So proud to be a part of the thousand man walk of shame later :D
Pretty sad. Really with a new DC it's about the only option for awhile cause i double we're getting more wards anytime soon.
Average time-to-win of over 18 years at that number of entrants. Nice.
1049 and counting ... I so wanna live in Shiro but this is maybe the last time I participate in this height of silliness, can't even snag an apartment .. perhaps we can all have a giant beach party later to celebrate the ridiculousnessnessness though hah hah :D
The bids on that house alone would be more than enough to instantly fill up every personal house in a new district at the current 3/8 FC to 5/8 personal split. XD
Maybe people should move server?
There's nowhere to go in NA. Personal houses are all taken, and what little comes up in each lottery round ends up with a lot of bidders. Balmung is an extreme case, but in every server in NA houses are getting a hundred or more bidders per lottery round. 1% or below chance of winning is typical. Of course there are exceptions if you have a couple Goblet plots while several other wards' houses are available. Then you may get lucky and only have to bid against 50 other people for the less desirable plots. Now your chance of winning is 2% . So yeah, transferring servers within the NA region to improve your chances of getting a personal house isn't really a reasonable plan. For leaving your friends and FC behind, your reward is an upgrade from near impossible to extremely unlikely.
Personally, I just leveled some alts in the Oceanic servers as well as one of the new Europe servers. I can't visit them on my main character, but at least they're in fantastic locations. For NA, however, the only decent chance of getting a house may be to start a shell FC in one of the less crowded servers and hope that FC houses will still be available in a month.
There be people on this forum that are like "yeah there isn't enough demand for more wards"
I'm on the current "dead" server of Crystal, the same data center as Balmung.
Our houses are hitting 200-400 bids per lottery as well and theres no where to go from here.
Sure I'll jump ship to whenever the expand the datacenter, but even that is just a band-aid.
No doubt in my mind there is a clear demand, I think the large number of bids on these properties is proof. Balmung went higher than 1002 in the end and from the screencap I saw of the winner, I believe they are someone genuine who will enjoy their new home.
So, YES! there is a demand for 4 to 5 more personal wards right now to satisfy that demand of about 1000 people (1000 / 60 / 5) maybe as a short term bandaid that would help for a few weeks?
But wards are not great in the long term. Better is that SE hire a systems developer (as they hinted to in the last live letter) to take responsibility of housing, listen to the community, and then take ownership and make it better.
That takes on a lot more than just removing the pent up demand, it also needs a redevelop in many other areas, like availability, Z-Axis, scale, replacable inside walls, possibly ways to link your house to friends in virtual wards, entry through NPCs or doors, rather than teleporting into your yard - and so much more.
Housing can become so much better in the #1 MMO.
Oh I agree, the system desperately needs a permanent solution and not another bandaid.
Near the end.

Taking the Discord translation - as they are far more skilled at Japanese than me
One assumes and hopes this also includes housing.Quote:
Miuna : Y "Live System designer would be for content like Island sanctuary, crafting gathering etc"
It would.
One of the things I loved about EQ2 before it got ruined by Daybreak was how great a developer Emily (Domino) was at crafting and housing. A skilled person who is across all these systems balancing crafting, gathering, improving I.S. and hopefully, incorporating the housing systems too.
We need it!
Indeed. What the developers forgot to take into account, especially as they keep releasing incredible outdoor furnishing, is that a maturing player base not only has more resources to spend, necessitating the need for more medium and large plots, but they need the additional space and slots to fully utilize the furnishings supplied.
Player housing is in many ways the ingrown toenail of FFXIV. It’s not fatal, but it sure is annoying.
Forum (FWIW) mostly seems to be for a house not more wards - and that's where I sit firmly in the "make it available for all camp". I don't have the metrics the devs have or much of an insight into the greater community so won't presume there.
I was mainly just highlighting the number that would be needed for just today based on the depth of that placard count. And honestly, it likely still wouldn't be enough for the NA/EU worlds as I believe there is a cohort of people who want to try to avoid the disappointment of losing each cycle. If they exist like I think, they are the ones who gave up after round one.
Plus of course, Blamung/Mateus alts would likely all love a decent house with that apartment situation.
Sorry my words were not clearer.
By adding wards, are we talking about adding a new residential district or just adding more wards to the existing districts? If it's the former then yeah, that is quite different from the demand for a house. If it's the latter, well, it is basically the same thing as demand for a house with the way the housing system is implemented. Personally, I would love to see the option for instanced houses without a hard limit, but it doesn't look like that's happening any time in the near future if ever.
I also don't really see them doing much to alleviate the housing supply issue on current servers until the recently released and planned servers in EU and NA are filled up. Right now, I would advise any EU player who wants a house to immediately transfer to one of the new servers. You are guaranteed a house without having to leave your datacenter. You're just a city aetheryte away from the world you left. This chance will not appear again for a long time. The other new worlds in the pipeline will be on new datacenters. Access to the communities and economies of established servers will be possible thanks to datacenter visit, but it's nowhere near as seamless as those new worlds that were added to the existing EU datacenters.
Of course, maybe if the Japanese player base becomes vocal about a need for more housing, something may be done. My understanding is that they have more servers for a lower population. I don't know the state of housing there, but if it is also undersupplied with their lower population density then hopefully the housing supply will be addressed before waiting for NA/EU population redistribution into servers that don't exist yet.
tldr: Players are screwed while they remain in established servers.
lol. That's where I live on Famfam! Come visit sometime!
I'm definitely in the camp of "gave up after round one", only because I wouldn't be satisfied with a small house. I have enough gil to purchase 3 Large houses, and I personally wouldn't be satisfied with a medium, though I'd take one, but I really want a large.
STG if someone says just move to OCE/move to the new NA servers yeah okay and leave all my friends behind, leave behind my static etc. no thanks.
To be fair, with data center travel visit, you wouldn't be leaving behind your friends or static if you moved to one of the new NA servers when they come out later this year, since you can just travel back to primal whenever you want to hang out with them. Assuming you are on Famfrit and this isn't a forum alt or something.
I have a large on Gilga and all my friends are on Crystal, so I just bounce between DCs all the time depending on what I'm doing.
If you're adamant about staying on Famfrit though even when the new NA worlds come out, you'll just have to pray someone with a large on Famfrit leaves then. People willing to transfer to the new NA datacenter when it arrives will have infinitely more advantage at getting their desired house (or any house, for that matter) when they release then anyone wanting to stay put.
Yes it will help, that SE still ignores people being able to get houses on other servers than their own likewise an additional FC does not... housing 'enthusiasts' do that all the time and they did that for good with last amount of houses we got as well.
Sickness must be purged then you can disagree to whatever.
A statement, Balmung is over populated for no given reason other than omg this is the so called RP server, that problem has been fixed long time ago with World Visits.
