Glamour Dresser for our Houses

Title says it all, we all usually go to an inn if we want to access the glamour dresser, so how about make it as a housing item? There can be multiple variants too.

Glamour Dresser (one we see at the inn) - 5,000 Gil buyable from housing agents under Storage category (e.g. where you can buy dressers, cabinets)

Gillionaires Glamour Dresser - 350,000MGP, decorated in 24-carat gold with a Golden Saucer lighting aesthetic - acts as a light source also, illuminates a small area.

Grand Company Glamour Dresser - 3 glamour dressers, 1 for each grand company (Maelstrom, Twin Adder, Immortal Flames) - decorated to match each GC. - 25,000 Company Seals of respective GC.

Scion's Glamour Dresser - Designed by Tataru herself, craftable - one such material needed is a rare ore from Kumbhiraskin map portals - Talonite (new material added to game).

There's some mess in the code that makes it so if someone else moves the dresser while you're using it, it can literally crash the server. That's the explanation as to why we won't have one.

That said, I don't see why they can't just stick a door in the house where you go to some kind of glam room that is personally instanced, like an inn room.

Wonder how easy it is to apply a solution to this? Hmm.
Though I don't know how easy it is to code, but could perhaps run a "In Use" check.
So, if I use glamour dresser or sitting on a chair or bench, it would mean the object is "In Use".
If I then go to housing menu to move stuff around, the items being "In Use" would show up as red in the list and made uninteractable when moving items around, so even if I do click the glamour dresser nothing would happen.
Though this solution sounds simple enough, wonder how much spaghetti code would need to be unraveled first for it to work.

if it was "easy" we'd have a solution by now. but it's not. so we don't. so just keep on huffing copium til the devs have a solution for us.

There is no easy solution to this with their current technology.

When the initial announcement regarding glamour dressers was made, they told us they would be limited to inn rooms at first but intended to add them as housing furnishings at a future date. A patch or two later they told us that unfortunately they could not get the dresser to work in housing without causing severe server issues and so they would not be able to add it as a furnishing.

This is one of those cases where they did end up overpromising (as opposed to players making something into more than what was stated) despite their sincere desire to add the feature.

Perhaps once all of their other planned infrastructure upgrades are completed they'll give it another try but it definitely won't be any time in the near future.

I'd love to be able to place a squadron room option along with the workshop and FC member rooms on the FC internal door.

A bit harder for personals as they don't have this door - and it's a bit ugly in a small unless you design around it.

So, I am not quite sure how they can handle it for personals. However for FC's the ability for a one-person-only room is there.

This is the main reason that it actualy should be done. Its very likely the same spaghetti that causes a major limit on housing to exist because it makes wards highly inefficient in handling.

In any normal logical system, the dresser itself should be instanced on the client upon usage (the handle itself is just an imaginary object, the physical object is a diffirent one). If then someone moves or deletes it, nothing happens. This shouldnt harm the object limit either. Since even if 400 people are in such room, it surely will make 400 objects if they were all using it, but effectively the major load would be the players themselve and not the extra handling object. And any limit here could simply be handled by a normal player limit.

There is an even more hacky way to do this, and that is to have the dresser always loaded outside the room, and the object players place is just a prop that mimics the dresser. Upon using this fake dresser, the real one gets triggered. Again, if the prop is moved, nothing happens since that prop isnt actualy the one being called for all the events. The prop only allows the user to interact with the dresser from any distance.

People have been asking for this for a decade now, maybe longer :D

People stated the reasons as to why it's not a thing.

But hope dies last, doesn't it? ^^

That makes sense. I wish they'd do something like that, it's already possible with the workshop. Can't move anything in there, but can interact with stuff.

This is one of my biggest gripes about housing. I REALLY wish this was a feature in the system, I get why it's not, I just wish they're explore other options to improve the QOL. Good point, thanks for sharing <3

And you know what is the solution to such problem? "Item's can't be moved while used by a player"

I will always find this weird. Everyone can isearch the same info, we can all pull up retainers that can be storing the same items, but for whatever reason the glamour dresser explodes the server.

The glamour dresser does not use the Retainer systems as neither /isearch nor the Summoning Bell are used to create and manipulate Glamour Plates. Inn rooms are separate instances, where no other player can interact with your glamour dresser. Apartments, FC rooms and houses and individual player housing could have other players interact with the glamour dresser simultaneously. This apparently causes problems.

I expect players would object if every time they went to use the glamour dresser there was a message indicating "The Glamour Dresser is in use by another player at this time" ... especially when I use it and then stand there for 30 minutes trying different outfit combinations. At least you don't have to go to a vendor in a major city every time you want to use a Glamour Plate, like that one game with a 'glamour collections system' requires.

Which still seems odd because the entire fc can be in the instance also using the preview window which can try on/dye all the items. It feels like every functionality separately works fine, but someone specifically thought it was a good idea to have a constant lock on the dresser instead of just calling up the function when clicked and then not caring if the dresser even exists. Maybe someone was just really stubborn about everyone seeing the open/close animation. I thought they also mentioned it having an issue with loading up all the items in the instance, but again, isearch checks all the dresser information and everyone in the instance can already do that at the same time.

(I know they would fix it if it were something simple, it's just one of those issues my brain refuses to accept)
