So like in real life you can't get a house in FFXIV but FFXIV isn't real life and there is an obvious solution IT'S.....I-I-Instanced housing..its instance housing, I mean what did you expect?
So I'm going to talk about the pros the cons and what to do with the current system BUT FIRST SOME CAVEATS: I don't know how much time this would take, how much it would cost and what the servers are built like.(the servers could be held together by gummy bears and hopes and dreams for all I know.)
The first and most obvious pro is you can really lean into some of the beautiful zones within FFXIV for example a Yurt in the Azim Steppes, a pirate ship of the Coast of Limsa, an Ishgardian manner, A Garlean Bunker hidden within Garlamald and Amelience's house (She's my wife now Fourchenault) there 100s of possibilities out there. Obviously, only a few at launch but more wonderful and exciting homes could be added as the patches go on.
Secondly, it's a more scalable and efficient way to do housing, no more having to load a whole ward into memory for one person and if required you can add more capacity in the background without the risk of having half-full wards.
Thirdly Everyone can have a house when they want it.
However, there are a few cons one of them being the loss of community and the"neighbourhood feeling" if you will, you can mitigate that to an extent by having public homes being searchable ala BDO. but I do understand it's not quite the same but alas I do feel the pros outweigh this con.
The other con I see is the loss of people's painstaking work however my solution would be a special type of instanced housing that has a housing plot and maybe a scaled-down version of the current wards using assets from them to keep the look, that allows players to transfer their current homes into.
Lastly, let's say they do this what happens to the current system? on the release of instanced housing, you lock the ability to buy houses in the current system and then monitor how fast people are transferring to the new system with a final shut down a few patches later depending on speed. Doing this will most likely save SE money in the long term but would require short-term investment.

Instancing only provides instances as needed, not static like we have now which is a TON more taxing on the hardware and game. it's a static environment that cannot adjust based on load and need. The entire point of instancing is efficient use of hardware/software. This is nothing new.Quote:

Funny thing is people think server space is infinite and you could just open an instance for everyone at any time. Only a limited number of instances can be opened at a time, after that you get put into a queue to wait for the next available space. Everyone is going to be trying to get to their Island Sanctuary, and most will not be able to access it for days. Ever heard of Raubahn Extreme, where everyone got stuck trying to get into a solo duty at the beginning of Stormblood? It's going to be like that.

The Island Sanctuary isn't really a strong case. It probably has very limited placed items available, and probably no interiors at all. Which is why it can be instanced.
For Housing to really be fixed, harsh rules need to be put into place and enforced.
1. FCs need to start paying a gil tax on their houses, based on the size. They need a minimum membership level of players to maintain the house. Remove the FC Private Rooms entirely.
2. Personal Housing needs to be account-based and limited to one per DC at most. You pick one Living Space to use, either a House or an Apartment.
Part of the problem is the fact people can have 8 characters per world. There are 8 worlds on Crystal. That's 64 characters. FC Private Rooms are instanced, I believe, because you can have around 500 rooms per FC. So one player can feasibly have multiple apartments and private rooms, with at least 8 houses. They can have 8 FC houses as well, if they make an FC on each world and fill it with all their alts on that world.
Instead it needs to be cut back harshly. One Apartment or House per account. Which would likely take strain off the servers.
Of course, you'll also have people raising a fit about this, because they want multiple houses to decorate and design. But frankly, it's something that needs to be done. -

Thought island was going to have an entirely separate system to current housing? As for fix, we kinda already have a base for personal housing they just need to greatly improve apartments. Upgradable to med or large, outdoor furniture usable indoors, thats really all apartments need to make for decent private homes.

One player is limited to, 1 house, 1 apt, and 1 FC room, to hae multiple rooms i need to level up alts. I rather them just let me make 5 additional room in my fc home rather then level an entirely different character just to make another room.
