proper DoT, and lastly just get rid of the queen. Replace the battery gauge's use to empower the tools.
It's very clear they don't like MCH- just look at the animations
Why does someone need to do acrobatics while firing a gun?
MCH is great right now. I mostly play SMN and MCH when I DPS at the moment and I enjoy them a lot.
Maybe their DPS is low? I don't keep track of the whole DPS competition among jobs, but I'm frequently yellow in the enmity table regardless. The regular high-potency burst had me deleting fate enemies yesterday.
It didn't used to do acrobatics most of the time in Stormblood, and it was a very boring job to play. Bard meanwhile was extremely fun doing acrobatics to shoot arrows from different angles. So they changed Machinist to not have an RNG rotation and to always use acrobatics for the attacks. It's just a lot more fun that way.
i think Queen is fine. I mean yeah, it seems like it's a good thing to adjust Queen so it neatly its into the raid burst window, but it doesn't really solve the issue the job has which is its ridiculously poor performance in raids as a whole. simply giving it more damage hasn't fixed the problem, so maybe some minor reworks of a couple skills like flamethrower, wildfire, etc. would help
Ignoring the numbers as I frankly don’t care and unless your parsing you will never notice it personally, the job itself plays spastically. And unlike every other job in the game you don’t work for anything. I guess the turret , that you have no control over, I guess wildfire which doesn’t do anything tangible either, I guess drill? Every 20s
This is not a doubt I would bet on. There have been several instances in this game’s history of jobs being overhauled repeatedly e.g. SMN, AST, DRK, MNK, and NIN have all had repeated overhauls, as has mch. In fact since it’s inception Endwalker marks the first Expansion it has not had a major overhaul.
I would not in the least bit be surprised to see major changes to MCH come 7.0.. sadly until then I’ll stick to other jobs.
