New servers and data centers are not the solution to the housing crisis.

...Instanced housing is.

Let's please stop bringing up the addition of servers as an answer to this problem.

• No one should be expected to leave their server and friends behind for a better chance at enjoying an aspect of the game.
• No one should have to consider leaving their FC so that they create a shell FC for a chance at a house.

These are both things that people are being told to consider because of this housing scarcity and I find it completely appalling, in a game that is meant to be a shared experience, an opportunity to build communities and play with others.

If those of us who love housing wanted to play solo, we'd be playing far superior games for that.

• Everyone who wants to interact with housing, should have the option to do so.
• Everyone who wants to dedicate their time and effort into upgrading their house, they should be able to do so.

It shouldn't be down to luck. It should be something that's achieved in direct proportion to the amount of effort and time you put into it.

Give us instanced housing. It's the only solution to this.

Another solution is to be rid of personal housing entirely. People should stop coveting these places and just allow FCs to house their people.

Hypothetical Question: If Square Enix announced tomorrow that they will be completely revamping the housing system in 8.0, are you willing to commit to playing the game through that release date?

Personally, I think 3 1/2 years would be optimistic, not from a coding perspective, but from a server investment and installation perspective.

Considering that instanced housing would take less resources than the bloated ward system, what investment are you talking about? Also since island sanctuaries are going to be a thing, the resource argument is moot anyway.

I am thinking of trying to get a house on the new NA servers and utilizing the new data center travel tool to continue to play with my friends! (And they can come visit!) It's win-win!

Making housing limited to FCs doesn't get rid of personal housing. It just creates more hoops to jump through to obtain it.

Keep in mind that local economies on the new worlds will be dead for some time since players will be able to use data center travel to buy what they want while few players will have incentive to travel to the new worlds to make purchases to bring more gil in. Materia managed because they had no choice other than to be self-reliant - they could not spend outside of Materia.

Those who struggle to make gil or rely heavily on the marketboard to do it may want to think twice about moving to the new NA worlds.

This implies that new data centres and servers are designed to give more people housing, they are there to ensure the constant expansion and growth of the game so that the exisiting servers don’t become overly crowded

Instanced housing without an outdoors then? Or do you want what you have now, with nothing more than a blank space surrounding your house?

You are contemplating making the current system into an 'instance'. Despite what you may think, the interior of each and every house right now is an 'instance'.

I'm talking about completely revamping the system to accommodate 5-15 million players (and their alts) who want to come back to the game in 5 years and still have their house.

Instanced housing with outdoor areas would still take fewer resources than a ward. The ward is always loaded. A housing instance isn't loaded until a player wants to enter.

The entire system doesn't necessarily have to be revamped. The instanced side of housing could be improved without removing wards for those who prefer the wards.

I also thought SE's original scheme of wards for FC housing and apartments for personal housing (as in the oft-repeated Yoshi-p quote about personal housing being "much more affordable") was fine, but I doubt they could go back at this point.

The limited supply really does seem to be creating a frenzy of demand.

I could imagine them adding moggardens to apartments but it won't satisfy forum demands for "instanced housing."
