Definitely wasn't expecting this. Nevertheless, it would be lovely if this game had better funding and more attention devoted to it than NFT projects.

I feel bad for FFVII, there's no limits Square Enix has for pimping it out.
"Digital Plus Edition" for a physical action figure. Yep.
It's not even milking FFVII anymore. They're beating the blood out of it.
I'm kind of glad that FFXII is one of my favorite FF games, and that it's not that popular. SE won't bother milking it.
And so the fall begins.
This has me worried. FF7 fans are probably the most loyal fanbase out off all the Final Fantasy games fanbases out there and sadly probably is the right community to test NFT's out on. Hopefully reason overcomes FOMO cause this will be the message that is sent to Square Enix.
Y'shtola is next. This time the creepy doll is a jpeg.
What's frustrating is that they really don't need to embrace NFT's in order to make money - they've still got a lot of beloved older games that they could remaster and release to massive success.
If you can't resell them in a open market and inflate prices then what's the point?
(rhetorical question, we all know the point)
The actual Cloud figurine price is just under $130. For an additional $30 you can get something backed by blockchain technologies (Enjin, in this case), with no means of trading said NFT at this time. The figurine isn't out until later 2023, by which time Enjin may not even be in business.
This is also not the first NFT sold by Square Enix, but then you wouldn't know that because you neither read the quarterly financial statements for FY2022 or FY2023, nor are fluent enough in Japanes to where you could have purchased said NFTs in one of the non-English games published by SE.
[See financial statements for further details: https://www.hd.square-enix.com/eng/i...planatory.html -- may I suggest the May 2022 report for FY2023/Q1 and the end-of FY2022 report from 31 March 2022?]
That doesn't change the fact that SE has a lot of more important projects that need funding and has strained relationships with enough of its players to even consider testing them further with NFTs and all they entail.
Matsuda is the most incompetent SE CEO ever. This man just burns through all the good will Yoshi-P and his team work so hard to build up for SE just for this schmuck to come along and blow it all (and their money) on some nonsensical anti customer project that any person with two eyes and a partially functioning brain knows is a scam and will instantly fail.
People can say what they want about Sakaguchi back when he ran Square Soft, but Mastuda is a 1000× worse running SE. If it weren't for Yoshi-P turning FFXIV around, SE might have been forced to fold a long time ago.
Beating an already repeatedly beaten dead horse in the most shameful way.
Yoship already revealed that the mainline series was in danger due to the issues with the releases from the 2010s period, given the trajectory of the company it is no wonder that many are increasingly concerned for not just FFXIV but the franchise as a whole.
You know that's like one of those weird mix you see sometime and you didn't imagine it could be a thing before you saw it for the first time (like melted chocolate over cheese.)
Here i'm feeling both disgust and hilarity at the same time, that's kind of weird.
30 bucks for a 3D model that you'll be able to watch on you pc or phone ... 30 bucks like half of a full priced game on release for a fucking 3D model that you won't be able to do shit with. This is pure genius.
EDIT : misunderstood the price tag !
enjoy it on my pc and smart phone thats so neat... it will be great as soon as we can upload our soul into the internet... until then i'll laugh about it
Backed up by a custom blockchain (Efinity) that creates 5,062 tonnes of CO2 per DAY.
SE is about a year and a half too late on this train.
So a physical item with a limited time digital only thing attached to it. Sounds just like the statues or CDs that come with a limited time code for something in-game.
Hate NFTs but it's not surprising they'd use a proven sale method to test the waters. Oh well there's a sucker for every market.
Idk. I guess this doesn't bother me all that much. I say let it fail like Ubisofts. I've yet to see the games take a hit in quality (with 7R being a top FF imo) so I'm not to worried. Now if the later DOES happen that'll be a different story
It takes like 3 seconds to make an NFT, it's not at all reflective of their (lack of) funding or effort in other areas. It's just cheap, low-effort techbro pandering, nothing more. If anything, it's just reflective of how horrid their business sense is, but that's been the case for the past 20 years.
I'd say "there's no need to doompost about it" but it's still actively fucking up the environment, so uh, yeah. Still plenty of doomposting material.
My own disgust with NFT's aside, this seems like really crappy timing on their part since NFT interest has been cratering across the board.
Time for Sony to buy SE.
Right as Minecraft banned all NFT/Blockchain activities in the game.
Give it some time. This bullshit will die...
So long as Yoshida keeps that NFT garbage away from FFXIV, I'm good.
What is truly odd about this is that the cheaper one has an NFT certificate of authenticity. But that can't be traded or sold. The more expensive one has that same certificate with the same restrictions and an NFT of the statue. So what exactly is the point of the cheaper version's NFT?
Also super ironic that they use the most anti-capitalist Final Fantasy game to hawk this
I don't get it.
Aren't nft's supposed to be unique to each person?
Everyone gets the same figurine and game in the end, so your code is unique?
Also with how horrible their figurines have been lately i'm surprised people would still buy them ^^"
They should be ashamed of themselves. If NFTs ever come to XIV I'd quit overnight.
I thought that they said they wouldn't do this? Doesn't really make me happy, I've heard NFTs are bad for the environment.
Literally glorified cd-key.
I came 'round to loving XII many, many years later (like two years ago). After XIII's combat and XV's overall terribleness I tried it again and the sense of exploration, discovering hidden quests or seeing the world change over time is great.
Wouldn't mind a gambit system in XIV, now that I think about it. lol
A company uses one of its best/most popular products to make more money. A company is in the business of making money. SE is better than most as they are actually passionate about making good video games. Most NA companies just dive straight for your wallet while producing absolute drivel. The best part is people love to buy drivel! Everyone wins?
So what does this mean?
